Dumaurier's Achievements

  1. haha, yeah it did have it's downfalls and was worse when there was a misprint in the magazine so was even worse trying to find where the error was. At a young age though, it was easier than trying to get access to regular cassettes to get the games though :-)
  2. The first computer I remember at home was the family computer, an Acorn Electron, although shortly before that we had a Sinclair ZX 81. It was on the Acorn that I first started basic coding be reading the magazines and typing in the pages of code that where listed for the games. We didn't have "demo" discs back then and it was a way to get free or "shareware" games easily as there wasn't a lot of people we knew at the time that had access to the casettes. After that the first home pc we got was an Olivetti 486 with 4Mb of ram and at the time Windows 3.1 and DOS
  3. I know just where you're coming from. I was pretty much only an FPS guy myself. But slowly got into other games. As has been said, if you have a friend to help push you into other genres, games that may seem boring or not keep you entertained are always more fun if you're playing them with a friend and can have a laugh with and kepe you into the game while playing it
  4. I'm hoping to get 2 new screens to complete my multiple monitor setup. Would also like to switch to an X99 system at some point this year
  5. The GTX 780 is without a doubt the most expensive part of my PC. Was around the £540 mark when I bought it
  6. I've been using the Crosshair V Formula for quite some time now, is a great board and never had any issues with it. The settings to overclock your cpu are very easy to navigate and control through the BIOS, but just make sure you've got your good cooling setup and hope you get lucky on the silicon lottery with your chip. I didn't fare too well and can barely manage a 100Mhz OC on my 8350. That was with the Hyper 212 air cooler though, hopefully when my AIO turns up, I may get an improvement.
  7. Doom the shareware version got me hooked. Even ended up taking the diskettes into the school maths department and playing on the pc's there during the breaks. Actually begged my parents for the Atari Jaguar because it came with Doom lol
  8. I've been using Bitdefender since about 2007 now and I've never had any complaints about it. I'm not a fanboy but think it'll take something great from another option for me to change. That being said, I always look around when my year is nearly up. Never hurts to check around and look for better alternatives
  9. I use Bitdefender. Malwarebytes and the all important common sense
  10. You're in luck. http://a.razorkings.com/ :-)
  11. I'm constantly window shopping, especially now I've set myself a few projects and need to get some extra gear. Although also going a little too optimistic by looking at parts for a new workstation and nas rigs too
  12. omg! don't do it. The graphics quality sucks, the fps is poor and the less said about the AI the better
  13. I am currently using a single monitor, a 27" Asus VE278 but am looking at changing this for 2x24" screens. I take my gaming pretty seriously when I get the chance to play anything and a fast response time and high refresh rate is pretty important to me. So ideally I'm looking for a 1-2ms response time and a 120Hz refresh. However, I also do some photography and as gaming monitors aren't the best for colour reproduction, I'm also looking for a good 24" IPS screen. I at first did consider the Dell Ultrasharp U2414H as it seems to have received some good reviews and feedback, and after watching Linus's review of the BenQ XL2420 I did consider that. My problem is due to work space issues, I need both of the monitors to be attached to a dual monitor arm and not their own stands and it seems the BenQ doesn't have a VESA mount option. My problem is I need the 2 monitors to be pretty much the same size, a fraction difference isn't an issue, but anything too much would just annoy the hell out of my OCD and both need to be vesa mountable. Bezel width/size isn't much of an issue as I will not be using both monitors for gaming. I have seen the Dell on Amazon for around £180, which should leave me around £260 to spend on a gaming monitor if anyone can recommend any that compare well with the BenQ but are VESA mountable. My PC is strong enough to push past the 60 fps mark on most games, and I hate the screen tearing so personally don't want anything less than 120Hz
  14. Ubisoft have finally responded to the mod. "The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we’ve set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game’s visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable." http://watchdogs.ubi.com/watchdogs/en-us/news/index.aspx#
