  1. So as an update I suppose, I did snag a Gigabyte b450 Aorus M micro atx board with a 20% discount off Amazon over the MSI board I was originally considering since this one has all the stuff I'm looking for, should be here on the weekend. Will probably do a build log in the appropriate sub forum here going forward.
  2. This seems pretty solid, I built a pc for a friend on this board not that long ago and he's had no issues thus far. The most want more than need thing in here is the ram, part of me doesn't feel right not populating all four slots. I have mass storage that will migrate from my current pc to this build so the ssd is just there for Windows and a few other things. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/X2DgFg
  3. Yeah, scratch that. Mobo seems to be donzo for good at this point, no video from three different cards in either slot. Oh well, I was expecting to replace it anyways.
  4. That could be worth a shot, even if it's just a temporary thing, I did look up the board online and it's not too outside the budget either so I could get everything else in a few months, make sure all the new stuff works on it and see what I think before I commit to it. The slot seems like a 4x.
  5. As a side note kinda thing. I have an Asus prime x570-p that half works. The pcie 16x doesn't work, but the rest of it seems fine, is there any kind of fix for that? Would save me needing a new board.
  6. That won't work for me, I have a dog that loves shoving his nose in places he shouldn't. The case doesn't have great airflow up front but the top is almost nothing but grill and I could get away with tossing an intake or two there instead.
  7. Fortunately I just have the ibp case, I got a great kb and a decent mouse I've been running for a bit, I stick to 1080 for output generally, more of just a personal choice since higher output monitors cost a penny for me, and the budget to get this going is quite tight right now.
  8. Got the case, cpu, psu, cooler, and a hdd for mass storage Shy on ram, os drive, mobo, and probably need some case fans As for gpu, this 1050 is long overdue for retirement, but I plan on running it till at least the end of the year. I was eyeing either 5600 or a 5700, maybe a 2060 or 3060.
  9. Oh for sure, it's just low on my priorities, that and a part of me wants to see what happens once Arc starts hitting shelves. But Ark is such a hog, I wouldn't play it if I didn't otherwise enjoy it enough to put up with the "performance" I already get in it lol.
  10. Budget (including currency): $400-$600 (this is firm) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games ). No Man's Sky, Ark: Survival Evolved, Minecraft, BeamNG.Drive in mixed medium settings Programs ). GIMP, Mixcraft 9 RS Primary workload ). music/sfx creation, streaming, game development Other details Don't need new peripherals or monitors fortunately. The Hardware I have already AMD Ryzen 5 3600 cpu, an iBuyPower case and 600watt psu I'm reusing, a Gigabyte GTX1050 (may update that, but at a later date) A Cooler Master tower cooler (I've had it for some time packed away, so I don't recall the exact model.) Current system I'm trying to upgrade from A lightly upgraded HP Z240 workstation, due to some design choices, I can't really upgrade it further and I want to leave this system fully intact to use as a media/game server and a back up pc. I'm largely looking for advice on some good solid parts I can get new over the next several months, not looking for bleeding edge stuff, but some nice features would be...well, nice. I am basing this build around the cpu and case.
  11. I had noticed after the fact but was busy at the time, feel a bit like a rube for missing the pins.
  12. I had managed to resolve it, discovered the motherboard was doa and it was replaced, the pc in question is back with it's owner in working order.
  13. A friend of mine brought an Ibuypower pc to me almost a month ago that had decided to not function ( I have no info outside of that ) It wouldn't even post though it seemed to be getting power to the old board, ram, fans, and some of the rgb and figured the motherboard somehow ate it. He got a new one (MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max) but it still did nothing even after a bios update. We figured that if the motherboard had fried, it must've taken the cpu out with it, so he got a new cpu (Ryzen 5 5500) and I took some known working ram out of my current pc and replaced the power supply with one I knew was good and still nothing. There are four diagnostic led's near the 24 pin connector and the cpu remains lit from the moment power is turned on. I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I've basically built up a whole new pc at this rate, and I am lost as to what the problem could be. If anyone has had this issue, I could really use some help.
  14. Almost forgot about this thread. I have in fact updated the psu to evga 650 gs a few weeks ago and even have the memory up to 16gb and added a 1tb mech drive, can't close the side panel right now but I'm not to bothered by that, better than turning the old psu in a 4th of July show.
  15. "How to turn your Dell into a gaming rig!" and "101 other uses for your gaming Dell after it suffers a rapid heat death!"
  16. Never had the money fully enjoy a new AAA maxed out game, yes, my current setup is the most capable one I've had yet, but I'm not looking to spend nearly the whole cost of my pc or more on just a gpu, I don't have the money to do that, yeah, I could save up, but then I'd still need all the other bits, I'm not waiting months to play Black Mesa's Xen after waiting this long already just for fps over 40-50 when I could just nudge a few settings for things I don't care about and get nice smoothness 95% of the time. So for me, consoles are a more cost effective way to play new games, but since there are very few modern titles I want to actually play on ANY platform, my pc is plenty capable. I'd say exclusives but since Halo Reach and eventually Halo 2 Anniversary are coming to Steam, that argument for me is now null.
  17. We finally got a pic of Mistral with his ears perked, he hasn't grown much bigger and will probably stay the size he is now.
  18. I run all games at 1080p (native res) and tweak settings from there, though most of my AAA library isn't all that new. NMS runs on a med-low mix though from what I understand that game has some performance issues in the first place even on consoles so I typically get 35 to 80 fps. Skyrim I do mixed high-med with med-high LOD settings and I get a buttery 60 with a drop of three or four frames once in a while though I can still get playable fps in most areas on ultra. BeamNG.Drive isn't all that new or even full release but it is very cpu heavy, I can usually spawn four cars at once, seven or more cars tank the fps though. Fallout 4 is ify, weird performance, sometimes it's a smooth 60 and then I go to Diamond City and see drops in the 10's Fallout 3 and NV default to ultra and I haven't seen any performance issues. ES Oblivion also defaults to ultra and is the same story as Fallout 3/NV. Black Mesa (Half-Life's unofficial remaster) can get intense in some spots but it's a Source engine game so it'll "run" on a lot of hardware though with tweaking, I've got most of the settings maxed except for dynamic shadows and water reflections both on med with and average fps of 50-60.
  19. I'm rocking an almost identical system (half the ram) and I have had a blast with most games. I have a very light oc of 1550mhz on my 1050 and it's trucking along nicely, I imagine with a beefier psu and better case exhaust fan, I'd be willing to push it higher.
  20. Known brand, got Xbox as kid for Christmas 03 or 04, got a 360 in 08, and got a XB1 after they stopped the Kinect forced bundle, so I know what to expect from them more or less. Doesn't mean I don't use other platforms, just have a bit of an experience bias with the Xbox when it comes to console though my PS4 just collects dust since we rarely use it.
  21. 2x N64's 1x PS1 1x PS2 1x red ringed Xbox 360 1x working Xbox 360 s 1x Gamboy Advance SP 1x Gameboy color 2x 1st gen Xbox one's (power bricks failed) 1x PS4 that's been sitting in a tote for two years now (Not last gen, but is my least used system) 1x 3DS XL 2x Wii's (one has a bad disk drive) 1x Wii U
  22. Rumble Racing? Only Ps2 racing game that I can remember that matches, but it's been over ten years since I last played that.
  23. Got my first mechanical keyboard a short time ago, and it feels so nice to type with, being budget oriented I bought a Blackweb (Walmart brand) one since the Corsair I had been looking at was to expensive. It's not rgb, but does have colored back lighting with three brightness levels and a handful of lighting modes. I had to google more info about it (after I already bought it) and learned that it has Outemu Blue key switches that I assume are budget versions of Cherry MX blue's. I know there are probably better options, but compared to thrift store oem ps2 rubber dome keyboards i'm used to, this thing is amazing.
  24. I have a small lcd tv as a monitor at the moment, though it does do 1080p, it only has one hdmi port and I use an xbox one to play co-op over xblive with my gf but I don't want to kill the port constantly plugging and unplugging my pc/xbox. What I'm looking for. must support at least 1080p no more than $100usd would prefer built in audio would prefer two hdmi ports
  25. Ok cool, I mentioned the proprietary connectors thing due to my old Dell Optiplex 780 tower using some kind of nonstandard connection that resembled an eIDE type thing so I'm always over cautious about stuff like that. Definitely a better choice, the switch that comes attached to the tower is meh at best, and the green/orange bi-color led is dated. Seems fitting, my dx5150 was an Athlon64 system, so I might take this as an idea when I can work on this project again...
