  1. look for used enterprise gear such as Dell PowerEdge on Ebay
  2. 3 drives are needed for parity tolerating 1 drive failure, 7 drives are needed for parity tolerating 2 drive failures without permanent data loss. You can also Czech out these threads where people have successfully created tiered storage spaces, using an SSD to boost the performance of their pools:
  3. If you try to set up a RAID1 for the OS on the new PC, and use the old RAID1 drives, the setup will wipe all the data on those drives permanently, so make sure you back up everything important before that.
  4. It's better if you do a clean install, but the RAID1 transfer should work - done it with both purely data drive and OS install, but didn't try booting. It will show up as a normal drive. If you put both those drives into a new system ,Windows will put one offline due to hardware signature conflict error, but it can still be activated and mapped. RAID0 transfer will not work. You need to backup or offload the data, then you dismantle the array. Anything left on the RAID0 array will be lost PERMANENTLY. My recommendation is to clean install a new copy of Windows on the new PC, but if you need one of the RAID1 drives for that the other will remain intact as long as there isn't a catastrophic hardware failure - physical damage to the drive.
  5. combined capacity & performance / price, best to worst Corsair MP510 ADATA XPG Kingston KC2000 Intel 660p
  6. You can also set it up as parity and possibly get up to 8TB of usable capacity (right @leadeater?) Most likely you will need to offload the data first
  7. Hi! How much storage do you use now and how much do you project to need after the expansion? Do you want to use this archive for computer backups as well? Your best course of action is probably getting an off the shelf 4 slot NAS box from a reputable brand such as Synology or QNAP, either with hard drives installed or buying appropriate capacity separately, and configuring it to something like RAID5 with hot spare or RAID6. It will be much faster and more reliable than just a single drive. You could get a single drive to backup the NAS off-site.
  8. Yes Freesync in that monitor will sync up FPS and refresh rate between 48-144Hz, and that RX5700XT should be more than enough for smooth 1440p 60FPS. So in the future you can buy a faster new card and the monitor will still be good
  9. For example video editing and working with large databases - you'll probably find out in time that you need more Ram, but then you can get additional identical kit and put it into the remaining 2 slots on the motherboard. 10. 1. not that I know. it's more about the speed of the processor - Adobe Premiere will be better on Intel because those chips have higher frequency, pretty much everything else in rendering, compiling, and gaming will be same or better on Ryzen right now. 2. it's typically better to buy the best you can at the time and upgrade over time - for example you can get a faster gpu in 2 years etc. The only thing that would be worth changing is getting 32GB of RAM, but only if your workload is RAM intensive.
  11. it has a newer version with USB-C and tempered glass side panel. it can handle an aio on the top or front if you remove the drive cages. The Meshify S2 lacks sound dampening on the other side panels but the front allows for better ventilation.

  13. Fractal Design Define R6/S2/Meshify S2? depending on how many hard drives and sound dampening you want
  14. the cheapest option would probably be to stuff your current pc full of hard drives, combine them into a Windows parity Storage Space, and share that over the network, or using Plex to access it. How much hard drive space do you have in your case?
  15. I was petrified thinking that my new Aukey 26800 mAh power bank killed the data line on one of my laptop's Thunderbolt 3 ports but then I found this https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/USB-C-Thunderbolt-port-not-working/td-p/6601769

    It's working again!

  16. There's usually a second, slower D.O.C.P. profile loaded on the RAM, so try dropping down to that.
  17. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your advice I ultimately found a guy in my town who was selling a brand new, unopened 1TB 660p for 90€ (retail is 110€) so I went with that. Overkill? Yeah. Good value? Definitely. Appropriate for it's use case? We shall see.
  18. Won't help much if your face is a potato (or cactus)
  19. This. I've had glasses since like 10 and these days I just look "wrong" to myself without them. It's a part of me, of my visage. Even though they can be a b!tch to clean sometimes. I've had and still occasionally wear contact lenses but I only had daily ones, and even then I had some trouble with "additional veins forming in a corner of one eye due to air restriction of the lense". self-dimming glass lenses are freaking awesome. On my last pair I acutally got some new type that will dimm slightly even inside, and it's a godsend for driving and sitting in a sunny classroom. Plus people don't see where I look ?
  20. If it troubles you so much and if you think that the service you're getting from that business is worth full price then just don't use Honey there
  21. the Plus is newer but they're very similar, so feel free to go for the cheaper option. Also look at pricing for WD Black, Seagate Firecuda 510, Corsair MP510 and Intel 660p
  22. This board doesn't have BIOS Flashback AFAIK, but the B450 version does. You need to update the BIOS in order to make the CPU work with that motherboard. ok good ? In that case enjoy your new PC!
