  1. Hi everyone, I'm posting this for a friend who is planning on building himself a gaming rig. His budget is around 30'000 NOK (we live in Norway). The plan is to have a high-end rig for gaming/VR, the kind that he won't need to worry about upgrading for the foreseeable future. The current list of the parts is here : https://no.pcpartpicker.com/user/jhonnioak/saved/#view=KGgZJx The graphics card here is listed as a 3060 because it's the only one we could find in stock somewhere, but eventually he would like to get a 3080 instead. Overall I like the build, but I'm hesitant about a few components: - PSU : He first wanted to get a Corsair HX1000i, but I thought that for a bit more he could get a Seasonic Prime TX 1000 instead. I think Seasonic is superior when it comes to PSUs, but I might be wrong. Also, I suggested he could downgrade to a 850W PSU but the ones he found costed more than the 1000W. - Mobo : I know nothing about motherboards, so I don't know if that one is a sensible choice or not - CPU : When we tried putting the Ryzen 9 5900X, it said that there would be a BIOS issue with the mobo. Do you think there's a significant performance difference between the 3900X and the 5900X? Is it worth aiming for the 5900X or the 3900X is ok? Otherwise, what do you think about the build in itself? Are there some of the components that could be changed? Thanks in advance for your help!
  2. Technically it's hard to say. Most of the projects that use the computing power provided by F@H and BOINC actually take years to complete, so it's not much a question of "Was it useful or not?" but rather "Did it accelerate the research or not?". If hundreds or thousands of home computer can contribute to shorten the research time by a few months or years (optimistically), that's more time that the researchers can spend on other projects. And to me that's worth it.
  3. I sure hope you have the "The great suspender" extension installed. You wouldn't have any problems with RAM if you used it. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/the-great-suspender/klbibkeccnjlkjkiokjodocebajanakg?hl=en
  4. Well the markets seem to be dropping in the last few days, so I don't think it will go up in at least a few weeks.
  5. Yeah that was a few weeks ago, I retested today and I only get around 2-3$.
  6. 3-4$ a day with nicehash and my strix 1070, not counting electricity costs etc
  7. It's available on steam too, got it yesterday. I don't know if it's a good game though, it seems weird.
  8. Is it still working? I'm trying to get it but it doesn't seem to work even though I'm in Switzerland.
  9. Love it, it's my first gaming monitor ever (I've only had laptops until then) and I think it's great, the picture quality is good and the 144hz refresh rate is definitely visible in games. Thank you guys for all your suggestions, I guess I'll either use the car or stick with my previous plan.
  10. Hey guys! So in a month I'm moving out of my current place, so I need to move my desktop from the current house to the new apartment. My built is as follows : https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Nashiwa/saved/tfZ8dC What would be the safest way to move it? I have access to either a car or public transportation, and what I was planning to do was unplug the graphics card, then put the case in a luggage and wrap it in clothes, then take the bus to the new place. For the monitor I can simply put it back in its box and move it by car, it has less moving parts so there should be less problems. I know I should probably remove the heat sink too, but I'm too lazy to buy and reapply some thermal paste.
  11. Well no wonder...if you want your boot time to be faster then your OS should be on the SSD.
  12. Looks good to me. 750W PSU might be a bit overkill though.
  13. Looks pretty good, I'm not really up to date with the Gen7 Intel stuff so I'll let other give their input on the mobo and cpu. But the rest seems fine to me.
