  1. actually the strix has better temps and acoustics than the msi. It draws a little bit more power but not too much. source: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/msi_rx_480_and_gtx_1060_gaming_x_review/19
  2. the AF120 are pretty quiet even at full speed and they perform good enough with a custom fan profile.
  3. check youtube, there are plently of videos for budget gaming pcs . But please, avoid AMD like the plague
  4. at that price range the 1060 3gb should be good enough. There is a chance of a bottleneck, BUT buying an older graphics card would be even worse than that.
  5. did you install the chipset drivers first? make sure all motherboard drivers are installed before the geforce drivers. Remove any old drivers, reboot then begin installing one driver at a time.
  6. the gtx 1060 or the rx 470 seem like the obvious choice here. You could get a few extra dollars by picking a smaller psu, something like 650w will do just fine.
  7. anyone with an older graphics card (like 2 or more generations) should upgrade to pascal. The 1060 is the sweet spot for gaming right now.
  8. uhm, a restaurant? cuda cores= chefs api= waiter mhz= how fast a waiter brings your food vram= cabinets in the kitchen
  9. IMO you should go with something like the zotac gtx 1080 articstrom unless you are doing a custom loop or something like that. The waterblock on the zotac covers the full pcb including the vrms.
  10. My 8800 GT SC says hi. Here's is a picture with the 1060 strix
  11. I bought the 1060 two days ago and it plays everything maxed out. Nvidia gets much better support for games, besides, Vulcan/dx12 are still fairly new. By the time games use Vulcan as a standard you may new a new video card anyway.
  12. Nvidia does improve performance with each driver release. I bet dx12/vulcan performance will improve as well so I say 1060.
  13. You could get a WD enterprise drive, best of both worlds. Ive been using the RE4 for a couple of months, no complains here.
  14. Im about to buy a gtx 1060 for my current rig and I have two options: Gigabyte GTX 1060 G1 gaming or the Asus gtx 1060 Strix. Both are about the same price (the strix is like $10 more), but I read the gigabyte has some issues in OC mode. The strix looks better thats for sure but how about performance and features? also, anyone care to post a picture of the strix card installed?
  15. Really? Am I the only one who noticed that the power cable is disconnected?
  16. K70 RGB Rapidfire seems like the best mechanical keyboard at this time
  17. you could buy a splitter and both fans would run at the same speed no problem, or get a fan controller like the NZXT Grid+.
  18. Specially if you live outside the US or EU. Let me explain... I recently built the computer in my signature, while shopping around I noticed a couple of things: 1) Prices are ridiculously high (not really a surprise but still) 2) Good hardware is somewhat hard to come by (for instance, noctua fans, top tier video cards, phanteks cases, fractal design, etc) I'm in Mexico city, and you would think that being in the biggest city in the country (world?) would make it simple to find decent hardware. That's not the case. Most stores carry a few brands of hardware at a time. A decent Store would sell, corsair, nzxt, asus, gigabyte, but not MSI, EVGA (EVGA is like the unicorn of pc hardware around here), antec and so on. Retailers blame (somewhat) hardware companies for not making distribution agreements with them. Which brings us to the possible reason for this: price. I realize that prices are subject to customs, shipping and the exchange rate. However, some pieces of hardware reach 2x or 3x the retail price of the US. A bronze certified PSU like mine goes for $50 USD, a gold certified of the same wattage is $100 and a platinum certified is $200. So basically 2x the price of last tier. Graphics cards follow the same trend, the cheapest gtx 1080 available goes for $763 USD while newegg has it for $649. Hardware companies dont care/ want to sell their products around here because of costs or because they think no one would buy them. Not even Amazon Mexico offers those products. I lived in the US for a few years so I think I was spoiled by newegg and Frys. Even so, I wish we had a better distribution system, a better customer support and prices. I am willing to pay a little more for a decent card or case, but not over $100 or anything ridiculous like that. Opinions?
  19. unless your case has a different fan hub, the header on the top is the one that should go to your motherboard. The manual says:
  20. Pretty sure you can play gtav at 1080p on medium with that setup. I say get a 6100, a gtx 1060 and 16gb of ram. Then if you need more power you can upgrade to a kaby lake cpu later on.
  21. The nforce series were top of the line back then. Some asus boards were ok too, depending on your cpu and sometimes the revision of your board.
