  1. Hi, We recently switched to a new ISP and I've been experiencing problems with them ever since. Their customer support was useless, so I'm turning to this community for some help. I'm not an IT person, but I know some of the basics. I can't figure out what the issue is and I can only give the symptoms. For starters when we try using our smart tv (it's connected by cat6 cable for internet) and try to watch something on Netflix often there's a message about Netflix being unable to load what I'm trying to access or in the case of YouTube it will say check your connection etc. When that happens there's nothing we can do other than try playing it again and usually after a few tries the internet starts working and we can watch a show. On to the wifi, so basically I get almost the same thing except I have no problem stream stuff with netflix on my desktop. The issue happens when I'm gaming. I play overwatch and I have it setup so I can see the latency during the game. Under normal conditions I'm getting about 60ms, but very often when the game starts to lag for me I see that it spikes upwards to 350ms or more. This happens sporadically and I have no idea how to figure out what's causing this issue. The ISP we switched to is actually using the same exact lines our previous ISP used, we had no issues with the other guys as far as service goes (but the price was too high). The only thing they switched was their own routers, it's still being connected on the same fiberoptic cables as before. Lastly when I'm downloading torrents I've noticed that I could be getting 25mb download speeds one minute then everything just crashes and even though windows is showing that I'm connected to the wifi there's just no download going. After a few seconds it will pick back up again and it does this often. It's always the same cycle in all use cases. It's working fine then we get these spikes for a few seconds that just ruins everything. I haven't timed how often this occurs, but it would seem about every 10-15 min so it's pretty noticeable and annoying. Has anyone had similar experience or knows what I'm talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm running out of options. Thank you in advance everyone.
  2. Here's pics after 2nd Delid attempt. I cleaned the cpu before I could take a pic of how much LM was there, but it looked similar to the IHS. In the 2nd pic I added more LM to both the core and IHS. This actually decreased temps by another 5c, I guess the first application wasn't good enough. I'm now getting 15c decreased temps. also I tightened the clamp more this time to make sure the glue would really get compressed and not leave additional space
  3. yeah, but I want to run my system in near silence. I couldn't do it with the TIM that intel had on there. At least now when I load it with stock settings my fans hardly make a noise.
  4. Yes, I've mentioned this before. I agree with you. I'm looking to get better temps in general so I can run the system more quietly and also see how far I can push it when I'm flexing those benchmark muscles lol. I prefer running it at stock speed most of the time because it literally makes no difference for gaming when it's overclocked. Right now I'm running it at 5.0 @ 1.33v but the fans are running loud so I'll have to start scaling back the volts until I find a sweet spot for noise. Edit: You're totally right about the minor bump in OC. It's just not worth it. Also the temps in my system don't go above low 70s. I've never even seen 80 on max temps. The most it's hit was 73c. The average temp when stress testing is usually 60c with 5.0Ghz and when I hit 5.2GHz the average was 68c with max hitting 73c. I have 2 giant rads to keep everything cool so that's a plus. Now I'm just trying to see how to reduce noise. The delid def helped at least at stock speeds plus it was a fun learning experience.
  5. I can't really do it without the glue, so i guess I'll try to reseal and either apply more pressure after resealing or put less glue.
  6. yeah, i have the same tool kit. I screwed it on until it felt tight, I didn't want to over do it for fear of breaking the chip. I'll try to re-apply some extra LM see if that makes a difference. I'm sure the temps can be much better than this.
  7. i'm also not looking for world records, just want it to run smooth and quiet. My biggest problem was putting the IHS back on top. I'm hitting 65c max with stock speeds right now. I'm concerned about 2 things. Either I didn't put enough LM or I put too much glue and the IHS might be a little too high. What are your thoughts?
  8. thanks for sharing. Mine was a little less liquidy. Wish I took pics of it too. I noticed a slight improvement. Maybe 10c, but I only used it on stock speeds. When I tried to overclock I managed to hit 5.2 @ 1.4v. What where your results like?
  9. I would like to use nail polish to prevent anything from leaking and damaging the cpu, do you have any suggestions on what's good to get? I read somewhere that benzene derivatives in nail polish can harm the cpu, but I have no idea which nail polish is good for this. What did you do to prevent damage in case the LM spills inside the IHS?
  10. what's it like long term when you use lm on the cpu. How often do you have to repaste it?
  11. I recently purchased an i7 8700k knowning the massive amounts of complains from reviewers about the poor quality paste between the cores and IHS. I have my gpu + cpu in a custom loop with 1x 360 rad and 1x 420 rad so plenty of thermal headroom. I have a delid kit and I'm ready to go, but now I'm having doubts about it. Here's a pic of what the stock temp and frequency is As you can see it's not even hitting the max turbo frequency 4.7 and seems to be stuck at 4.12. Should I RMA it or go ahead with the delid anyway?
  12. anything special I should be using to to remove old fluid and cleaning the parts? Will tap water be fine?
  13. hi guys, i'm pretty new to liquid cooling with an open loop. I'm planning to flush my system and I wanted to know what you're experience has been like with this process. I only use distilled water + cryofuel from ek. I wathced a video from JayzTwoCents and he said that he flushes his system ever 6 months if it's distilled water. I wanted to know if this is a normal amount or not. Part of the reason I'm flushing it is because I'm changing my cpu/mobo and getting a new monoblock for the i7 8700k. I plan to also delid the cpu and use liquid metal on it depending on how good my temps will be once I get the loop setup again. Is there anything you guys can recommend in terms of how to do it quickly. In that same video from Jayz he mentioned something about a deep clean using vinegar and I'm not sure I need to if I'm only using distilled water. Also, should i change the tubes? It's been about 6 months since I put this together so I'm not sure about the tubes, let me know you're thoughts. I'm going to be changing the O rings because I'm paranoid about leaks. I have my system running almost 24/7. In the past month it might have been turned off about 2 times for about 24 hours. Thanks in advance!
  14. yes I did delid the cpu, but I"m not trying to hit any world records here lol
  15. can you guys link anything specific? There's so many different choice I don't know what to pick.
  16. Hi, Can anyone recommend an add on wifi card for a gaming/streaming desktop? Something that's good quality in the price range $20-80. It's ok if it goes above this range as long as the performance is worth it.
  17. I'm fixing to change my system to a z370 from x99 and I already have a custom loop going, but my waterblock only covers the cpu. I'm using this HEATKILLER IV PRO and I'm not sure if it would work for an i7 8700k. Should I be concerned about VRM cooling when overclocking with it? Should I instead get a new monoblock to cover both or will heatkiller be fine with stock vrm cooling? Does anyone have a similar set up? The mobo I'm looking to buy is the Asus maximus x.
  18. yes, it will cause galvanized corrosion if you mix those metals.
  19. it doesn't matter but if you need to rma for any reason don't tell that to the manufacturer because they could void your warranty if you don't use supported frequencies (happened to me once).
  20. with that said OLED will be also more expensive
  21. Hi, Anyone know where I can buy a legit w10 pro retail key besides the microsoft store where it's like $200+. I'm not sure if I should just get one from the ebay scammers for $20 or not. I have a new laptop I'm using and I don't need the key, but don't want to see that annoying water mark if I can buy it cheap like $20 or something. Anyone have some ideas for me?
  22. buy bitcoin and come back to this build in a year, you'll have $1million to upgrade with LOL. What are you using for audio the on board stuff?
