  1. Where I live (Ontario Canada), the RX 5700 XT is on par or in some cases cheaper than an RTX 2060 Super. I am aware the 5700XT out performs the RTX 2060 Super in games, however, AMDs driver issues are making me lean towards green side. The games I currently play include: LoL, CS GO, Valorant, OW, BF4/V, Division 2, CODMW. All at 1440p 75hz (although that may change to 1080p 144hz in the future) Programs I also use: Solidworks (I'm an engineering student), Adobe Premiere/Davinci Resolve, Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop (photo and video editing are merely a hobby however I can appreciate a stable experience in said programs), casual game streaming on OBS. Planning on running on a 3700x or the gen 4 successor if I decide to wait that long...Although quarantine is driving me crazy right now gaming on this ultrabook...so we'll see. I have also been considering stepping down to a 5700 because it's cheaper and the games I play aren't that demanding anyway....but those drivers I'm still not comfortable dealing with if that is still a problem. I've read countless problems with these two AMD cards and the games I play so I'm just asking if it's worth just getting the RTX 2060S that I know wont give me problems. I could also benefit from the GPU acceleration in the programs I use.
  2. Fair..lol Should I also wait for Zen 2?
  3. What about a GTX 1070? There's one on newegg right now for ~$450 https://www.newegg.ca/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-gv-n1070wf3-8gd/p/N82E16814932146?Description=gtx 1070&cm_re=gtx_1070-_-14-932-146-_-Product

Then I realized the RTX 2060 might not be the best card. Great gaming card but I wont need that much performance for the games play. Some SPECviewperf benchmarks I saw, the RX 580/590 destroyed most of the GTX and RTX cards, and it's cheaper, so now I'm conflicted. I just want a final answer since I'm not sure if VP benchmarks are even what I should be looking at for my use case.
  5. just the tower but I really don't want to spend that much if possible
  6. I'm an engineering student and my current laptop can't really run any of the even basic models in NX and Solidworks. I will be doing nodal analysis in the future along with more complex assemblies and parts so I'm planning on building a new computer. I'm hoping this would last me a very long time; something I can use when I'm well versed as a full time engineer. Originally I was going to pick up a new laptop with an eGPU, but it turned out to be way too pricey so I'd rather just build a new PC and do work from home. My budget for the build is no more than $2000 CAD, I currently run everything on 1080p, however I do plan on picking up an affordable 4k monitor down the line. So far, the heart of my system will be an i7 9700k with 16 or 32gb of RAM. Also to note, I do play some games, including LoL, CSGO, Fortnite, OW, Apex, basically anything mainstream and big in the esports scene. However, gaming performance is not a concern for me since I'll be playing all of those at 1080p anyway, and I know whichever card I pick, I'll get over 60fps (I don't mind tuning down the settings). I also do work in photoshop and lightroom (hence why I plan on picking up a 4k monitor) and the occasionally work in premiere (just for fun, nothing professional). The title only includes the RTX 2060 and RX 580, but I'm also open to any other potential cards. I was looking into quadros, but being I do plan on playing some games, I don't think that would be the best choice. From what I've seen, the RX 580 seems to be the best option and also the cheapest. While price isn't really a concern, I'd like to spend less than $500 CAD on the GPU. I don't think getting an RTX 2070 for example would be much benefit to me. Thank you in advance.
  7. Hello all, So I'm planning on buying my first ANC cans and just still deciding between the QC35 IIs and the Sony MX3s. Both are great options I'm well aware and I'm sure I'll be happy with both. However, that is not the point of this thread. I am wondering if I should just buy one right now, or wait a bit until either Bose comes out with QC35 IIIs or Sony brings out a refresh. I'm not sure if either companies are planning to or not, which is why I'm making this thread. Just as some background in case anyone wants to guide me in a completely different direction: I'm coming from a pair of HD 598 (open) which I only use at home and Jaybird X3s which I use for everything else (school, travel, gym, etc.). I'm looking for something with a bit more isolation than my X3s (I don't think anything will beat their sound quality. I've even tried the QC35 IIs next to my X3s and the Bose do not compare IMO) when I'm studying at school as well as something more comfortable and with a better battery life. Let me know what you guys think.
  8. Yeah the port has a 5 pin slot on the far right, so it should fit an NVMe drive. I'm just worried it wont support the speed.
  9. I can't seem to find any information online if it can or not. I have: Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-36NK I took it apart and the port looks like it can fit an M.2 NVMe drive no problem. However, I'm not sure if it actually supports it.
  10. I'm running games such as Fornite, Overwatch, LoL, etc. at 1080p.
  11. Why no performance upgrade? You think my CPU will bottle neck it?
  12. Here my current set up: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Stock AMD CPU Cooler Asus M4A88TD-M/USB3 1x generic 2GB stick of ram 1x Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600 HIS Radeon HD 7790 2GB Coolermaster RS-650 PCAR-E3 650W I'm looking at used GTX 960s and I think I found one. It's a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 960 2gb. Before I jump the gun...Would there be any reason it wouldn't work with my system? My PSU has enough connectors, so that's out of the question.
  13. Any alternatives to the PSU I chose? Also the used market isn't very good where I am.
  14. After having my current PC for almost 6 years now, I think it's time to upgrade. I'm calling this rendition Prototype 1 because it may change and I don't plan on actually buying anything for awhile. Budget and Location MAX $1500 CAD with tax and shipping (would like to stay under though). I live in Ontario, Canada and everything I'll be buying will be using CAD. Don't even mention buying parts across the border. Aim I'll be doing pretty much everything on here. Light gaming (I don't play any AAA games; only eSports titles i.e. LoL, OW, Fortnite), streaming, recording while gaming, amateur photo/video editing, probably some CAD and 3D work (I'm a first year engineering student so I'm assuming I'll be doing 3D stuff and CAD work in the future), I like to multi-task a lot. Basically I don't want it to be any slower at anything I do than my current setup. I want this to be an upgrade in every aspect, not just some. Monitors I run two monitors, both 1080p 60hz. I don't want any hiccups using my second monitor while gaming or whatever. Peripherals No need for anything new. No OS needed as well. Why are you upgrading? It's old. On paper, it's a perfectly fine computer. Runs everything I want today OKAY. Just want a fresh start/something new. Going to be working all summer so I might treat myself with this. I've heard a lot of toss ups between different B350 motherboards so I would like some input. Wont be overclocking and if I do it'll be very light. Just want a mobo that has good sound, ethernet, and reliability. I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you in advance.
  15. Also...Am I the only one who experiences problems with the thermal paste AMD provides on their coolers? I've ripped out the CPU out of its socket countless times trying to remove the cooler. This has happened with my old 1055t and now this.
