Ssshhh, you might trigger the PSU enthusiasts. :P

Almost as if researching the power supply means something.

Honestly I was kinda stunned that no one in their mind knew who the hell Great Wall was when I recognized it like *snap* that.

Are we talking old cx? Well. I'm not touching that.

I suppose I can confide in this thread thingy.

I think few people who are "PSU Enthusiasts" know anything there is about PSU design. Or electrical engineering in general. I have a slight background in electrical engineering since I had to take such courses in college. I mean, heck, one of the lab projects I had was to build a 20V AC into a three-rail system (I believe it was a constant 12V, constant 5V, and a variable up-to 5V). And while the components were basically given to us, we had to solve basic circuit design problems before we were allowed to start assembling parts of it together. I can cobble together a basic AC to DC circuit for you on a piece of napkin and not only explain what each area does, but how it does it and why certain phenomena happens.

Though I suppose my issue is that I know a good bit of theory of PSU and electrical engineering. But since I lean more towards software development, I haven't really put anything to practice.

I don't know, I feel like there's more to just understanding a PSU than knowing who made the caps, what numbers you need to look out for, etc. Like there's more to knowing about a car than its power output or a computer than what CPU it's packing.

It's like I don't consider someone a PC enthusiast just because they built their own computer.

That's one of the PSUs they seem to have made.

Now, I do believe the quality of the PSUs they make actually does vary based on what is necessary, so realistically, it doesn't seem like they're a bad OEM, they just do what the companies want them to do.

I always feel like there's a "knowledge tiering" that goes on with knowledge of computer components. At the bottom you have the people who literally know nothing and just buy whatever. Then there's the people that know "You should get a PSU from a reputable brand because apparently bad ones are bad". I feel all the bashing came from these people: they had no idea what "Great Wall" was and so assumed that the PSUs were absolute garbage. The funniest part is I even saw people acknowledging that Great Wall was an OEM behind PSUs like the TXM but they still claimed that this was a completely different Great Wall company even though the logo is the same, lol.

Now I'm tempted to buy a 2kW PSU from them, just for $#!t$ and giggles XD And to trigger some people :P

The funniest thing I think about the GN video is it feels like Steve Burke is 1. genuinely surprised and 2. trying his hardest to give an "impartial" opinion on it when his initial bias was probably "this is a garbage PSU, it's going to explode"

Well, I would be tier 2 then generally. Too much, but sometimes not enough

Was going to watch this tonight after work, but thanks for the TL:DR anyways. ;) I'll probably still watch it anyways.

If it's a group regulated unit, I still wouldn't trust it or use it.
