  1. Understood... like I said, I just want to get a sense of what it’s like before I make a new laptop purchase I just found out about the new XPS 15 2 in 1s using i5-8305g and i7-8705g which is pretty exciting (Dell link). Wonder when their normal XPS15 refresh will be.
  2. I don’t quite agree with that assumption. Take for example a XPS15... has a 1050 and a mobile i7. the 1050 alone takes up about 50w and the cpu maybe around 15w and is still considered a 15” ultrabook. Step up to a 1060 with or without max q and it’s at least 70w just for the gpu. I think the G series combo processors can be put into low end gaming laptops, or high end ultrabooks all in a smaller package than two separate chips in a Intel+Nvidia set up. Like theguywhobea, I don’t expect any laptops to be out yet given that the NUC hasn’t even started shipping yet, but wanted to see if there are any leads on upcoming or current laptops that do carry it as I plan on getting a laptop mid-late summer.
  3. Hey everyone, I'm currently interested in researching i7-8809G or i7-8705G laptops as I've seen a Hades Canyon NUC videos that got me interested. If anyone can tip me off on laptops that use either of the two processors, preferably thin and light (but anything is welcome), that'd be great! I'd really like to get a laptop that has the gaming performance I want in a thin and light chassis, and the option right now is for me to get the new XPS13, external GPU enclosure, and take the 980ti out of my system and plop it in. That way I don't have to cannibalize my desktop and spend $300-500 on an enclosure. Thanks for your help
  4. I'm wondering the same as well. I am seriously considering getting a 15" model, but have second thoughts about its thermal performance and may just get a XPS
  5. Hi, I took out my drives when I was diagnosing my computer, plugging only my 960gb boot ssd back in when I reinstalled everything into my computer. Now, when I need to use my dvd and hard drive, Windows is not recognizing either at all in disk management, my computer, and device manager any help is appreciated.
  6. Hi, I have an i5-3570k (oc to 4.2) + z77 + 980ti system that would crash and restart (without BSOD) randomly under games (would work fine otherwise)... I figured after it crashed today that it might be the power strip it was plugged into, so now its plugged into the wall directly.. . But after I did that, the power supply seemed odd (when i plugged 3 prong 120v into it, it would spark) and did not post image, but did start up, so I swapped it. It worked and stuff, and once I decided to go back into a game (PUBG), after 20min or so, I get the whea_uncorrectable_error BSOD and my computer thus restarts. I have really only tested PUBG, but that seems to be the issue... and prime95 runs fine (along with temps). I just checked for windows file inconsistencies and there are none, and will check for memory issues. Have also reset CMOS twice (and did not apply my overclock). Edit: sidenote: I have delidded the chip, but did not affect my day to day use at all (other than cooler temps). It also seems to run fine when not in game.
  7. Hello, I have an i5-3570k that is under an h50 aio in a gigabyte z77-d3h motherboard. I have the Easy Tune 6 application installed and have tried to use that to OC (with some success). The problem that I'm having is that HWMonitor (and CPU-z) both read that I am hitting the target frequencies right after booting into windows, but as soon as I fire up Cinebench R15 to see my OC results, I only see a max 4167mhz ish clock. This is also backed up by the fact that I'm consistently hitting 560cb, no matter what my OC is set to (as long as its over 4.2ghz). I have reset CMOS, but still can't figure out how to get it to effectively get over 4.2ghz. I want to overclock as high as I can and do plan on delidding in the future. EDIT: just figured out that the ratios/multipliers in EasyTuner6 were limiting my overclock. Just upped it to 4.4 on all cores and hit 600cb... so I guess I have to uninstall ET6 if I want to OC from BIOS?
  8. I ended up finding to what I believe was the broken link. I pulled one of my kits of 2x8 ddr3 out and I can actually play CS now.... but only time can tell to see if that was the full issue, but there's really nothing else to explain the problems I had.
  9. Hi, I just upgraded to an i5-3570k and a z77 motherboard from my old phenom II. Games run great (PUBG runs smoother than it used to), but when going to test CS:GO, it booted fine. As soon as I joined a match and got in, it just crashed my pc and it restarted. I verified cache and it replaced 3 files, and ran it again, hoping it'd work, but I joined another game, and it crashed again. What can I do to make it run? Side note: every time it crashes, it sets my default audio out to the onboard audio (but I use a usb sound card/mixer).
  10. I'm migrating to ITX in a year, so the cheapest then would be $100, meaning that price savings with the mobo would be negligible
  11. I would contest that though Ryzen is great (for people w/o discounts), I would be getting 8700k at $200 max shipped. With a rough estimate at $150 for an ITX mobo, that puts me at only $350, whereas with Ryzen, I'd have to add on at least $100 for a B350 ITX mobo ontop of the $300 msrp for the 1700. I respect ryzen and am seriously considering it, but I guess its just a waiting game now (as it always is with launches)
  12. Welp, looks like my ram does seem use Samsung B-die according to this reddit post I made sure to buy ram that was supported by both AMD and Ryzen anyways. My ram btw: G.SKILL F4-3000C14D-32GTZ
  13. "B-Die?" BTW I have ordered a kit of G.Skill Trident Z 3000mhz ram already
