Thank you everyone for the replies...

Probably won't go the AMD route since I'm already invested in G-Sync...

And I totally get the advice to wait...which I'd have to do anyway if rtx cards are still going to run $1.5k, going to have to stash away a little each month anyway as it's pretty hard to hide four-digit purchases from the wife!

    Thanks again!

Hey guys, more updates for you all =) we started cutting into the core p5 cases today and our idea with this build is to use all of the main features of the core p5 within this TIE fighter PC.

I cut out the back section of the ball also which the cables will be running through and also provides access into the back of the build.

I also cut out the metal bar running across the 4 quarters because I will be installing some metal rods to act as mounting points and to give strength.

Here is the wonderful Thermaltake Core P5 case that I am about to tear apart (sorry Thermaltake). I lines it with painters tape and marked out where i want to cut the motherboard tray out.

The 4 corners of the P5 have braces helping it to keep its strength and shape. I drilled out the rivets and unscrewed them and i will be using these later on.

The motherboard tray if now cut out and ready to be shaped to fit within the ball.

A quick test fit before we start cleaning up those edges

Time to clean up those edges with the file and grinding stone.

We also got to cut out the radiator mounts and clean it all up using the same process as the motherboard tray.

And here is where we are at with the build so far.

I hope you are all enjoying the progress guys =)

So I've recently installed 2 x EVGA 980Ti's into an Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard and the SLI bridge that came with the mobo is one of the flexible type that look awful. Can anyone recommend a nice looking alternative? I'm not sure on compatibility - does any sli bridge work or do you have to be careful in spacing /manufacturer /spec etc?

    Thanks

Actually bud, your going to want to look a little deeper.  The Asus x99 Deluxe does not use a normal SLI bridge spacing due to the configuration of 2-way SLI on that board.  You were absolutely right in that you do need be careful with regards to which SLI bridge you buy.

I have two 980 Ti's as well and when they are installed per Asus' guidance, they are in the 1st PCIe x 16 slot and the 3rd PCIe x 16 slot (numbers 1 and 4 of the blue numbers on the diagram).  This is not normal spacing and a standard 2-way SLI bridge will not work.

Additionally, the configuration I just described is for my 5960x or a 5930k.  If you have a 5820k, you'll actually be using the 1st PCIe x16 slot and the 4th PCIe x16 slot (numbers 1 and 5 of the blue numbers on the diagram).  This will not work with a standard 2-way SLI bridge either.

Thanks for posting this thread rossta (and for your reply done12many2).

Been trying to find an answer to this question for a little while now.  I'm planning a build with the Pro board (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WXDBf7) which has the same Asus-specific slot spacing.  Even called Asus tech support..."just get the 4-way bridge to be sure" was their answer.

I think the Asus bridges are ugly, or at least won't go with my white and black color scheme, so I'll probably go with Nvidia's line of bridges, of which they have 40mm, 60mm, and 80mm variants, which I'll paint to match.

rossta, please let us know how that bridge works out for you.

No problem at all with the one you ordered.  When running 3-Way or greater, SLI requires both.  With two, you only need a single connection to each card.  Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for this.  I've read the Asus guide, and it's a good place to start, but your spreadsheet is great.  Once I get this built it will be awesome to have real-world quantifiable results to compare to.

So i received the EVGA SLI Bridge (Long = 60mm spacing) today and it fits like a charm.. photos below....

hope this info helps someone else in future!

Using the math in this video the 2133 is infinitesimally faster actually. Granted, that is for ddr3 ram, which is I think 32 bit while ddr4 is 64 bit, which might change the math quite a bit... Right? However, if the math is right regardless, you are paying extra for an unnoticable downgrade.
