  1. The earliest game I can remember playing on PC was Mixed Up Mother Goose. Ahh those sweet sweet dulcet tunes.
  2. I have a Hero IX board, but my brother is looking at the Strix Z270 board. Looking at the Hero IX manual it says: So I'm guessing that it only disables SATA ports if your m.2 SSD controller is SATA and not NVME (i.e. PCIE).
  3. Dumb question, but it's been awhile since I've build a new rig (2011), and the few videos and searches I did didn't really give me a clear answer. If you use a m.2 SSD and the motherboard specs says that using the m.2 slot will disable 1-2 SATA ports...does that mean it disables the SATA ports regardless of the SSD controller used by the SSD, or just if it's a SATA m.2 SSD? This is for a motherboard that supports NVME and SATA SSDs on the m.2 port of course. Yeah...really dumb question, but I just kinda wanted a concrete answer. Pretty sure the answer is that it'll only disable the SATA ports if you use a m.2 SATA SSD. But like I said, it's been awhile.
  4. It's real faint, but if you know it's there, you'll see it all the time. Kind of like having dust on your screen. Open it up on the gfy page (it's too small to really see in the LTT forums embed) and look at the darker pixels in that light blue area inside the red square. They exist in the 144Hz mode, but not in the 60Hz mode.
  5. Don't think so. It's prevalent in games, movies, and standard wallpapers. I just only noticed it when I had the live wallpaper because it was a slightly moving image, so the texture began to stand out.
  6. It's not new, it'd be a warranty. Not 100% sure, but I think I foot the bill for shipping. No, it's Displayport. The other displayport cables I have that work fine on 144Hz 1440p Dell monitors have been tested on this monitor, so I'm fairly sure it's not a faulty cable issue.

  8. So I really don't know what to call this, and I'm not sure when it started or if it was there to begin with. But I started using a live (animated) wallpaper and began to notice a weird 'texture' on my monitor. It's almost like a grainy paper texture, so light that I only noticed it because the wallpaper has a lighter spot in the middle that slowly bobs up and down, so you can see the texture is on the monitor and not on the video playing in the background. It's also prevalent in games, movies, et cetera. However, when I swap the monitor from 144Hz to 60Hz, it goes away entirely. This thing is still under warranty (3 years), but I'm not sure exactly how to describe the problem, what could cause it, et cetera. I tried taking pictures, but the effect is so light that it was virtually impossible to get a good picture of it. I was, however, able to get a video of it by pointing my camera and zooming in real close so you can see the variation in pixel colors.. It starts in 144Hz, swaps to 60Hz after a refresh, and when the video ends it'll repeat the gfy, so you can easily see the difference. I'd recommend opening up the gfy and looking at the lighter blue spot in the red square. You'll see weird little dark spots at 144Hz (the texture I spoke of), but not at 60Hz. Any ideas of what's going on? I don't think anyone who would sit down at my computer would notice it. But now that I know it's there, I see it all the time.
  9. Cool, thanks for the prompt responses. I thought it'd be fine too, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.
  10. Planning on building a new Kaby Lake rig (7700k, Hero IX, single 980Ti) to 'retire' my older 2600k build. Was just going to put the current PSU, Corsair HX750, in the new build for a year or so until I can find a good deal on a new PSU. The Corsair hasn't shown any signs of problems whatsoever, it's just getting up there in years (purchased 2011) and has been used in a build that has been on for virtually all of it's lifetime. Shouldn't be a problem, right?
  11. Kind of let down by this, but not wholly surprised. Been looking for a new CPU for my 980Ti and was hoping that the 7700k would have more surprises up its sleeve. Gonna wait for Ryzen to drop to see if prices drop (hah), but I still might get this just because I'm tired of my CPU heavy games starting to chug (relatively), want to get nvme M.2 storage, PCI-E 3.0, and just kinda retire my old P68 board. Just kinda sucks to 'upgrade' from a CPU I absolutely love (2600k) to something I'm really meh about (7700k). Or maybe I'll just sell my 980Ti (I have a perspective buyer) and put that towards a 1080Ti....or just buy some other fun stuff (Mtg, another 27" 1440p monitor, stuff for my car).
  12. Major props on sticking by Dennis' side, LMG. Very standup of you guys for going that extra mile. And as someone who considers himself a huge fan of documentation, organization, and logistics...a round of applause to Yvonne!
  13. I got curious as to where this actually was and was kinda surprised that you can do a google map tour of the place. Wish this was closer, I'm always looking for a place to play board games that didn't feel like a hole in the wall. I sold all my Mtg cards in 2005 for nearly 2k (just the rares/uncommons. Gave the commons/lands away to a youth center), but seeing something this nice makes me want to get back into the game...I need to call my MtG anonymous sponsor...
  14. Ah cool, glad it's working. I still hope they can optimize it more, but I'm kind of resigned to it being what it is now. Thanks for the update!
  15. Seems like a fairly common problem, though I haven't experienced it in the 100+ hours I've played. But I haven't really played it since March and since then, a ton of DLC has been added to the game. And the mods I used were mostly just voice packs and minor UI changes. But yeah, just refund it. XCom 2 has, unfortunately, been a bit of a letdown due to how unoptimized and buggy it was.
