  1. Hello, all! I'm thinking about enrolling in a coding boot camp in my area at the end of the summer (10-week course) in order to change careers to web/software development by 2018. I'm currently working at a management consulting firm on a federal healthcare contract- not at all related to programming. Here is the course I'm looking at. I want to learn more about people's experiences with these boot camps, and of course the LTT forums were my go-to. So what experiences have you had with these boot camps? How effective did you find them? Did you enjoy the jobs you got after them? What sort of salary changes did you encounter after going through them? Any and all feedback is welcome!
  2. Currently rocking the CM Storm Quickfire TK with Cherry MX Browns. Could really go for a full RGB keyboard.
  3. Whit Kova! Would work with my white/black build
  4. Awesome sponsorship with XSplit, guys! I've just set up my dream (budget-ish) rig and want to get a stable gaming stream going. Keep up the great work with the videos.
  5. The Quickfire combined the arrow keys with the numpad to save space. It's still nice and compact. I have that with the brown switches and the white LEDs. So pleased with it.
  6. I have used both of them extensively. I bought the G600 last Christmas and used it for a month before exchanging it for the 2014 edition Naga. The G600 is considerably larger than the Naga. If you have large hangs, the G600 would probably be better for you. The G600 also includes a third mouse click button where your ring finger rests that is very sensitive. That was actually the largest drawback for me. It was constantly clicking whenever I applied any force to press the 12 side-buttons. It hindered my gameplay and was annoying to hear, especially during the incessant accidental clicks when moving the mouse around (and I don't even have a tight grip) I switched to the Naga and was instantly satisfied. My only regret is that I got the normal 2014 edition and not the Chroma. I'd love for it to have white light to match my keyboard instead of the default green. In my opinion, go for the Naga, the 2014 Chroma version if you can afford it.
  7. I have the MSI 970. I'm not here to fanboy Nvidia or hate on AMD. My experience with the card has been solid. I play FFXIV and WoW at max settings 60fps 1080p. Both could easily maintain 75fps but my monitors are 60Hz. Witcher 3 maintains 60fps with a few settings not set at max. I'm a big fan of the MSI models in general just because of their near-silent operation. Other cards I've used or seen can get quite loud.
  8. I know some people who pirate movies. They've always made the argument that if they would pay to see a movie, they will. The only movies they pirate are the ones that they wouldn't pay to see unless you count Amazon Prime or Netflix. Not sure if that's the case for others
  9. So begins my documentation of my build log. I've had a pretty nice rig in terms of internals since the summer but I've decided to bring in the new year and celebrate my new job with a series of aesthetic upgrades. My current rig: Raidmax ATX Mid-tower Blue/Black case Intel Core i7 4790k MSI GTX 970 (normal edition- red/black) 16GB (2x8) of plain, uncovered RAM NZXT Sentry Mix 2 fan controller Hyper 212 EVO with a Corsair AF120 white LEDs 4 Corsair AF120 with white LEDs for case fans and 1 AF140 with white LEDs CX-600 PSU Asus Z97-A motherboard Two Samsung SSDs Here's a picture of the current rig: Changes incoming (all paint with white plasti dip) White Corsair Air 540 case Two Akust aftermarket black ramsinks (seen in the recent live build) with everyone on them but the logo strip painted white The only LED corsair AF120 remaining will be the one on the Hyper 212 (using included 140mm case fans) The edge of the Hyper 212 facing outward will be painted white NZXT 2-meter white LED strip going all around the case The red parts of the MSI graphics card will be painted white To save money, I'm going to paint my cables white. Maybe I'll buy white sleeved cables next Christmas Silverstone sound dampening foam applied to the top vent instead of fans or an empty opening Painting the gold heatsinks on the motherboard white SSDs will be painted white except for the area around the Samsung logo in the middle
  10. I bought a CM Storm Quickfire TK a year ago and am so pleased with what I received. The MX Browns were definitely more silent than the Blues but I didn't want to disturb my roommate too much so I added some o-rings. White LEDs go perfectly with my white/black PC build.
  11. I currently have a 256GB SSD as my boot drive with all of my programs and games on it. 500GB 2.5inch HDD is my storage drive. I have an extra 500GB HDD lying around that I'd like to set up as a backup drive using RAID 1 but I don't know if that's possible with my setup. Two questions: Is it possible to do a RAID 1 setup like this? If it is possible, would the 756GB to 500GB storage space cause issues? I plan on keeping the actual space used under 500GB total. Alternatively, I could just back up my storage drive and deal with reinstalling all my programs should my boot drive fail (has only ever happened to me with a Mac). Can you do RAID 1 with just a storage drive and a backup drive?
  12. I was wondering if someone could provide me some sort of solution for this. I just ordered the Air 540 case to be delivered next week. With my setup, I'll only be using the three fans provided and one additional 120mm fan on my Hyper 212 EVO. The top of the case has room for two 140mm fans but I don't have any need for additional cooling. Instead, I was hoping to completely block out the top underneath the vent. I don't want to put something literally on top of the case, just underneath the vent. My goal is to slightly reduce noise from inside the case. I know it won't make much of a difference but I'd still like to try something. Just in case it's relevant to ideas people think of, I'm going for a pure white and black setup.
  13. I use the Razer Naga 2014 Edition. It's really more for MMOs (I play WoW and FFXIV) but it's honestly the best mouse I've ever used. The switches in the buttons make the clicks feel and sound amazing. Plus it's design is so incredibly comfortable. I tried the Logitech equivalent but it was very bulky and its extra button where your ring finger goes is way too sensitive. I've also been thinking about getting a Mionix Naos or Castor for work.
  14. I bought the CM Storm Quickfire TK mechanical keyboard last year with the Cherry MX Brown switches and white led backlights. It's absolutely wonderful. Only about $85 on Amazon. It has the numpad and arrow keys built into one so you don't lose anything but get that nice compactness.
