  1. I'm currently working in a law firm in Chicago, and I can think of several. Hell, I've got stuff right here in another window that could be a big deal if someone with bad intentions got their hands on it. It might just be something as simple and everyday as protecting personal and contact information. Plenty of people access their bank accounts via their computer, and plenty of people may keep tax records or bank statements backed up on their drive. Or, imagine a small business owner. If someone gets into their harddrive, they may have access to private business records, as well as even more dangerous stuff, like employee social security numbers and banking information. There are other things I run into that are less common outside of this office, I'm sure, but that are still a big deal worth mentioning. If an attorney's laptop is stolen and the thief accesses confidential client information, well, that may not end very well for the client or the company. ... lmfao I didn't even think about that. Ouch. Yeah, that would be a bit of an issue, wouldn't it... ... Well, at least you would have a hard time guessing. I assume the text isn't exactly something like "password123", and matching however many possible password combinations there are to the 1,000,000,000--1,000,000,000,000 possible phone numbers (depending on whether or not they also use country codes) would take forever, even with massive computers texting constantly.
  2. Alright, so right now in my system, I have about 3TBs of data across three drives (and a 120GB SS boot drive). I am somehow running low on space. I don't know how. It doesn't really matter. I finally got around to purchasing an additional WD Black drive which has 3TBs of space, and when it gets here, I want to start moving stuff over to it, but only certain things. I don't want to move my iTunes library, for instance, because then relocating it leaves me with a bunch of duplicates and it is just such a pain to fix it all. I know, the easy solution is to not use iTunes, but I've used it for so long now that I just don't want to bother getting a better one. So, while I can take care of Steam games and non-registry dependent stuff like photos and videos, I was wondering how I should take care of all the other programs that aren't controlled by something on my boot drive (Steam, Origin, UPlay, etc.). Is there a way to do mass registry edits? Like, moving over everything from the 1TB WD Black drive I have, and then doing like, a find and replace on everything located under the E:/ drive to whatever the new drive ends up being named? Or could I move everything over to the new drive, and then just change the name to E:/? But then I'd have to worry about what to do about the stuff on the D:/ and G:/ drives that needs to be moved, so I guess I'm definitely looking for some kind of mass regedit thing. I've tried Googling and found some stuff, though mostly the results are looking for Mass Effect registry edits. The most relevant result was to some Windows systinternal download section or something. That was by searching for [mass regedit]. I also tried searching for [mass regedit -"mass effect"], and didn't really get anything, though my Google skills may be incorrect, there. I figure at least a few people here should probably have dealt with something similar and would know a good way of going about it.
  3. Yeah, my Googling revealed that they're pretty neat (or at least seem like they should be), and are available to purchase by personal invitation only. Lame. It's a cell-phone, not a one-off 1.2 million dollar Ferrari.
  4. Oh yeah, that really old phone that's made out of plastic and actually not that hard to break despite what the internet seems to think. No, I don't think I'm interested in that. Sorry. T-Mobil - thread updated Blackberries still exist? Woah. That actually looks pretty decent. Is 16GB the only available memory config or can I get more? Or at least use a Micro SD to get more music and stuff on it?
  5. Hello LinusTechTips forums. This time I'm looking for smartphone advice. EDIT: carrier is T-Mobile but not hard and fast; I might change carriers if need be. Besides, Verizon seems to offer much better coverage... Great job getting rid of contract benefits and discounts, T-Mobile; now I have no reason to remain loyal.
  6. Okay, unplugging, turning it off, plugging in, and turning on didn't work. So I tried unplugging, then restarting, and plugging it back in while it rebooted. I'm already at 1.4 Mb/s so I'm closer. I may have gotten it... I'm going to try a speedtest and Steam client and such real quick... EDIT: Nope. Still not back up to speed. Speedtest said 1.27mbps down, 7.13mbps up -.-
  7. Alright, so I'm at Uni, and I've got an internet connect, right? Okay. It's normally like, a 10MB download connection (I don't know, something like what, 100 or 1000Mbs or something?) (system specs in signature). So, I recently unplugged my ethernet cable for a few minutes. I wanted to open Vuze to find something I couldn't remember where I put it, and university cuts internet for ALL torrent traffic, including the legal downloads I was making (Humble Bundle games, and Nitronic Rush)... despite the university website saying legal P2P traffic would be unaffected. So much for that. Anyway, I closed the program, put the ethernet cable back in, and if you'll look at Screenshot_44, that first, greyed-out ethernet connection is the one that is normally active. For some reason, my computer now uses the bottom one. A normal Steam download might get in the realm of 7-9 MB/s download speed, now I'm not even getting one. Screenshot_1 is just the network resource monitor, just in case that's relevant. I tried restarting it, and I was going to try disconnecting, turning off, reconnecting, and turning back on, and some other variations on that general idea, but I've already spend like an hour waiting on this download and if I can't restore my connection, that's an hour lost... Even loading this website is taking AGES. Any ideas?
  8. I would enjoy watching either of these things. I was actually never really interested in Trine 2, but hearing Slick talk about it, I might end up trying it, now. I guess, while I might find the toys more immediately interesting to watch, I definitely appreciated the detail Slick went into regarding the gameplay. If I was thinking about buying a game, and Slick had a review of it, I would definitely let that review influence my buying decision. Maybe I'd like to hear more of what he thinks of the presentation, though, too; not just the gameplay... like, the aesthetic, the visual detail, and the performance (like, how demanding the game is to run and/or just how well it manages to run). It's @~3:15 "If you were to accidentally discharge it into your eye or your mouth or whatever else, you might not go Kurt Cobain on it, but it wouldn't be comfortable, that's for sure."
  9. Oh, sorry. I didn't mean I have like, a strict budget, just that it seemed like the most popular ones on Sweetwater were around that area. If they're more expensive, it just sort of means I'll have to wait a bit longer to afford them. The DT880 is a bit much, but the DT440 is an option, though reviews seem to suggest a bit of modification might be in order... well, I'm not averse to doing a bit of that.
  10. Hello LTT forum, how are you? Good to hear. I'm new but figured I'd start asking around here for something I've been sort of looking into but have had sort of a hard time going by (seeing as how every manufacturer is going to say they have what I'm looking for, anyway). So, the short of it is that I'm looking for a solid pair of headphones for music production. I'm not producing stuff that goes on local radio and gets a few thousand views on YouTube, but I'd like to, and one of the biggest problems I've run in to is that a mix that sounds okay on my headphones will sound like cruddy playing through different speakers and headphones. It probably has to do with the headphones and headset I use. One of them is a "gaming" headset that really lacks a decent bass response (so when I use those, I tend to end up with a bit too much low-end), and the other doesn't have a long enough cable (I need a long cable in order to keep it out of the way of my arms and the guitar while I'm playing), and too much bass (so I play it on speakers and the bottom end is just gone). I also do a fair amount of gaming, but I don't mind if the headphones/headset aren't "optimized for gaming" or whatever the gaming headset adverts always say. Basically, I'm looking for something with a really flat response, with good clarity. Over-ear is preferred but on or in-ear are okay, too. I don't need anything super loud that doesn't distort even though it's putting out the same decibels as a detonating nuclear bomb on my shoulder, either. My budget is flexible. It seems like a lot of the most popular options on Sweetwater range from ~$60 to ~$150, so that seems like it might be a sweet-spot for value. So far, I've been looking into Sennheiser's HD 280 PRO (I've heard good things about Sennheiser as a really solid, transparent headphone manufacturer), and Direct Sound's EX-29 headphones (because Paul Gilbert advertises them and who am I to question Paul Gilbert?). Do you guys have any other suggestions as to what kind of headphones I should be looking in to or I might want to keep in mind while I'm looking?
  11. "A reason I'm just needlessly answering questions here as if I'm some attention-seeking, 19 year-old loony that just wants public acknowledgement? I'm a bit tied up in university at the moment. If it's possible to afford a small apartment in that area with utilities [does internet count as a utility at this point?] included on whatever base pay you're thinking of, I'd definitely consider relocating, but not until at least until the semester is over. ...but yeah, if you guys are still looking when the semester closes in, I'd definitely throw my hat in the ring."
  12. I actually found something a while back that I always thought might interest the more tech-y kinds of people... Hold on, I remember it's somewhere in the F1 website's online store... Ah, here it is. A Pirelli (the company that provides the tyres for Formula 1 racing) backpack... equipped with a solar panel and charging station for all your little do-dads. I always wondered how it'd work. I wonder if Linus would consider doing a review/overview at some point... http://f1store.formula1.com/stores/f1/products/product_details.aspx?pid=117399
  13. Well, I have basic (read: very basic, as in Windows Movie Maker basic) editing skills... but I am more familiar with music and sound effects. Never had the chance to work with fancy cameras or lighting... Script Writing. Well, that's in the bag. If there's one thing I'm confident in above all else, it's my notable grasp of the English language. Production and direction consists of things I'm capable of, although I may need a refresher in the "authorizations and whatnot" section. Not too sure about how Canada handles liability and wavers and such. I'm an impressive and confident public speaker... I'm not just nearly as photogenic as you or Slick... I wouldn't describe my troubleshooting skills as excellent (unless Google-aided trouble-shooting counts), but I can work Excel and if you want detail oriented, I can annoy the hell out you with my attention to detail. Quick Learner? Got it. Independent worker? Got it. Good sense of humor? I'd like to think so. Some people really love it. Some people aren't amused. Go figure. Initiative taker? My experience in the American Education system has instilled within me a rather deep-seated fear of taking initiative and thinking for myself. I might be able to manage, though. Good time management? Eh. Decent enough time management but nothing you could call anal or on the ball or whatever. Motivated? Sure. Who wouldn't be at an opportunity like this? Hard worker? Yup. Good Communicator? That's one of my best traits. Passion for technology? I think everyone here meets that criteria. A reason I'm just needlessly answering questions here as if I'm some attention-seeking, 19 year-old loony that just wants public acknowledgement? I'm a bit tied up in university at the moment. If it's possible to afford a small apartment in that area with utilities [does internet count as a utility at this point?] included on whatever base pay you're thinking of, I'd definitely consider relocating, but not until at least until the semester is over. ...but yeah, if you guys are still looking when the semester closes in, I'd definitely throw my hat in the ring.
