  1. Hello, Bought some used drives on Ebay not too long ago. It was a 10x 3tb drive lot for kinda cheap so I jumped on the occasion! Now I run into an issue where only 5 of them are usable.... Should have seen that coming. The weird thing is that all 10 are showing in the OS, but 5 show no size and I cannot create partitions on them. No initialization option either. Currently running Ubuntu and tried a bunch of things from dear old Google, with no success. Ended up checking SMART status and the 5 are showing Device is Not Ready Would anyone have an idea of what might be going on? or if I'm not providing enough information I can give more -Jerp
  2. Any way to get that custom bottle cap at 5:56 ? would love that instead of having to unscrew and drink with the cap against my face
  3. Had that case before. Can confirm it's the speed of the light effect. Each fan has two cables: 1 for RGB controls 1 PWM cable for the power The RGB cables are plugged into a HUB at the back of the case, and the top controller is plugged in the HUB The power cable are plugged in the FAN headers on the motherboard. Speed of the fan is controlled with this cable, so it's the motherboard that handles it.
  4. Inkscape and GIMP for good free alternatives
  5. Yeah I had the same case before. That was what I feared the most when working inside the case. That case is a "build it, then don't touch it". I changed for a Cosmos C700P. The tempered glass side panel is on a hinge and is easily removable, no screws and no chance of it dropping on the floor. I changed for two reasons: lack of space inside and the hassle of the side / front / top panel blocking the airflow inside the case.
  6. I have a i7 7700hq + gtx1060 laptop and it's running games like beat saber, boxVR, work simulator pretty good. Tried American truck simulator and it was running smoothly. My only advise is for you to check which headset the game is compatible with. Wanted to try Dirt 4, not VR compatible. Dirt Rally? Rift only. They are listed on the steam page on the right. VR games are really niche. Made by small developers mostly for a small amount of people. I don't think it's going to die, but the technology isn't there yet. I guess in about 10 years it's going to be awesome or dead hahahahahah My point is: VR is for enthusiast. For me, the selling point was Beat Saber. For you, it could be something else. My only recommendation is: don't buy it unless you tried it. Try it first and see how you like it. there are gaming conventions organized pretty much everywhere now that showcase them. Go try one and then decide if you want to buy one or not.
  7. Some desktop case don't have usb 2.0 anymore. Just bought a cooler master cosmos c700P and it has 4xUSB3.0 and 1xtypeC. My motherboard (asus z270-e) only has one USB 3.0 internal port On a side note, anyone noticed how much less USB intel boards have compared to AMD???
  8. Keeping it on my desk because dust on the floor and RGB glory
  9. Tested home connection vs PIA. I'm in Quebec, Canada connecting to a PIA server in Washington DC. With VPN: without VPN and using same server for speedtest: I am paying for 150down, 50up but I receive 150/150 normally, with some fluctuation ^^. I also want to add that the server picked by Speedtest was chosen automatically during the VPN test and it's 1000km away from my home. For a VPN connection, not that bad I leave it on all the time and completely forget about it, even while gaming.
  10. Yeah I really want to but I lack the money to do so I live near montreal so it's a lot easier for me ^^" There's also Lan ETS montreal so I am able to go to two lan parties per year
  11. World's Fastest Internet - 1.6 TERABITS per Second Is it only me or this video should have been called somehting else? like something something "dreamhack walkthrough". Mainly because they also talk about the rest of the setup there. BTW I'm part of the volunteer crew for Dreamhack montreal and it's always awesome to be a part of an event on this scale
  12. the show has already been filmed. They are editing it completely and will release it once it is done. I remember they mentioned it during a wan show or something....
  13. in the recording devices: But like @Ryan_Vickers said, you will hear yourself back.
  14. Voicemeeter banana can do that for you. Takes multiple input sources and gives you the ability to route them to whichever output you want, AKA discord. You can even control the volume independently https://www.vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm I use this for streaming on twitch, got my games, discord, music and microphone on different input sources so it's easier to control the balance between them. I also have 3 sound outputs (headset, LED audio controller, Speaker) and the two virtual outputs for discord and stream.
  15. you might want to check with the power efficiency of your future power supply. I know it's more expensive but more efficient power supplies will waste less power running your rig. Same thing with bigger power supplies. I tend to buy a power supply twice the wattage of my build because most PSUs will hit peak performance at about half load. They will also most likely stay cool enough to not have the fan turning. According to pcpart picker, with your current build you'd need about 214W (that's without counting drives, fans and other random crap). So with 500W power supply you should be fine. If you can spend the extra money, I'd suggest a 600W to leave some headroom for a more powerfull GPU in the future.
  16. Hahahahahhaha "sounds" hahahahahha Sorry X) Vibration headset? for trying or a short time ok, but maybe not all the time. Plus if there is a motor there must be a weight in the headset. Or it's a Piezoelectric thing like in cell phones.
  17. So I found these while searching the internets: https://www.plantronics.com/us/en/product/backbeat-pro-2 Any review from someone using them? I'd be using them for gaming or music listening. I'm not looking for "7.1 surround" headsets, as long as it's stereo I'm fine with it. With a modmic 5 if the microphone is not good enough for gaming.
  18. I think it's already activated? In your snip I am looking at the window on the bottom left. This is the "options" menu of the realtek hd audio manager? This is how mine looks like: (SupremeFX is my motherboard's fancy name for the realtek audio manager ) The setting you want selected is the one under playback device -> make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams.... With this you should be able to set windows as default to the rear, start a game, then modify the default peripheral to your headset and start your other media output.
  19. The realtek audio manager will change depending on the motherboard. There might be another software for the management of the sound (I'm at work currently and we have realtek chipset for audio, but the software is DTS audio control panel). What is the motherboard model exactly? I see you have an asus board but which one? I did what you are trying to do at work and on my personal computer so I might be able to help
  20. Hello!! I currently own a HyperX Cloud 2 headset for almost 3 years now and I am getting tired of having to move the wire out of my way in most of my daily uses. I use it at home and bring it at the job also. Here is how I use it mostly: Gaming/Chatting at home with the USB dongle Plugged in my phone for music listening or phone call Music listening at the job with using the Jack connector directly plugged in the computer (with a cable extender) Here is what I would be looking for: Main goal is to become wireless at home or with my cell phone Use the wire for the job because no Bluetooth available Around 250$ / 300$ CAD I checked and tested the Steelseries Arctis 7 and the Lucidsound LS30 and they sound REALLY good and are in my price range, but they use a USB dongle and I really don't want to use this. My goal is to either use Bluetooth or directly plugged into the motherboard (The dongle on my HyperX adds an annoying "white" noise that is noticeable on low volume content). What do you guys think? Is what I am looking for feasible? would you recommend against my goal?
  21. I go through this everytime I have to enable surround. takes me a good 5min to do I guess everyone has switched to ultrawide monitors instead :'(
  22. So the question is literally in the title x) I am wondering why Nivida surround is so bad. I am talking from experience here having 3x 1080p monitors for modern gaming (Farcry 5, Assassin's creed Origins, Dirt 4, ETS, ATS ...). Honestly, for gaming, I don't see really any issues apart from the bezels. But as a "daily driver" ? Here are my main complains: - Watching any content full-screen is a nope. - All windows when you try to maximize them they take either the three screens, or the one you don't want. - I have a 4th monitor on top of my setup. Trying to move ANY window to that one is a real pain in the ass. - Windows clock not updating unless you put the taskbar on all screens. Right now, those are the main issues I encounter daily when using my setup in surround configuration. And no I'm not switching every time I start a game because it's just too much time consuming (close all programs interfering, activate surround, wait for monitors to "reboot", change the order of the monitors and add bezel correction, wait for monitors to "reboot" again, and select the bezel corrected resolution). Please take the following propositions taking this into consideration: I am a mere computer technician but I have a base in programming. I don't know if it's because of Nvidia, Windows or if it is considered to much a "niche" market. I don't know how fullscreen is managed on windows / video driver / games side. Now back to the topic! Here is how I could see it working at it's best: Remove surround completely - Give games the possibility to run at a higher resolution in fullscreen regardless of what monitor you are using. OR: Make Windowed mode re-sizable so it could stretch to all monitors (this already works great on Minecraft BTW) Add you own idea! I'd be happy to hear what everyone have to say on this -Jerp
  23. I have a Corsair 570x and can say that cable management is not so bad, but still not really easy. On my advantage, the computer is against the wall so I am not showing the "bad" side I bought it last year with some pretty hot components (aorus GTX 1080ti, intel i7 7700k watercooled with a corsair h100i). At first it is really pretty. in the winter I love it, but in the summer it is a nightmare. there is almost no airflow because of the front and top tempered glass pannels. I am running the case without them since this summer because my stuff was overheating. For prettiness, it is a YES For usability/overclocking, I deeply regret buying it. Enjoy the RGB
