Reason I don't even care to give people in my RL tech advice is, that they always proceed to run into some store and get talked down to buy something more expensive anyways.

Example rn:

Friend wants to buy an av-receiver, asks me if this 500€ Denon is any good. I tell her sure, but mine just cost 250€ and can also do everything I want.

Couple weeks later she comes up, telling me she bought a Denon. But the 1400€ one, to be more future proof.

Okay, then why ask me in the first place?

yea and they will be like but the guy at the store said...

YEA BUT THE GUY AT THE STORE WANTS YOUR MONEY ffs is it too hard to understand

Because the guy behind the counter, that is probably getting a percent of what he is selling HAS to know more.

    RIGHT!?

I mean, this example didn't sacrifice any quality or performance. But people often even buy something worse for more money.

Luckily at least my GF trusts me and buys (let's me buy her...) the stuff I tell her.

A lot of people buy too high end stuff that they don't really need (totally not me in some areas :D).

TBH I think the problem is that people think that the seller must know a lot about the given subject so they tend to be swayed by them

That one the Atmos receivers that probably does 7+ channels?

Poor thing will probably be underutilized for the most part.

Yeah, the 4400H. I wonder in how many year, if ever, more than 5.0 will be used.

I tend to overpower too but I'm also the one doing research about given subject :P

I hope they have some good speakers to pair with that receiver.
