  1. MSI, only because I personally own one and can say mine runs pretty cool. Though I don't really have any experience with the XFX so can't really say for sure which is the better for cooling.
  2. It's good too see people backing up their opinions with facts.... Oh wait... "Corsairs shit, because I've had corsair products and I didn't like it and and and, it failed. So yeah, all corsair products are shit, but I'm not going to present any data to back any of this up." <_< Utter conjecture. Corsair have been rated time and time again, one of the top companies when it comes to RMA. If they're offering to pay for 50% of any damage, i'd say that's a pretty decent offer.
  3. Sounds like a RAT. An depending on how FUD it is and where they've decide to make it execute/store itself, who knows. They can't spoof file associations, so they use shit like .scr as if you don't check it properly, you can mistake it for a picture. You click it and boom, it executes itself and gives remote access to someone else. It essentially just let's them listen on certain ports and grants them access. They can view your desktop, copy your files, turn your webcam on.... do essentially anything. It's how they steal steam accs and do all sorts of shady business. As far as I'm aware, norton is pretty crappy at detecting RATs.
  4. I think it's pretty nice looking, would go well with alot of ASUS ROG gaming boards. I have the Asus Maximus VII Formula and this card would match up really well. An with the inbuilt watercooling of the card and the VRM water cooling on the board, would make it pretty damn easy with a cpu water block, pump, res, rad, tubing and fittings, to make a custom loop without much hassle.
  5. A few people have hit the nail on the head. AMD CPUs create more heat due to higher TDPs, though due to the IHS being soldered to the die, they get better contact from the die>ihs>cooler. So are able to dissipate more heat. Intel CPUs even though having lower TDPs and creating less heat, due to the IHS being siliconed to the PCB with a layer of cheap TIM from the die > ihs, they suck at dissipating heat as there isn't adequate contact from the die>ihs>cooler. Though at the same time, intel CPUs have a higher temperature threshold and AMD CPUs are known for not being 100% accurate when it comes to temperature readings. Essentially, when in a system with a cooler and being monitored, intel cpus will be hotter. An don't have much thermal headroom when it comes to OC unlike AMD cpus. Which is why a fraction of people choose to delid their CPUs. So when people use the argument, "oh you've got an AMD cpu, good luck cooling it", it's pretty ridiculous. I've owned both Intel and AMD. I had a FX9590 oc to 5.2Ghz and it never went past 60-odd celsisus. If I push my 4790k over say 4.6-4.7ghz, my temps sky rocket up past 80c. An that's both watercooled. So to answer your question OP, unfortunately the dudes right, Intel CPUs for all intensive purposes and taking everything into consideration. When they're in a system, it will run hotter than an AMD cpu.
  6. It sounds like the bootable OS USB you made is corrupt. You need to make a new one, at this point given your situation, from a different computer. These are your options. Startup repair System recovery safe mode/CMD (bcdedit) to find the issue and try fix it via cmd. Safe mode may not boot, but it should still let you use CMD in the recovery portion. If that fails, use a copy of windows to do a system repair. If that fails, use a copy of windows to do a new install (choose keep personal files). If they don't work, use your drive in a different computer to do the two options above. If that doesn't work, use a different computer with an OS installed on a different drive. Use your drive as a non-boot drive. Recover all personal files, format it and reinstall a clean copy of windows.
  7. Mine was around 10yrs ago, I was, I think 14 or so. I was at a School Dance, (a lot less grand than an American proms). I was in the car park with a lass and her friend. We were generally being silly. Her friend was like, "kiss her".... so I kissed her. At the time, I was a giddy little dude, first kiss 'n' all. Now it seems like a very distant memory. Going from a little boy, to a monkey haired man. Crazy times.
  8. between the two, considering no other factors and not doing the whole, "I know you said between these two cpus, but il tell you i5" fx6300.
  9. As far as I'm aware, the only formula board for the Z97 chipset is the Maximus VII Formula. An yes they're still being sold as far as I'm aware. At least they are here in the uk. They have them on newegg(US), but they're out of stock. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132247&cm_re=asus_maximus_vii_formula-_-13-132-247-_-Product
  10. Have you turned off Intel speedstep? edit: i see you found it was thermal throttling. Was tldr, sorry.
  11. Idle temps don't mean a whole lot, more times than not, they'll hover around ambient temps. An if you aren't using your cpu, no matter how much you've oc'ed, there will be maybe a couple of degrees difference. Your room is 24c and your cpu is 30c. It's about standard.
  12. Dude, play it smooth. If you go in gunhoe with the, 'I like yous', you might freak her. Get her number if you don't already have it, do some flirting in person and on the phone. Then after a week or two, when you know she's giving you, 'dem signals', just ask her out on a date. Be yourself, compliment her, do something you'll think she'll enjoy where you can talk. See where it goes.
