  1. Yes. But more important than that I think is to have a backup & restore plan. Then whatever the plan is, test the plan to be sure the restores actually work.
  2. Edit: Including LinusTech tag since my question is realy toward him rather than another forum user. Thanks. @LinusTech I don't have a handicap hearing. My vision, yes. But I have excellent hearing, for a 45 yr old. ha. Really? no one else has trouble hearing Luke/Slick sometimes? Most professional setups mic the individuals seperately to control the mix. But like I said in my previous posting, I'm not a audio video expert. My question is, rather than me set up specialized equalizer for this, can LMG fix it on their end? I mean, I am 45 and a bit lazy since I just click and play. btw, hello Mesa. I moved a years ago from Flagstaff to Louisiana. Arizona trails in North Phoenix (Table Mesa area) and Flagstaff I miss often. Thanks.
  3. Lukes low voice rarely picks up well on the mics. Linus I hear clearly. But everytime Luke speaks, his voice is much lower, and just never picks up on the mic very well. So... I turn up volume to understand and hear Luke... then Linus voice is like YELLING at me. It has been this way since Luke first was introduced on camera in a speaking role (I think that was way back years ago in Linus home). I'm not into Audio Video, but could Luke possible get a mic seperate from Linus and then adjust his voice so we can hear him? This seems like something that should have been discussed already and maybe it has. But I still can't hear Luke. Thanks

  5. I want to blame Berkel for everything negative at LMG. I am convinced that his tank tops and overly tight tshirts are the cause of all this.
  6. I have a computer with two ports. One of them was built into the mobo. But I initially had trouble configuring it to be recognized at startup (it is a RHEL linux server). So I installed an Intel PCI NIC which worked great. I eventually got the onboard mobo port to work also. Now I've got two ports and if both are connected to the router then they each get a different DHCP assigned internal IP address from the router. as to the advantages of what I described, I have no idea other than failover... I can access the server from either of the two IPs.
  7. Hello You've setup FileZilla ftp to accept connections on a specific port#. Default is port 21. You've setup your router to direct the incoming FTP requests to the correct internal IP and Port of the FileZilla FTP server? You've setup the firewall(s) to allow the incoming FTP connections? As a start, in a browser window try an anonymous connection to the ftp server to see what you get ftp://wan_ip_address:port
  8. I answered "yes", truthfully, to each question. My desk faces a wall with juliet doors on a wall 45degrees to the desk. I hope my voting will help towards your computer/window research.
  9. I don't consider Apple "the best", but I did purchase one of their laptops in 2009 and I've been very happy with that purchase. My first apple product that I purchased was a max spec'd 2009 17" Macbook Pro. I didn't even have an iPod. My decision to select the Apple laptop over other brands of laptop was because I had always been curious/intrigued by Apple's computers and OS. I'm currently 45 yrs old and I've worked in IT all of my adult life. In other words it was not "simplicity" that attracted me to buy from Apple. I remember when I was a teenager seeing the Apple retail stores in our local mall in the 80s. The early Apple computers (ie Macintosh circa 1984) with their mouse and graphical UI really impressed me as a kid. I made my decision to buy an Apple laptop because of fascination and because of those fond memories. I was fascinated and desired for something new (new to me). The 2009 MBP was not a slouch compared to other laptops of it's day. But it was not an inexpensive purchase. The 8GB RAM from Apple in mid 2009 was an additional $1000 option. So I spent a pretty penny on that laptop when I purchased it. Would I buy another Apple computer today? Nah. Nope. I'm no longer intrigued by their products. My 2009 MBP is still working great and I'm using it this very moment and it has been incredibly reliable over the last 5+ yrs. But I would not consider Macbook Pro to be a "Professional grade" laptop as it's name suggests. "Professional", IMO would be a mobile workstation with mobile Quadro that can accommodate more RAM and be more flexible with internal storage expansion. Honestly the nicest two things I've to say about my 2009 MBP has been it's reliability and that has a *nix OS. I think I've been somewhat lucky regarding the reliability I've had with it. My neice bought a 2009 15" mbp laptop same time I did and hers is basically trashed. But she is not very careful with her treatment of computers so maybe that accounts for it's condition.
  10. I think there will soon be (soon = few months?) very interesting workstations coming out. Lenovo for example will be releasing a few workstations using Intel's first mobile Xeon CPUs. PCIe SSD (fast!). 64GB Ram! $1599USD entry price. Quadro workstation graphics perhaps with Maxwell architecture, which would be a first in a mobile quadro (all mobile quadro is currently keplar). http://www.anandtech.com/show/9503/lenovo-launches-new-p50-and-p70-mobile-workstations-with-first-mobile-xeon-chips Dell's successor to the m4800 and m6800 is overdue and will probably be released soon too. I'm expecting some cool tech from them in the m6900 (or whatever Dell names it). Anyway, I'm waiting for the Dell. Desktop will always outperform a mobile workstation, but for me and my needs (I travel alot) a mobile workstation is necessary.
  11. Windows Battery Charger Icon in the system tray will say "% available; plugged in, charging"... or if at full charge it says "fully charged" OS X Battery Charger Icon will say "% remaining; plugged in, charging"... or if at fully charge it says "plugged in, not charging". I don't know if it is a hardware thing or a software controlled thing or what, but it does stop charging and begin charging automatically as needed. The question I have is about Android phones. WHen my phones are fully charged I get a notification that says to please disconnect cable. Which makes me think perhaps it is bad to keep some smartphones connected after being fully charged.

    VPN

Regarding static external IP at your home, you could either - remember your current external IP address as it probably doesn't change alot (but they do change sometimes, mostly though if your modem reboots). - setup a script on one of your home computers to check the external IP address every once in awhile, and email you when it changes telling you the new ip address - register with a DNS name.. Similar to 2nd option except instead of a script emailing you of the new IP address a script notifies the DNS registry of the change and they instantly make your registered DNS point to the new IP. This way you only need to remember your URL since it always will point to the most current IP address. *there might be other ideas I've not thought of. The third option is maybe the best, in my opinion. Regarding setting up a VPN connection to your home. I use the VPN server software that came pre-installed on my Asus router. It was very easy to setup in that I basically just told it a username and password for the VPN. Then when I want to connect to my home network remotely I use Windows own VPN client to connect my home IP/DNS URL and after supplying the userid and pwd it is as though I were at home on the LAN.
  13. I especially was amused (also a bit embarrassed and shamed) to discover the moderators moved this thread from General to off-topic. Doh.
  14. ultimate solution? We post where we ought. But perhaps we shouldn't reply to threads that are made into incorrect forums, in a way to discourage it? I'm starting to sound like a tyrant. Maybe delay replying to such posts until they are relocated to the correct forum?
