  1. X99 is a backup choice and the board is sorted. Just in the worst case wondering if anyone is aware of where I could find a 5820k for more £200~
  2. Hey guys - recently starting to plan new university build. Aiming to build quite a powerhouse but a stable one. Value is key though as i'm a British student. I found the xeon e5 series for the LGA 2011 platform to be amazing value on ebay. Plus I have a p9x79-Ws at home which can test this whilst i'm still here for the next couple of weeks. But I can't find an lga-2011 motherboard for good value whatsoever - I looked all over ebay and amazon unfortunately was no help either. I have found a couple of candidates on Alibaba - but is Alibaba safe to buy from for C612/ X79 motherboards? If not does anyone have any suggestions or is willing to sell for a reasonable price? In the worst case does anyone have any place I could find a cheap 2011-3 cpu because I can get hold of an x99 motherboard on the cheap. Thank you so much for reading this, sorry for the diatribe.
  3. Obviously i'm going to rip the 5820k apart and use it for modern art... Just kidding - i'd throw it in my new liquid cooled system (build log to come) and upgrade to ddr4 and x99. New 420mm and 240mm radiator should keep this beast of a cpu cool
  4. It needs a h440 style shroud to cover the power supply and the cables- so please do add it - it would make the rig look so much nicer (Don't forget to allow for the psu to breath in the shroud so don't cover the fan) Otherwise it's amazing but heck i've seen it in person
  5. I'm thinking: Gtx 780ti for me and an asus pro arts monitor *I self indulge ok!* My mum - Asus vangaurd b85 as it's one of the first parts for an upgrade to her awful rig *Mac pro 2006* My Dad - Asus zenbook he works in construction and needs something that won't die uber easily and is good on the go as he never uses computers for anything hardware intensive. My sister - Phonepad she loves her tablet and her phone - WHY NOT BOTH >
  6. I kinda got inspired from that video ! I'm just a bit worried in case the wifi nics don't work? They have horrific documentation on which drivers work for wifi cards but then again there aren't really server grade wifi cards around were as there are ethernet Thank you for your reply though
  7. Hello world, I've just spec'd up my own pf sense router and I was wondering what you guys think I'm trying to keep it on a small ish budget and I have the power supply and case sorted. I was wondering should I build my own pf-sense router as I need a new one but at any rate these are my current specs. Mobo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB... SSD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD... CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP... RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY... 2x wifi card; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW... 1 x Nic for me: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-NC360T-Dual-Port-Gigabit-N... So yes if you have experience with pf sense and notice a gaping flaw in my rig or just feel pf sense is a bad idea please say. I want an exceedingly fast router which I can tweak and make sure it's working the way I want it to. At any rate thank you for reading and leave any thoughts below. -Conor W
  8. Well, he is on a budget, just speced one up using a GTX 670 and a 4670k with 8gb of ram and a nice little noctua cooler, as said its all on a tight budget of 800 pounds if asked ill list the entire spec :)
  9. Well, that's good and it means I have one option solved however will it outperform the high end hardware of a gtx 770 - he's using archicad or that's what he called it :') but thanks for confirming that contender is an option :) - Conor
  10. Yeah only CAD, just worried about it having 1gb of gddr5 and way less cuda cores... Oh well I suppose there's a market of less for more :P
  11. Hello guys! The other day my dad asked me to build him a new CAD machine for his office, so I'm doing the normal thing of starting by creating a spec and pricing it all up :) However I have never really used "professional GPU's" and whilst looking through the QUADRO series I found that they had awful specifications on them - literally they're close to the 500 series in terms of specs. But, I know they have better drivers and due to that they gain a lot whilst working in CAD. As such would I be better putting a Gtx 770 as shown here- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-219-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750 or an Nvidia quadro 2000D as shown here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-031-PN&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2410. Quick note , this is for autocad 2013 as from what I have found on their website they like dealing with Hp etc so they only list compatible options inside specific pc's. Other specs I'm going for are 8gb of ddr3 1600mhz ram Intel 4670k, 4 logical cores with hyperthreading And an asus z87m motherboard. So TLDR: Quadro 2000d vs gtx 770 for autocad:2013 Will a gtx 770 run and if so will it have the drivers to compete with the lesser hardware? So in conclusion any help or input is appreciated, not in some rush here however sooner is better. Have a nice day, Conor
  12. "Ps4 will own your awful pc" ps4 uses apu - pc has gtx 660 ti clear logic is being used >_<
  13. Please Asus add this for my p9x79 pro I'd happily pay 25 quid for it D:
  14. Meh a bit annoying, what's worse Is friends expecting you to do miracles for their cash- the other day I had a friend that wanted a gaming laptop to run dx11 games on medium graphics for 300 quid so I know your frustrations when you get asked this annoying stuff :p
