  1. Uhm, can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that this "leaked price" for the RTX 4070 was utter B/S? And lo and behold, who was the source for this "leak"? The Youtuber "Moore's law is dead". I have said it before, but I'll say it again: this guy doesn't have any reputable "sources". And all his "leaks" and "rumors" from "industry sources" are just COMPLETELY made up out of thin air. Why is anyone giving ANY credibility or attention to this guy? He is just some guy in his moms attic making shit up.
  2. I must agree that, all else being equal, Nvidia has raised their prices on every tier of card. People claim "but everything has gotten more expensive, inflation". Well, compounded inflation between 2016 (launch of GTX 1070) and 2023 (launch of RTX 4070) in the USA was 19.7%. That means a GTX 1070 of $379 would cost $453 in 2023 dollars. Not $600. So yes, whatever the name they choose to give it, the 70-tier card has increased in price more than inflation, so has the 4090, 4080, etc.. So one could argue that a 70-tier card is now "less mainstream" than it was before. If the average salary has only gone up 19.7%, but the GPU's of every tier have gotten 58% ($379 to $600) more expensive... Then objectively less people will be able to afford it, so less mainstream. Source for inflation rate: https://www.worlddata.info/america/usa/inflation-rates.php You could also just say that PC gaming in general has become less mainstream. Console pricing has not increased as much as it has to build a PC of any performance level. In fact, a PS3 was $599 or $499 depending on the model, so the $499 PS5 launch price is actually CHEAPER than the PS3 was at launch, because it hasn't kept pace with inflation.
  3. You make a good point. The naming at the end of the day doesn't matter. The product and price matter. But I think people griping about the name actually mean to say they think the product and price are not good, not matching up. People are actually upset that you used to be able to buy a GTX 1070 which delivered performance of two tiers up of past generation (980Ti) at a 70% discount ($649 to $379 MSRP at launch). Now we have equal (or worse at 4K) performance to ONE tier up from last generation (4070 to 3080) at only 17% discount ($699 to $600 MSRP). So you are objectively getting less of a generational boost than used to be the norm for basically decades of GPU launches. When Nvidia's CEO said "Moores law is dead" he basically said "We are not going to keep delivering more performance each generation for the same prices; We are going to increase prices if we are increasing performance". Whether that is because Moores law is actually dead (because the manufacturing of more performance is actually not getting cheaper gen on gen), or because Nvidia DECIDED that it is dead to line their pockets, who knows? But people are upset about it, and rightfully so IMO.
  4. I think Nintendo's approach on this kind of stuff is really short sighted. They are so afraid of anything that has to do with modding, that they don't realize it is a beneficial thing for them. This is part of the reason Skyrim sold so many copies over the years: people get creative with the mods, and keep the game fresh or evergreen for a very long time. People love tinkering with it. Without mods, interest in Skyrim would have died way sooner. This multiplayer mod would have kept people playing Zelda BOTW, and they would have created more hype around the Zelda games as they are getting ready to release the sequel. Even worse, they actively clamp down on people streaming their games and being creative with them. They are killing off what is essentially free advertising for them, free "influencers". Even if you clamp down on the actual mods, keeping videos up of people doing silly things with your games can only increase interest in them.
  5. It is probably good that it is an option but, honestly, I am not really going to use this. As an iPhone and former Android user, as someone who has jailbroken their iPhone in the past... these days I just need it to do what it does out of the box. I think a lot of Apple users see their "walled garden" approach as a feature, not a bug. Users prone to tinkering with their devices probably buy something else and put a custom ROM on it. Honestly, the only reason I had ever jailbroken my phone was to install pirated apps... And while there were some other cool custom things I could do with the jailbroken iOS, that was really the main reason. Just as all those people who claim they need emulation and custom firmware on their Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles for "preservation purposes" and to "play ROMS that they dumped themselves, because they definitely own the cartridges": let's be honest, 95% of people use these tools for piracy. I guess the good thing about 3rd party app stores is potentially opening up the possibility of a kind of "Epic games store" on iOS that charges developers less than 30% of their revenue... that would be a positive development.
  6. I am also contemplating the 6950XT: Why get it now though? If you can wait, the 7800XT should offer the same performance for less money and less power draw? Or is AMD expected to pull an Nvidia and just price the 7800 XT at 700 (offering same performance for same money than last gen)?
  7. Great, so now we are getting $600 "midrange" GPU's that are taking "quality shortcuts". FFS
  8. Thanks, good info. It's a Corsair PSU and Gold rated, so I am assuming it is solid quality and still OK.
  9. Thanks, didn't know that. Yes you are right, I can always just try it and see how it goes.
  10. Thanks. Sadly Corsair doesnt make an SF850. The highest SFX PSU they make is SF750. It seems like Cooler Master has a Gold rated 850 Watt SFX PSU though...
  11. Euhm, the max GPU length that can fit in the Sugo is 270mm, 280mm if you put it right up to the mesh panel. The reference 6950XT is 267 mm long.. In fact, I have a 267mm card in there right now, and it fits fine. The max thickness for GPU is 54mm, this is 50mm thick. This cooler has been on this CPU for 4 years and running great. The CPU doesnt go above 75C at full load and 100% GPU usage. Sure the 6950XT will be hotter than the 980Ti and add more heat to the case, but I doubt it cause my CPU to all of a sudden hit 100C. This case is full of holes, it is basically an open bench. I can accept that the PSU is not powerful enough. But the rest of the comments you made, I don't think you are correct.
  12. Its like 4.5 years old. How time flies.. DO PSU's really degrade over time though? Ok, that is good info, thanks for the feedback. I guess getting the 6950XT would mean also needing to get a new PSU... need to factor that into the cost then. Thanks!
  13. Hello all, This is my current build: According to PCpartpicker, it uses 440 Watts of power. I have a Corsair SF600 Gold rated PSU. According to PC partpicker, this build only uses 540 watts though... Would my 600 Watt Corsair SF600 Gold rated PSU be enough? Thanks!
  14. Yeah you're right. Im at 1440p/ 60. Wont be looking at going to 4K any time soon. Just want to be able to max everything out at 1440p. Another issue is I have a small ItX case (sugo 13) and besides the AMD reference 6950XT, i cannot find the more powerful cards that even fit my case. Exceptions are the 6700XT and the 4070, those would fit. So it seems like the higher end cards are just not meant for small builds anyway (triple slot super long cards only).
  15. There are almost no 6800's in stock in my region (Benelux) and the 6800XT is 620 euros. So that pricing doesnt exist here. If I could get the 6800XT for 470 EUR that would obviously be a good deal, but its not.
  16. But the cheapest 6800 XT in my region is 620 EUR. That doesnt seem compelling and the 6950XT at 689 seems way better value. The 6800 is very hard to find seems like.
  17. Hello all, I was looking to upgrade to a card in the 400-600 EUR range. The 6700XT probably, but I was waiting to see the pricing and performance of the 4070. At these prices: - RX 6700XT: 405 EUR - RTX 4070: 669 EUR (theoretically, remains to be seen) - RX 6950XT: 689 EUR. Everyone in the reviews of the RTX 4070 is saying at these prices, get the 6950XT, since it is much faster than the 4070 at the same price. BUT: looking at the 6700XT, the 6950XT is like 47% faster, but 70% more expensive. So the real value king in this lineup is still the 6700XT? Am I correct, or missing something here? Thanks!
  18. I don't think this config will run COD Warzone at 1080p 60fps. Not by a long shot. The CPU on the 3400G is Zen+, super old at this point, and the GPU on it is.. not good. I found this video of someone running COD warzone 2.0 on the 3400G, average FPS is not too bad, but it is a stutterfest, probably due to CPU bottleneck. Also, I would strongly advise against not having an SSD. The HDD will just be horrificly slow in daily use.
  19. This is something like I would recommend, but this is as cheap as you can go really. Not sure even how well the 5600G iGPU would handle COD Warzone... Budget is really too low for anything decent honestly. Get a deal on a used system, or try save up more money. This budget is unrealistic. <removed by staff>
  20. Yes you are right its still a good card. Best card I ever bought really. It runs Cyberpunk at 1440p just fine. It runs pretty much anything current at 1440p medium settings. And older games at 1440p ultra. Im just looking down the line and with games like Starfield on the horizon, I think its going to start to struggle. But you are correct, value is so bad right now, its been hard to find a compelling reason to upgrade.
  21. True, but Im afraid 10 series pricing aint never coming back. We can only hope...
  22. Thanks, Yeah, I will probably wait and see what the 7700xt and 4070 bring. The 4070 should be only a few weeks away if rumors are to be believed. 4070 will probably be overpriced at like 600-700. But if the performance is like a 3080ti, that's actually a "normal" price compared to current mid range prices and might be worth getting that over the current offerings . Thanks, yeah it feels like I should probably wait and see. I don't know, I never saw crazy deals on any 3070 or 3080s. I just saw them drop to near their MSRP from being super inflated. Then they just went out of stock. Thank you, Thats true, and it is the reason I am not in any hurry to upgrade. I can honestly wait another generation, just shopping around to see whether its worth it right now. Thanks, yes I can easily wait as my current gaming is OK, and the current cards feel sooo old, it seems like better to wait. the RX6800 seems good, but I have a small form factor ITX case (Silverstone Sugo13), and I havent seen any models that would fit inside of it. Thanks, but I don't want to buy used because new products I can tax deduct as a business expense. That negates the cost benefit of buying used for me. I just hope AMD doesn't jack up the prices for the 7000 series like Nvidia... Thanks everyone for the feedback!
  23. Hello all, I'm currently using a 980Ti, using a 1440p / 60Hz monitor. So far it has been fine, I play mostly older or less demanding games Like Battlefield 1, Battlefield V, Verdun, Stray, etc. But lately I am having to turn down some games to medium settings to get 60fps (Isonzo, RDR2, Battlefield 2042), so it is getting time for an upgrade, but I am not in a rush. I was looking at the 6700XT, delivering about twice the performance of my 980Ti, and the price seems OK around 420 EUR. I just want to be able to max everything out at 1440P / 60fps for a few years to come. Not necessarily interested in ray tracing. I was waiting to see if prices were dropping, but the last gen seems to have stagnated. The current gen RTX 40 series or AMD 7000 series does not seem compelling. They offer more performance, but also at higher cost. Is it wise at this point to buy a 6700XT, it feels like this card is quite old at this point? Or should I wait for the 7700XT or 4070 to come out? Do you expect they offer better value? Thanks!
  24. Hello all, I have a Framework laptop with its original power adapter, but the detachable USB-C cable is fraying. I do have several Macbook Pro USB-C power adapters lying around. Can I just use a USB-C to USB-C cable from the Macbook Pro and use it with the Framework power adapter? Are there different standards of USB-C cables I should be aware of? I would assume that the cable that came with the Macbook Pro is of good quality and can handle sufficient power / wattage to charge any other laptop? Thanks!
