My friend recently got a new laptop and I'm trying to help him fix it as he's having issues with his WiFi network that I cannot solve.
Laptop Model: Asus ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703GE
Router: xFi Advanced Gateway (cgm4140com)
The internet speed (to one particular network) is extremely slow when connected wirelessly, going as low as 0.1 to 0.2 Mbps. Connecting to the same network through an ethernet cable gives me speeds of ~450 Mbps. If I run a network reset, the speed (through the same network, wirelessly) temporarily gives me ~450 Mbps. It will stay this way until the laptop is shut down and powered back on, then we are back to square one with the speed being ~0.2 Mbps through wireless. I have to run a network reset every time I turn on the laptop to be able to have the 450 Mbps through wireless.
I run a speed test through a cellular hotspot rather than the WiFi network, and I get 30 Mbps consistently. Therefore, I assume the problem is with that WiFi network in particular.
I've tried to factory reset, uninstall the Asus bloatware, and many miscellaneous potential solutions that I've found on forums before (I've forgotten which ones I've tried at this point, sorry). Unfortunately, the closest I've gotten to fixing it was the network reset mentioned above.
