  1. Any guesses/links to how much difference dual channel makes on AM4? If I go 2x16GB then I'll max out at 64GB with 4 slots which I'm concerned won't be enough long term. Cheers for the PCIe gen 4 explanation that helps a lot - I'd just assumed it was the 4th revision of that product not the PCIe standard .
  2. Budget (including currency): $1100+ AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primarily a work machine for data analytics. Mainly working on CPU/memory-heavy datasets using Python and various desktop applications: Chrome, PowerBI, way too many excel sheets open at once Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm working from home like many of you and my 4770k system is starting to show a bit of age. I was considering getting another 16GB of DDR3 memory to tide me over for another year but as it's almost tax time I can claim significant deductions on home office equipment here in Aus so I figure why not take advantage now while I have the option. Two slightly annoying constraints is that I have to spend at least $1100 before 30 June and each component must be under $300 to take full advantage of the tax deductions. So I'm looking at what I can buy today that will be a good investment long term. My 980ti is going just fine so I'll keep that for now. Does the following plan make sense to anyone else? What would you change? 1. Buy the following mid-June: B550 motherboard ~$200 AUD I'm guessing Corsair 1x32GB 2666MHz DDR4 RAM $245.0 Das Keyboard DK4 Ultimate $289 Keyboard recommendations welcome, I'd like to replace my current Cherry blue switch Razer with something with browns I can take to the office later in the year. (I know the link shows blues) One of these NVME drives $255 If someone can explain if this Corsair one that's listed here is actually that much better than the cheaper M.2 offerings I'd really appreciate that. ???? $100 New case/power supply? Increase budget for motherboard? New chair? 2. When Zen 3 launches in a few months either: Grab the 3700X or 3900X if the prices come down OR pick up one of the new offerings if they're compelling value. AND Throw in another 32GB stick leaving myself 2 slots if I need an upgrade over the life of that b550 board. Clearly it's unfortunate to buy all that hardware just to have it sit around until Zen 3 launches but the tax incentives are so big that it seems like the best option. I was considering getting a 3300X in the meantime but I know I'll want something better in 6 months and I'd rather not deal with trying to flip it later. Also X570 isn't a great option since I can't get a board with WiFi under $300. Thanks all
  3. The Nascita Mouse looks great
  4. Google made a blog post today explaining their internal process for dealing with US search warrents. They also updated their transparency report. http://googleblog.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/transparency-report-requests-for-user.html Cool little video in my opinion. Good to see they want to explain this and be more transparent but there has to be stuff they're still not saying.
  5. I think you need something to do while you wait for people to call in about the topic at hand, on radio stations they play music, I think you guys need something similarly mundane to do while you wait.
  6. OK, so I just installed my new motherboard and was planning on doing a complete re-install of my C:/ drive and my RAID0 array so I backed everything up onto my 1TB storage drive yesterday. I don't have an optical drive in the system so I made myself a bootable USB drive with the windows 7 iso on it. Everything seemed to go fine, however after I got to the 'Where do you want to install windows?' screen and formatted the drive I was greeted with the following message: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20170573/Photo_00007.jpg If you can't read it, it says that the "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information." So, my question is, what can I do to install windows on this drive? Does anyone know if it is a problem with the .iso or with the drive etc etc. I do have a windows cd somewhere and if I really must I can always go pick up an optical drive for $20. Any help much appreciated.

  8. Can you run multiple instances of RAID on 'modern' motherboards? I don't have enough cash for a CPU and mobo upgrade yet.
  9. About to do a reasonably large storage upgrade on my PC. My current set up is: 1 x 60GB Intel SSD for boot 2 x 360GB 2.5" WD Black HDDs in RAID 0 (it's was the fastest option for the lowest price when I got them, don't hate :P) 1 x 1TB WD Green HDD for general storage I like having several drives available with at different speeds and capacities so that I can arrange my files myself so I'm thinking of something along the lines of: 1 x 120GB SSD for a boot drive, I don't put much on my C:/ drive but 60GB was cutting it a bit too close. existing 1 x 60GB for things I use all the time (such as a particular game I play far too much of) existing 2 x 360GB 2.5" WD Black HDDs in RAID 0 for games, applications etc. 2 x 3TB WD Green HDDs in RAID 1 for storage and backups with the RAID 1 for data security Only problem with this is that without upgrading my motherboard, I don't have enough SATA ports (only have 4) for all of those drives. So... my primary question is, can you set up multiple RAID arrays on one motherboard/RAID card without loosing any performance? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what RAID card I should be looking at for that many drives?
  10. Massive flooding in Brisbane, Australia the week before I moved here. 1 and a half years later there was another flood that shut down the CBD for a few days.
  11. Something about drivers, where to find them ect, I'm not sure if it really fits with the TechQuickie style but I've had so many people ask me about updates and such.
  12. I tried Bitcoin Mining for a while a couple weeks ago on my 660ti (because I don't pay for my electricity lol) and to be perfectly honest it wasn't worth it. I made 0.001 bitcoins in just over a week, running GUIminer overnights and during the day. As for mining on your laptop(s), mining in the CPU is literally useless but it's up to you. As mentioned in the first comment use GUIminer if you want a simple interface and them see how you go.
  13. I'm sure it's not really as complicated as I'm thinking it may be but where did you learn to to this? Are there any guides you followed etc?
  14. 840 gets my vote, very reliable drive.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion, found an old mouse pad and it made some difference.
  16. Yeah I've been in and out the settings several times.
  17. Any suggestions for specific models or brands?
  18. I didn't even think of mumble when I chose switches, the noise doesn't bother me at all irl. I'll look into the O-rings, anyone have any microphone-related suggestions that may help?
  19. Really enjoying my Razer Blackwidow but I was wondering if there was a decent way to quieten the switches without losing the tactile feel of the blue switches. The reason I'm asking is that when I'm in mumble and have voice activation on, there is no way I can balance it to where people can't hear my keyboard but can hear me (inb4 talk louder). If anyone else has had this issue and you've fixed it another way, please let me know. Thanks :D
