Size (Length) of the card is not stated on the couple of reports i have flicked through. A Poseidon variant was also released which looks strikingly similar to all their other Poseidon cards. 4. So i was casually browsing Newegg when: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2JX2FA1513&cm_re=usb_3.1-_-9SIA2JX2FA1513-_-Product The link should explain it all. (yes, I realize that it's USB 3.1 + type C : still surprised me though )
  5. This video probably sums up all of Linus's intentions in his choice of footwear . Absolutely Incredible though: Cant deny that!
  6. Sounds about right for a school.. I know most schools in Australia - high schools especially have a decent fiber connection.. Weather or not the network is correctly configured is a different matter
  7. My internet on a good day! Not uncommon to see the upload below 0.5 Mbps and Download below 5 Mbps. No NBN (National Broardband Network) connection for me though! Yet.....
  8. If you check out the specs for these: [850 Evo] - http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/downloads/document/Samsung_SSD_850_EVO_Data_Sheet_rev_1_0.pdf [850 Pro] - http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/downloads/document/Samsung_SSD_850_PRO_Data_Sheet_rev_1_0.pdf You'll notice that there is a difference in controllers. The lower capacity EVOs use the MGX while the 1 TB model used the MEX - similar to the Pro's "3 Core" MEX controller. From the datasheets though, i would say the 850 Pro's controller is slightly better, perhaps to handle slightly different storage algorithms. NAND according to the sheets linked is the same: 32 bit Vertical NAND. MTBF (mean time between failures) is also greater on the PRO making me think there is extra firmware management being down behind the scenes. The resulting warranty difference as a result of this supposed better firmware would contribute to cost difference. I also noticed the 4K random writes at a 32QD is slightly better on the Pro - so most likely some better firmware / controller tech. As far as differences go, I've got 2 850 Pros in my PC, and one 850 EVO in a laptop. Both are great performers - i haven't really noticed many differences.
  9. Good evening, I'm currently running 2 850 PRO 256 GB drives in software raid 0 on my x99-e WS. Due to bios errors and overclocking fiddleings, i have already accidentally lost the array once (#Idiot). I was wondering if: 1) anyone thinks there would be a point in adding a hardware raid solution to run these two drives, which would mean the array is independent of the bios thus it cant be affected by any changes / mistakes there. and 2) which raid cards would you recommend - if possible: link to your suggestions and provide some brief (or in-depth?) reasoning as to your choice/s. side note: I do have a budget, so nothing too extreme please also, i can't see myself expanding the array past 4 drives (if at all.) Cheers, Bones
  10. I'm planning on building a new PC using the x99 platform. My dilemma is in regards to the graphics card I should use. In Australia, a reference GTX 980 goes for around $780 (ish) where as the ASUS STRIX 980 Retails for around $870. Which of these should I go with? Should I grab a reference 980 with the intensions of water-cooling it later, or should I go with thru ASUS STRIX 980 and be done with it. Any on topic advice with reasons and explanation is appreciated. Thanks!
