  1. It may not have hurt Ryan but it most probably hurt PcPer. The amount of Adored fan's (I am one and still subscribe and watch his videos and agree with most things he says) saying praises to adored and screws to PcPer makes this whole thing feel overblown and a decent size hit to PcPer. I really feel Adored did alot of damage without giving them the benefit of the doubt and instead over dramatized it. PcPer is still doing fine just maybe not what they could have been or are doing.
  2. Honestly I feel Adored came down a little to hard and a bit unreasonable. I've never felt like Ryan was a total Intel shill. Maybe he slightly leaned that way but marginally so. The podcasts he always gave plenty of time to talk about AMD in positive light for example and gave good fair points. I'm a current AMD fanboy who's been one since well before Zen's release saying this(even though there shouldn't exist fanboys and everyone should be objective but with Intel's crap lately I really can't move to the middle). Plus they now have this on all of their reviews since the overblown Adored callout. He/they tried to do right. BTW can we just acknowledge the fact no-one else does this ^
  3. Wow very surprising to me as I am a patreon supporter and weekly watcher of theirs. I always preferred the weekly podcast when Ryan was present. PcPer I like for its in depthness on things though PcPer lacks a lot of fun character. They're great for facts just not entertainment. Probably why their growth has been very slow compared to most. I feel this will only hinder them. I may just be leaving them as a subscriber even though I like Josh cause time is important and why watch something you don't fully enjoy and when there is better content elsewhere. I'll probably still do the occasional check-ins just out of curiosity.
  4. So this plus hitting 5ghz and boom! AMD is in in parity with Intel. That seems right to me but I could be wrong. Either way cool on them! I will probably hold out for Zen3 or Zen4 at 5nm as I can be happy with my 2700x for a long time.
  5. Literally what I said in my head when I read the title. They finally listened.
  6. Holy cow yes!!! I'm actually currently updating an existing Android app howbeit with an Intel CPU but nice to know my main rig at home which is a Ryzen 2700x can now run it. Too bad the FX cpu's never got the support back when I needed it. This was my biggest concern when updating to another AMD cpu again.
  7. It's like Vador but instead of getting a cool dark outfit it gets a janky a$$ nerdgasm clashy outfit. It's a different kind of scary.
  8. That really depends on who has the most shares so not always the case. If a CEO has a majority stake he will have more power over company directions.
  9. This reminds me of micro-processor fabing. If the processor isn't 100% functional still keep it but sell it as a lower end part. Indeed brilliant and doesn't bother me at all as long as there isn't a noticeable difference in quality for parts made specifically to be low end and those that were highend.
  10. I think I remember that back when I gave an attempt to learn it. Sad it hasn't improved. Also if Amazon is selling an engine very similar to CryEngine that can't be good for Crytek cause of more competition and people should probably trust the stability of Amazon if they want the technology that an engine like CryEngine/Lumberyard can provide. I assume they did the sale cause they needed the cash which is understandable but either they need to really compete and make the engine better/easier to develop for than Lumberyad and other engines or just work on making excellent games as their primary concern. Not sure its smart for them to split focus atleast not until they are out of the woods so to speak.
  11. Good for us dabblers I guess. Isn't cryengine really hard to develop in? I mean it uses C++. And how does this compare with Lumberyard? Or does Amazon pay cryengine like a normal customer and then redistribute their version of the engine with their own terms and fees which means it can't be cheaper. Just need Crytek to release some new games. Probably would help them out alot financially though don't see how they could continue Crysis where it left off. Maybe a prequel or some other new IP. Hunt looks good may get that and support them. EDIT: This is actually worse for small developers not good.My bad.
  12. Oh good! Glad to see WinForms is staying alive. Currently writing a new program in WinForms (I know 2018!) cause my boss, who is a software developer, doesn't see the need to go WPF or UWP. Cause WinForms "works well, has worked well for years, and we don't have time to change our process." That said, for what we need it for which is internal business, our budget, developer size, and time to delivery, it is fast to implement(which is important cause it is only us two), does the job, and looks and performs okay. So he does have a point and makes it hard to argue against though it does pain me somewhat. We'll definitely have to be looking at porting it over to .NET Core 3.0 when that comes out and is stable.
  13. Its more for the new kids on the block to be aware of not to trust Task Manager and some cool new little details. Heck I was even doing it last night comparing with a new computer I built with an old though in the back of my mind I was questioning the metrics. I've been building computers for years. Plus this seems to be more new proof to not trust Task Manager. Never heard of Spectre/Meltdown patches aiding the fault. I thought Linux didn't have such a problem before this. Also I like what one guy said in Extreme's thread.
  14. According to a Netflix Senior performance architect, Brandon Gregg, the OS CPU utilization reporting is WRONG and is getting worse. There was a Lightning Talk video posted by Opensource.com's youtube channel of Brandon speaking about this topic at the 2018 Southern CA. Linux Expo(SCALE). Video was posted in April but brought further attention by ExtremeTech. (I looked hard for an earlier post). Why would this matter for Netflix? Well Netflix uses it for its to adjust video quality automatically "auto scaling rules". As pointed by ExtremeTech not only has this been inaccurate already due Hyper-Threading and SMT which is the case for Windows and Linux (and more than likely Mac OS also), but is further exacerbated by recent security flaws and their respective fixes. What are these security flaws? Well if you guessed Spectre & Meltdown you are correct! The KPTI(Kernel Page-Table Isolation) patches for these renowned security flaws causes TLB(Translation Lookaside Buffer) flushes which causes stall cycles in the CPU. The stall cycles don't get accounted for when reporting CPU utilization which causes the OS performance metric to be inaccurate, and can show utilization that is way more than it really is. To put it another way software threads may stall to wait for external resources (eg. memory) thus not giving anymore work to the processor. The kernel only measures the time when the thread begins utilization and when the thread completely stops. It assumes the CPU is used the entire time and doesn't take into account if is stalled or not. He gave two examples, one that seems to be only hypothetical and one that is real case using MySQL. The images bellow both show what would be reported and what is actual. Hypothetical: Reported - https://imgur.com/a/ss2NDyf Actual - https://imgur.com/a/Bjgwl6v MySQL: https://imgur.com/a/KWQ8DST This piece may be a bit interesting. 15. Guess I know I'm an AMD fanboy when I'm sad that AMD's competition is getting their engineers. I remember being so excited when Jim came to AMD cause I knew how good Apples processors were/are. But now I'm worried Intel is just going to copy AMD architecture (which would be smart cause of yields and performance gains) and take all the undeserving bushiness back. Like AMD really struggled those 4 years of making a processor and now Intel is in some hot water but nothing like where AMD was and now is just going to copy and throw money at the problem. Like I feel AMD has always been miss treated by intel and consumers and that Intel is just the giant that is now waking ready to flick the annoying fly of their shoulders. AMD clearly deserves alot of credit and I want them to get as much of it as possible as long as possible cause I feel they deserve it. It like David vs Goliath and you want the young humble boy to win. Yes competition is good and I need to suck it up and I don't want Intel not to succeeded, buuuut this still makes me a bit sad. Forgive me.
  16. So what. AMD has a right to express a technology they developed. IT'S COMPETITION. The reason they did this was to figuratively put their hands up and say "Hey look at us. We built this thing called free sync similar to Gsync but its open so other companies can take advantage. You don't just need to buy Nvidia to get adaptive sync. You can buy our cards and get adaptive sync also and save some money while you're are at it." Of course that isn't exactly what they said but it is what more thank likely their thought process was and I don't see anything wrong with that. Nvidia has such a bigger voice as it is with mainstream gamers that its more than okay for AMD to go on a heavy(nah, rather light if you ask me) marketing campaign to dieter gamers from buying Nvidia cards for adaptive sync by bringing awareness that they have a solution also.
  17. May I just add this. Pay attention to the 33 second mark. Gold
  18. Okay thanks kind sir. I'll leave it to the mods to decide to remove. In the meantime if you have a suggestion on Title change PM to let me know. Hard to please people on this Forum.
  19. Could you link that cause I looked really hard for a previous post. Also this is contradicting that an 8core would first come to 9th gen so this seems news worthy.
  20. With the on going pressure of AMD's Zen based processors it looks as if Intel has decided to bring an 8 core CPU to the mainstream market. This was originally posted by a redditor (thanks ExtremeTech for further bringing attention) which gives no link to where he got the screenshots so the usually advice of "take it with a grain of salt" applies. I however see this as highly possible as Intel does not currently have an 8 core CPU for current gen and really needs something to compete with the Ryzen 7 series of CPUs especially with Zen+ that is soon to released this week. The real question to me is how soon will Intel bring this about. It is believed that it will most likely be release as a Coffee Lake SKU as it is titled "8th gen" and may work on any 300 series boards though extreme tech questions that. I've already pre-ordered the 2700x so this doesn't matter much to me, but should be great for those who decide to holdout as Intel has proven to hold higher performance with the current released 8th gen CPUs which is no doubt aided by the higher clocks Intel can achieve. 21. They sent out emails early this morning saying how to fix and that they would give a $15 dollar credit for who ever has used their oculus since February 1st of this year. Just remoted into my htpc and tried launching the Oculus software. Still had the reported message. Downloaded and launched the repair exe through the link provided in the email, clicked repair, it did its thing for about a minute and wala it works now. Now kicking myself for not touching my oculus all last month. Would of loved that 15 dollar credit.
  22. Seems like Global Foundries anymore just contracts Samsung technology so if Samsung is having delays Global Foundries could very well and most likely be having them also.
  23. Here to sympathize with OP. Sorry people get overly dramatic about formatting on this thread. One thing I find worse then bad formatting. Only one member needs to state it then the mods can take appropriate action if he doesn't correct. Yes though you should follow the guidelines as they are there for the reason. Thanks for updating the news Peace.
