  1. Yeah, IMO the strix just offers more... The EVGA card is pretty sweet but it lacks anything new but a new cooler, while the strix brings the onboard fan headers and of course the 2 HDMI ports.
  2. Just purchased the Asus GTX 1070 Strix OC card, Thanks everyone!
  3. Yeah, was just making sure that I'm not making an awful decision to go with ASUS, from what I am told while EVGA IS better, I won't have that bad of issues with ASUS either I'm sure ill upgrade it within a year or two... just worried that I am not making a terribly bad decison Ahh sorry, was thinking of the Xtreme Gaming card
  4. I've looked at the G1s and haven't really liked the look of them, also don't like that it is more than a 2 slot card, even though I like the idea of putting one fan under the others But does it make it worth it to wait, lose the extra HDMI port in lieu of DP I won't use, and paying extra?
  5. The time has finally come... I am about to order the GPU for my next computer build, I have decided on the GTX 1070, and have narrowed down my search to the Asus GTX 1070 Strix OC and EVGA GTX 1070 FTW due to me wanting the best 1070 since I want it to last me. There are some factors to include however: -I can order the Strix TODAY and have it delivered in 2-3 days, whereas the FTW I would have to wait for it to comeback in stock -I can get the Strix for $449 instead of $459 for the FTW -They both look fine to me aesthetically, I read another thread asking about these cards and there seemed to be a fanboy war over aesthetics, So I am not concerned about that. In that other thread, there was mentioning about Asus being worse than EVGA, should I be concerned that much about Asus to make me wait to get my hands on the EVGA model? I also like that the strix has 2 HDMI ports over 3 DP ports, should I give up that for the EVGA model and why?
  6. I meant would the CPU be fine with a new GPU. not replacing the CPU and not the mobo, keeping the CPU. I might explore getting a 1060 and if not a 1070 because its performance I don't need.
  7. After looking it over... The soonest I could get the monitor is 1 year, So im thinking 1070 or even 1060? Also, I could upgrade the PSU, case, and GPU and the CPU would be fine?
  8. its so loud, dusty, and the case doesn't allow for really any cable management with no back tray and the PSU being on the top
  9. 1 and 2 aren't numbers in which it is priority, I use both PCs around %50 of the time I'm using a PC I also actually did order 8 gigs of ram for that rig to replace the 4 already in there, don't know what was up but PC never booted using either both, or each single stick so it could've been a DOA or the mobo not liking newer ram.
  10. Really all depends on the prices of those monitors, I mean $450 for a monitor is not doable very soon.
  11. Need two different PCs for two different locations :3
  12. So I am torn... I have a budget of $1200, so at first I was eyeing the GTX 1070. Then I was messing around on PCPP and found out a way to fit an i5-6600k and GTX 1080 FE (Of course not the FE, probably a Classified Version or FTW Version but they are either same or lower price) for $1300, So I was willing to spend the extra $100 for the GTX 1080. The thing is: I only have a 1080p monitor, and with this PC, I am not going to have enough money for a 1440p monitor in quite sometime to be able to utilize this performance. So my next option was, get the 1070 and upgrade some things, like make the case have tempered glass and upgrade my Cryorig H7 to a AIO Water cooler. But even then, I am either hitting my budget right on or exceeding it. What should I do? Spend the extra $100 for the 1080 and go strictly for performance with an Air cooler and budget case, with GPU performance I won't use for a while, or go with the 1070 and the AIO and nice case? Should I think about the GTX 1060 even? What should I do? Thanks!
  13. Get an ATX motherboard and it will, don't know about Micro ATX, and it won't have an extra one for Mini-ITX
  14. Valid point, no reason too. However it is MicroATX and he may want an ATX mobo for an ATX case, unless he wants to do small form factor. Really up to him and his buddy.
  15. He wanted to go cheap on a mobo but not too cheap I Think. He had a $110 H170 mobo so i told him to go with the Z170 mobo for 5bucks less because in the future it can accommodate unlocked CPUs and overclock and/or crossfire for the RX 480
  16. Dude, the Asus Z170-E mobo is cheaper than the H170 mobo, by 5 bucks without MIR, and like 25 with MIR. Also you might wanna try the Cryorig H7 cooler, it is said to perform and look better than the 212-EVO
  17. While the Asus Z170-E board offers crossfire and SLI, you dont need to use it is the beauty of it. That is a solid mobo on the Z170 chipset and offers expansion to a i7-6700k if he decided he needed it, and lets him overclock. Also, if he decides he wants to play more graphically intense games he will be able to throw another RX 480 in for GTX 1070 like performance
  18. For $850, this is the build I'd do for that price point. Has the new RX 480 and the i5-6600k, which has the highest not OC clock of all the sky lake i5s. This build could be over clocked, but in your case if you do this you wouldn't need to over clock as from my view it doesn't seem you need too. This build will be quiet with the aftermarket cooler. 19. The one justification for it is because you plan to SLI, you will get a lot more future proofing out of a 1080 and SLI-zing it when the performance isn't up to par for your needs. Also at 165hz and 1440p the GTX 1070 may struggle a little bit and if not now then in the near future.
  20. My purpose is to play current and new games with the build, like current being BO3 and Fallout 4, new games being Battlefield 1 I will start off using it at 1080p but a few weeks after that I aim to be getting a 1440p monitor. I will be fine using my 500GB SDD from my old build, and if someone wants to add an extra bulk drive they can, but with the parts i'm asking it is not necessary. I will also update this in the main post, Thanks!
  21. So I decided that I needed to build another PC to replace my second main rig (Specs are #2 in my signature), I will be using it for Media Consumption and to play games like BO3, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1, Overwatch, and possibly even DOOM at high settings on 1080p to start and 1440p when I get my new monitor. I have a strict budget of $1200 and I don't need any storage, as I already have a 500GB SSD that will be enough for a while, What I am wondering is if anyone can: Build either a part list featuring either a GTX 1080 and Intel Core i5-6600k, or a GTX 1070 and Intel Core i7-6700k under my $1200 price point. I would attempt myself, and I have but I am very stingy when it comes to PC parts, where I pick something more expensive to assure quality, when something of the same model does just what I need at a lower price. I would rather do the 1080 and i5 build as it would give me more GPU performance, but I'd like to see what i can get with a 1070 and i7 build Thanks in Advance Everyone -ConiferousJelly EDIT: Also if anyone can see if they can fit in a Enthoo Evolve ATX TG with a GTX 1070 and i5-6600k I would be interested seeing those too :P, thanks)
  22. If you want the full performance, build a new Mini-ITX PC and use the laptop for everything but gaming. If it will cost the same amount, a desktop PC is more worth it as you are not loosing the full performance. I don't know how/where/why you use your computer, so I can't specifically recommend based on why, but i would only recommend it in certain situations due to performance loss and bottle necking.
  23. There will be no MSRP version of the card by Nvidia, however the only card I know that will be close to MSRP is the Msi Aero 8G, and yes that will be a reference PCB and would work. When you order the card make sure it is either the FE or a Reference PCB, and if you need to know if it has the Reference PCB, feel free to contact me by PM or post another discussion when you plan to get it so we can make sure it will work
  24. As of right now the FTW Edition of the GTX 1070 will not be available in the US until next week, confirmed from Jacob Freeman, the product manager at EVGA over twitter in my picture below. The stock in EU/UK is spotty right now but getting there, I would give it 2-3weeks before the FTW is avaliable in the UK. If you need one soon the SC edition will be available quicker in the UK. Sorry a lot of people are waiting on availability for this card
