  1. Hi LTT community! My monitor has started displaying some weird signs. It has a green tinge around the screen and has vertical lines in places. I've done some initial troubleshooting to figure out where the issue lies. I have two screens, when I switch the HDMI output from the effected monitor to the one which is normal, the issue disappears. So issue is not with GPU (thank god). So the issue is with the monitor, but as you can see in the images and videos below, it does some weird stuff. The haze stays almost relative to a particular pixel set within an image for example. As shown in "Pic 1", there is some green pixels. In "Vid 1" the pixels effected follow an area relative to the image. In "Vid 2", you can see as I mess with colour profile, green haze disappears in places but reappears in other areas. You can also see in "Pic 2" some vertical lines during flash up. My conclusion is, the monitor is now unable to render certain colors. What do people think? Vid 1.mp4 Vid 2.mp4
  2. I highly doubt it is anything to do with the connectors. I say this as the fault described in my initial post developed while the battery was charging normally with the connector in. So, I doubt there is something physically blocking it. However, I have done a visual check and everything appears to be fine.
  3. Hi all, as some additional pieces to the mystery, PSB. Anyone ever seen pitting on a plug before?
  4. Hi All, Earlier today, I was playing games and noticed my FPS dropped. I quickly realised my laptop was not on charge. However, everything was plugged in. I moved the cable of the AC adapter slightly and it seemed to be charging again. Shortly after that, I realised that even though it was saying it was charging, my battery level was dropping. The orange light on the side was on, suggesting the system was being charged. This was equally shown on the desktop, where the battery icon in the system tray said it was charging. My initial thoughts was that there was an issue with the AC adapter. So, I got a voltmeter out and checked the volts outputted by the adapter (from the DC side) when plugged in matched what was printed on the adapter. Everything was fine with it and was within an error of +/- 0.5 volts of the rated adapter. I then performed component checks using HP's UEFI component checkers. According to that, the battery and AC adapter passed all checks. So, I'm left rather confused with what it could be. My laptop is now dead and won't boot, even when plugged in. In the video below, you can see what the system was doing in it's final moments: https://youtu.be/Mx1nWuDfN6M As you can see, it was bouncing out of a charging state. Before this video, the system tray for the battery was saying it was charging, although the battery percentage was dropping and never increased. I'm curious what you think could be faulty here. Could it be the battery although it passed the diagnostic checks? Could it be the adapter even though it hit the 19.5 volts it's rated for? This laptop is under extended warranty with HP, so will be sending it off next week for repairs. However, I had to get this repaired 4 months ago for a faulty battery, where it was barely keeping 15-20 minutes of charge at idle. So, just wanting to get your opinions in-case they never fixed the original problem. I've also had to get this laptop repaired for a faulty screen as well as another for a SSD that died. Bare in mind, I have only had this laptop since early 2019, so at what point is this an unreasonable experiance for me as an end user? I feel like I am in a position to reasonably ask for an entire new system off them at this point. Or am I just unlucky? 5. Thanks for the feedback all. I'm still not 100% sound why this works, but, I will remember it in the future.
  6. I am as confused as everyone else is. It makes zero sense to me, thus my question. But, he is now playing games with 60% (1440p) CPU usage instead of 100% (1080p). GPU usage has also increase. Before, he was around 70% of 3D usage, now it is constantly maxed out. In Squad, he was getting an average FPS of 31, now he is getting 60. It makes absoluetly zero sense to me, that's why I am here.
  7. This is what I thought also. I checked that he was accidently rendering at a higher resolution when displaying 1080p. Nope, was most certainly on a 1080p going to 1440p @Downkey. I came across this article when googling which may explain it: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/9ikrwz/why_does_increasing_resolution_lower_cpu_load/
  8. Hi All, Quick question for the community, my friend was getting horrific FPS in games such as Squad and Warzone. While watching task manager, we noticed the CPU was a bottleneck. After a bit of trial and error, we switched from a 1080p monitor to a 1440p monitor and noticed his FPS almost double in these titles, and CPU usage was not constantly at 100%. Could someone explain to me how CPU performance decreases when you increase the resolution of the monitor? I've done a bit of googling around this topic and I can't seem to understand it. 9. Just putting it in the other 16x slot won't be enough. Try and reseat your CPU as @HelpfulTechWizardsaid.
  10. What was your process of elimiation? Did it not work in another system?
  11. Interesting. What would be the root cause of that, a pin not making contact?
  12. Yep, best thing to do with these issues is a process of elimiation. Best way to test if it is the GPU is to either put a new GPU in the 16x slot, or put your current GPU in another system. If it works, either your Motherboard or PSU has had it. Otherwise, you have a dead GPU.
  13. Have you tried a different GPU in the 16x slot? Does the GPU show any signs of power (fans spinning etc).
  14. It could be a range of things. Have you checked that all your cables, to and from the PSU are seated properly, and that the GPU is also seated properly?
  15. I've never tried it honestly. In my head of CFD, it would create a positive pressure and would only feed cold air to the radiator. My advice would be to try different ways around and put your system under a sustained load using some software. Fans are easy to flip around. Just monitor what your max temps are.
