  1. I'm no master but I'd say the thermal paste has been placed incorrectly, you only really need about a pea sized blob in the middle of the CPU. Also on your new cooler did you take off the little sticker on the bottom of it?
  2. Well start up for me doesn't take long at all, and sleep still consumes power doesn't it?
  3. This. There's litlle point keeping a PC turned on for the sake of it if it's not doing anything.
  4. Ok, so I seem to have solved this.... There's an FAQ on the XFX website which makes mention of 5700 XT Thicc fans not spinning. It recommends using either driver 19.9.3 or 19.8.2. It makes mention that if you're using The 19.9.1 and 19.9.2 that can cause problems, even though I was using a a more modern driver the problem seems to have persisted. I DDUed my current drivers and installed 19.9.3 which seems to have corrected the problem, I have full control of the fans in Afterburner now, and can set them to any fan curve which seems to respond accordingly. I can also set them to spin at any % if I want too.
  5. Clicking auto just lets me choose the fan speed % but doesn't alter the fan speed, they are still unresponsive.
  6. Yeah, I have a custom fan curve, I'll attach an image. I will state that even though in the main part of Afterburner it's showing a % of fan speed but the fans are not active, only in game, or at least in one game I've tried. I have a terible short term memory but I think this morning I installed the drivers/Radeon Software, I'm certain Wattman didn't install at the same time. Infact I don't know what watman is, I assume it's the AMD equivelent of Afterburner?
  7. All three fans ramp up when I'm in a game, so they definitely work; it just seems as though I have no control over them in Afterburner
  8. Hi all, So as the title. My GPU is an XFX 5700 XT Thicc III, and when I try alter the fan curve in MSI Afterburner nothing is happening. I've had a google and it seems like this is a more widespread issue with 5700 XTs; however I cannot find a solution apart from a BIOS update which I'd rather not do, as I don't want to accidentally brick the card. So is there any solutions? If I have to change software to something else then that would be fine, but ideally I'd like to sitck with Afterburner. Finally, everything is new and fully updated (apart from maybe the BIOS) Specs are: Ryzen 5 2600 MSI B450M-A Pro Max 16GB Corsair Vengance LPX 3000mhz (2x 8GB) XFX 5700 XT Thicc III Win10 Home
  9. I didn't think to check BIOS or disk management. I'll have a look and get back to you
  10. +1 for Papers, Please FTL Stardew Valley Neo Scavenger Darkest Dungeon
  11. Basically as the title says, but I'll give some info My old MB from 2008 suffered from battery swell so I've safely removed and disposed of it. Now instead of getting a new battery for it as the laptop is running quite slow I thought I'd see if I could plug the drive into my desktop format it and use it as extra storage, unfortunately once it's plugged in and I've booted win10 it's not showing up at all. Is there a way to get it to show up to format it? I'm not bothered by the data on it, so if I lose that I lose that. Thanks in advance.
  12. utterly pointless thread, but define 'winning'
  13. I know how to set it all up if it were to be my streaming machine, so all good there! Is OCing mobo dependent? I'm not sure what motherboard my neighbour is giving me just yet, and having never OCed before do you recommend any guides on it?
  14. Heroes of the Storm is free to play and fairly fun.
  15. My neighbour has just given me a Q6600, he's apparently going to be dropping off a mobo and other things for it soon. Having a look on the intel website the Q6600 is just over a decade old. What could I use a machine running a Q6600 for? For clarity I'm running an i5 2400 in my main machine so that's better; I've recently started streaming, so would the Q6600 work as a dedicated streaming machine taking some of the weight off the i5 2400, or should I just end up using it as something like a media player in the living room?
