  1. Exactly, what is the point for me to go back to android to get if I am lucky 3 years of updates when Apple can offer me double the length at the same price. it's funny over my years, I have actually left android for iPhone and it's honestly a better experience. I still use an android device but for a very limited use case, recording videos, as the thermals for that are much better. Beyond that, its not worth getting an android device because their software update support is that bad whereas I finally parted with my iPhone 8 in September after it wasn't going to be updated anymore. We've been seeing a push to iPhone because and this is in my opinion, people want a device that will last more than two years, which software support side, android fails to deliver, such as the laughable joke that was the pixel pass program. Here has been my personal phone history since my Blackberry 8820. Blackberry 8820 HTC Dream Google Nexus 4 iPhone 6s iPhone 8 Samsung S10e (Only used for video these days; the phone functionally was a used for a short time) iPhone 15 Pro Max So my S10e a $749 smartphone hit EOL in April 2023 after a lifespan of 4 years and 1 month with a sole security update about 7 months ago. My iPhone 8 at $849 dollar phone at the time just got today an security update, 6 and a half years later, and 6 months after the last software update.
  2. Wow... so having a high market share means you are a monopoly apparently. Want to know something funny, that 39.66% of other, shows that Apple indeed does not have a monopoly by definition. By that logic, Boeing has a monopoly too on the 700 series, or that Youtube is the monopoly on video streaming. If you want to see a real monopoly, check out Luxotica. Also, dear DoJ, We are we going after google next?
  3. Epic, of all companies being it’s main competitor to Apple. Tis merely a ruckus laugh. Come back to me with a better argument when Epic forms EpicOS and sells hardware. You do know anyone can get a developers license from Apple. They aren’t special at all. It’s likely that someone noticed that they signed up and it was reported to management. As much as I can’t stand Tim Sweeney who let’s face it has the ego of Jim Jannard, his “we are holier then thou” argument to everything is pitiful and annoying to the point of malicious. Apple has every reason to have concern about Epic not holding up their part of the agreement from their past actions and Sweeney’s emails. The funniest thing about all of this is that Apple wants an assurance that Epic will act in good faith, because let’s face it, anything that’ll happen, Apple’s going to be sued for. And yet here we are, Epic is having the temper tantrum because Apple wants to know that they will be acting in good faith. You do know that with how corporate culture works, Tim Sweeney shouldn’t have told them “I'm writing to tell you that Epic will no longer adhere to Apple's payment processing restrictions.” And then they want to know why Apple can trust them.
  4. (Bold for Emphasis) For example, you testified that Epic Games, Inc. entered into the Developer Program with full understanding of its terms, and then chose to intentionally breach the agreement with Apple. You also testified that Epic deliberately violated Apple's rules, to make a point and for financial gain. More recently, you have described our DMA compliance plan as "hot garbage," a "horror show," and a "devious new instance of Malicious Compliance." And you have complained about what you called "Junk Fees" and "Apple taxes." Your colorful criticism of our DMA compliance plan, coupled with Epic's past practice of intentionally violating contractual provisions with which it disagrees, strongly suggest that Epic Sweden does not intend to follow the rules. This was after Apple Legal told Tim Sweeney "No" the first time in 2020 about alternate payments. (I blacked out the emails) So... Apple is justified here. Also if the EU were to rule for Epic, they would be overstepping their boundaries and a U.S. Court ruling and that opens the headache of cross-jurisdiction. Allowing user choice is one thing, but then you be forcing a company to create a special set of terms and services for a sole person because they had a temper tantrum is another. Context to the quoted email I shared (Court filing PDFs). Email 1 (June 30th, 2020) Apple's Legal Department Response dated July 10, 2020 Email 2 (July 17th, 2020) Email 3 (August 13th, 2020) I'm sorry, Tim Sweeney seems to be the type that when they get killed in a FPS, they would throw the controller at the screen and cry cheater.
  5. Summary Japanese camera company Nikon announces that they are purchasing RED Digital Cinema and that it will become a wholly owned subsidiary. Quotes My thoughts I did not have this on my 2024 Bingo card by any longshot. That being said, I hope that Nikon does allow for others to use for instance ProRes Raw internally, and to make it easier for other companies to introduce their own raw formats as they see fit. We all know that RED was very lawsuit happy, so let's also hope that Nikon doesn't follow Reds footsteps and tries to sue anyone who even thinks about wanting to do a raw format. 7. Summary Intel's Co-Founder and predictor of Moore's Law has died at 94. Moore was the co-founder of Intel with Robert Noyce. Moore held inside of intel the positions of CEO (1979-1987) and Chairman (1979-1997). Moore is noted to have retired from Intel in 2006. To the mods, not sure how I can expand this, given, Quotes My thoughts Rest in Peace Gordon Moore. Thank you for all that you have done for computing and the advancement of technology. 8. Summary Just like the lighting cable of the past, Apple is reportedly going to bring a new generation of authentication ICs to the USB-C models to limit features. While it was reported that the lower price point models would be USB 2.0, this adds yet another potential headache and slap in the face for the EU. Quotes My thoughts I’m going to wait this one out and let the mob handle it. It’s going to depend on how it’s implemented in their ecosystem. Am I entirely surprised, not at all. First and foremost how long it’ll last before it’s broken such as the lighting IC.But it’s going to be interesting to see how it is played out. If it’s for lighting backwards compatibility, I can fully see it happening for wired peripherals for compatibility. But I would not put past them to using the chip to limiting charging speeds. Only time will tell. 9. The LTT store insert does add even at 4K on SDR, 1080p a lot of yellow/blue macroblocking. The HDR stream is also more than double the bitrate. Interestingly, even by Google's own numbers, the SDR Video is being delivered at lower than the target bitrate for VP9 whereas the HDR grade is being delivered above the Google target example bitrate of 18Mbps. This is the VP9 recommended rates for encoding.
  10. I'll share here what I shared on the video on Reddit. They both could have handled that call better. However I took particular issues with her tone and overall company policy as well where she was just trying to give him basically the run around. I have been in Linus' shoes when it comes to being run around by customer service, especially by company policy. Its like when I have to deal with spectrum. I ask for my modems power levels and am told its Proprietary information. They can't release the levels of my quality of service that I actively pay for when I was actively diagnosing network issues, because they don't want to roll a truck out when I have over thousands of data points to point otherwise. Two calls later, another tech tells me, if you want the levels, buy your own modem. Or when I request a new modem three times because the one I have is actively failing to be told on the third call that "We need to justify it to upper management." to be mailed a new one in the beginning of a pandemic (Looking at you Spectrum, April of 2020). That is overall HORRIBLE Customer service. Now going back to their policy at the time of not releasing firmware updates because you don't have their particular unit. You are in for a world of hurt. All it takes is for one major CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) disclosure and then how are you going to fix it? Are yo u going to act properly and release the fix publicly or are you not going to bother and fix it for anything who didn't buy your branded piece of equipment. When you have ANYTHING IoT, there has to be a easy way to update it, because of vulnerabilities. The Satori and Mirai malware come to mind for what happens when customers don't update and when companies won't release updates. There needs to be a common way to fix these issues, and publicly releasing these would be one for a good starter. Especially if OTA updates fail as OTAs are not bulletproof. Do I agree with this actions, no. But have I been there from inept customer service and non-consumer friendly customer service, yes. To add beyond my comment: If Home Automation actually wants to be a thing, there needs to be cross compatibility and not the hodgepodge of applications and hardware many of which are obviously half baked. It's absolutely pathetic that I have to run middle man solutions because something doesn't play nicely from one ecosystem to another. A Prime example are my Philips WiZ lights. The lights are wifi connected and don't have a hub, however they are run by ESP8266s. I have to run homebridge to be graced with the ability to use them with Apple Homekit, because most rooms did not need Philips Hue so I did not pay the Hue Tax in every room. (Signify if you see this, you could have make an library or use the one that is now on Github). Secondary shout out to Samsung as well, for making the ability of having a smart stove and smart refrigerator without the ability of actually seeing your devices information such as serial number.

  12. Summary After deciding to not join the Board of Twitter after buying a 9% stake in the social media company. In a change of events, Elon Musk has offered to wholly buy the company for over 40Billion USD. Quotes My thoughts In a non-shock of being a major market disrupter in at times questionable and fineable actions, I guess running a Car Manufacturer and leading a company at the forefront of space exploration that one would get bored of it. That all being said, It's just getting rather annoying at the increasingly minimal competitive nature of the market with everything being owned by a small majority of companies and entities. It sadly can see this going though, but sadly with the cult he has around himself, I can see the platform degrading in a more so rapid fashion. Yay Capitalism I guess...
