  1. So? You expect Apple to work for free? What's the point in spending billions in research and development if in the end they're forced to let competitors set the terms/pricing, Apple rightfully so should reap what they sowed. e.i App store created a billion dollar industry, in some form millions of jobs came from that.
  2. Ming Kuo is almost always spot on, this was rumored a year ago looks like it is really happening. Hopefully the ARM chips come close to Intels offerings.
  3. OnePlus can enter TV/PC/Top box market and succeed with their parent company BBK at their side. Xiaomi was dominating then BBK came along, they're growing like crazy in China/India. They have Oppo, Vivo, and Oneplus, I think they might even overtake Huawei.
  4. All those banned streamers on Twitch have one more option now, I wonder if they're going to add a 'IRL' section.
  5. It looks like it's going to be on the Samsung app store, and they'll have exclusivity for 1-120 days according to xda developers
  6. I'm on my phone right now, if someone wants make a thread in tech news.
  7. Epic Games CEO cites ‘economic efficiency’ of bypassing Play Store’s 30 percent cut Epic Games announced today that it will not distribute its massively popular game Fortnite on Android through Google’s Play Store marketplace. Instead, the company plans to directly distribute the software to players through the official Fortnite website, where Android users can download a Fortnite Installer program to install the game on compatible devices. The news confirms reports from earlier this week that Epic would bypass Google for the Android launch of the game. EPIC WOULD RATHER NOT GIVE GOOGLE 30 OF EVERY IN-APP PURCHASE The second reason is financial: Epic does not want to pay Google’s 30 percent cut, especially considering the entire game is funded through in-app purchases. “The 30 percent store tax is a high cost in a world where game developers’ 70 percent must cover all the cost of developing, operating, and supporting their games,” Sweeney says. “There’s a rationale for this on console where there’s enormous investment in hardware, often sold below cost, and marketing campaigns in broad partnership with publishers.” But on mobile platforms that are open, like Android, “30 percent is disproportionate to the cost of the services these stores perform, such as payment processing, download bandwidth, and customer service,” he says. Sweeney adds that Epic is “intimately familiar with these costs” from its direct distribution of Fortnite on Mac and PC. Fortnite on iOS made $15 million in its first three weeks on the market, so it’s reasonable to assume the mobile version of the game is a sizable source of revenue for Epic. Last month, the company also reduced the revenue cut it takes from developers who use its Unreal Engine software, in part because of the ongoing financial success of Fortnite. source: https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2018/8/3/17645982/epic-games-fortnite-android-version-bypass-google-play-store thoughts: I think it's stupid not to put it on the playstore, this move will certainty cause confusion for their users, I can already see kids downloading malware/rats/keyloggers.
  8. This isn't the first time, it's like the second or third time they usually go back and forth, In terms of revenue/proft Apple's a mile ahead. One issue Apple has is offering developing nations a low cost option, they've tried with the iPhone SE but they haven't updated it in some time. Samsung is at the #1 smartphone manufacturer spot, but the S9 didn't even sell 10 million units in Q2, they kept their spot because they offer so many low cost alternatives.
  9. Apple's definitely not selling the most smartphones compared to Samsung/Huawei but when it comes to profits, they're taking 50%+ of all industry smartphone profits each quarter.
  10. Huawei releases phones based on competitors rumors, they'll half ass a product and just release it just to be first.
  11. Month long exclusivity? Fornite is more popular than PUGB on iOS, PUGB is like 30 spots behind fornite in the IOS rankings so it could prove lucrative for them, but I doubt people are gonna buy the phone based on a game.
  12. Seems to be fixed now. https://www.macrumors.com/2018/07/24/throttling-fix-2018-macbook-pro-improvements/
  13. Expected, Affinity Serif has their foot at their neck. They're about to release Affinity Photo for the Mac, and other competing software. Adobe planned this, they decided to talk about the future release of P.S for iPad to dampen sales/hype of the newly released Affinity Designer Illustrator
  14. They're developing in house Micro-Led displays, but I don't think we'll see it until 2020.
