  1. Damn, wish I had waited a couple months to get my HE-400 s.
  2. First of all, don't get the soundsticks, they are a fashion accessory. For $100 you should go with headphones unless you are fine with getting used speakers. Look around on local classifieds for older speakers. I got a good deal on a pair of Mission MS-50s, $45. They are old, but they sound fantastic. Just remember if you get speakers, you will also need to get an amp unless the speakers you get are powered. To make it simpler: get headphones.
  3. My favorite thermal paste so far has also been the cheapest one. Its made by a company which makes the paste for large scale industrial applications, but they also sell 1.6g tubes for only $3. http://www.tim-consultants.com/matrix2.html I think I've have not replaced the TIM on my CPU in 3 years and temps are still the same as the day I applied it. You can also get 2KG tubs of it if you want to fill your tub with TIM...
  4. Hey guys! So I'm pretty happy with my PC right now, its not really up to date, but it has more than enough power for me and I don't really see myself upgrading in the next couple years. The only thing my PC is lacking is a SSD. I was looking at prices and they are already so much lower than a couple years ago when I was building my computer. I kinda want to get one right away, but I don't really NEED it ASAP if in the next few months there will be another price drop. Have the SSD prices stagnated or will they keep on going down? I'm looking to get a ~250GB SATA SSD, but those PCI SSDs are looking really awesome to me.
  5. Thanks for the info guys. I'm kind of wishing now that I saved up a bit more and bought the HE-400i instead. What about on the amplifier/DAC side of things. Is my Fiio E10 powerful enough to drive something like the 400is? I read that the higher end Hifimans require a ton of power. I really want to try a tube amp and see how they sound. I feel that the E10 makes everything sound a bit dark.
  6. I embedded mine into the bottom of my desk so it works pretty well for me. Don't use it too much now though because I'm always listening to music through the Fiio which is usb, and I can just use the PC 3.5 out for the speakers if I need to.
  7. I made my own switch pretty easily with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-Pin-3PDT-Toggle-Switch-Red-Panel-Mount-Type-ON-ON-/301574630816 I made my own after not really seeing too many for sale online. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can make one pretty easily. As for a headphone amp, I'm loving my Fiio E10. They released a new version a little while ago :http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1443770385&sr=8-6&keywords=headphone+amp This is probably the least you want to spend on an amp. This one has a DAC built in too because I'm guessing you are probably using your computers audio out right now.
  8. That would be awesome for compact builds. No need for those huge coolers. And if watercooling, the radiators could be smaller. I'm pretty happy with my current rig(except for my graphics card), but its too big and bulky. My next build will definitely be compact.
  9. Hey guys! So about a month and a half ago I finally upgrade from my 3 year old set of Sony MDR-V6s to the Hifiman-HE-400. At first I was kinda disappointed in the sound. It was not feeling that much "better" than my old headphones, but after a few days I started to recognize how much better they actually were. And now, I am 100% sure they are MUCH MUCH better than the V6s. I am so happy with the headphones and my old headphones are just collecting dust, they will probably be never used again(nice to have a backup pair though!). But now I am already looking at what else is out there and what I want to upgrade to next. My question is: Is there a point after which there is not much improvement in sound quality, but the price skyrockets? I'm having trouble imagining how much better sound can get than the HE-400. At $250 these were a really good buy in my opinion, but what about those headphones that go for around $600. Will I feel much of an improvement. I'm mainly looking at the rest of the Hifiman lineup since I like these headphones so much, but what else could be considered the next step after the HE-400. Thanks for the help! I'm also thinking of upgrading my DAC+Amp soon. I love the Fiio E10 I have, but I really want to try a tube amplifier.
  10. I hated my UE6000s. The sound was pretty awful in comparison to my MDR V6s. And I got those for much cheaper. The comfort was not that good either. The pads were pretty hard.
  11. The only reason I got my i7 was because I was not planning on building another computer in a longggg time. Might as well pay another $80 for an i7 in case I ever do anything CPU intensive in the future. Its nice to have the capability on hand.
  12. I used to be the same way. Changing the TIM like every two months. Then I decieded to not change it and see how long it will perform well for. I think I changed my TIM last time in 2013. Still working great!! I don't think I see a point of changing the TIM at all. I don't really care for a 3C increase in temps. The TIM is used was TIM Consultants Quantum. I contacted the company and they said their TIMs are rated for a minimum of 5 years.
  13. Hey guys, so recently I acquired a Western Digital My Cloud DL2000. But I have not been able to find any info on it. When I plug it into my network and connect it to my computer. It is seen as a EX2100 not DL2000. I have no idea why this is happening. From what II can see in pictures, it looks exactly like the EX2100, except for the name at the front. Any idea what this is? I got it for super cheap at a yard sale and I am planning to sell it, but I have no idea what this actually is.
  14. If the air flow rate is higher than the normal flow rate from a PC fan, of course it will be better. I remember I saw a picture somewhere of a PC with the side panel replaced with a industrial box fan.
  15. I just got the HifiMan HE-400 and I am loving it. Way better than my old SOny MDR-V6s. Definitely a good upgrade.
  16. 20" box fan with a thin wet towel on its intake side. My version of an evaporative cooler. Or you can get a legit one from amazon, but it'll be much more expensive than my $20 box fan and towel method.
  17. Look at used bikes in that price range. You won't really find a decent bike new under ~$500. DO NOT GET A FULL SUSPENSION BIKE. At that price they are horrible. The least you want to spend on a full suspension bike is ~$1000. Check the local craigslist first for bikes. An old road bike from the 90s will be better than the bikes you posted. Check out this website for bikes too: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mountain_bikes.htm I got my mountain bike from there for $400 and its been working great. Just had to swap the brakes to a better set and now I can tackle much tougher terrain with it. From what you wrote it sounds like you don't really need a mountain bike. Try looking for a hybrid bike or road bike. They will be much faster on road and its not too hard to tackle dirt roads with a road bike.
  18. Friday: Usually just take the day off from everything. Chill at home all day, gaming, TV, etc. Go chill with friends at night from 7PM-~2AM. Saturday: Wake up around 11ish. Go hang with friends all day. Usually something outdoors. Mountain biking, hiking, beach, camping sometimes. Get food at night from places in the city. Sometimes stay the night at the friends, or go back home late at night. Sometimes when my friends are busy, I just do stuff by myself or with the local mountain biking club. Sunday: Fun time over . Work all day usually, study for classes, house stuff, etc. I used to just stay on my computer all 3 days of the weekend, but I'm trying to change that these days. Can't be good just sitting on my ass all day looking at useless stuff.
  19. Except the people who like gardening...
  20. On a side note: I'm having to use a super crappy dell keyboard while the K95 is being replaced. Its so horrible after a mech keyboard.
  21. I had both the blue and white led ones die on me. The white ones did last longer though.
  22. Awesome! Thank you for the info. I do like the keyboard itself, so I think I'll stick with it then. I'm out of the warranty period now, so if LEDs do die, I'll have to stick with it. At first I thought maybe it was something I was going. But the LEDs were going out in random patterns, so it definitely wasn't my fault.
  23. Can't stop listening to it after hearing it at a rave.
  24. So a while back I got Corsair K90 with red switches and I loved it. But sadly, the keyboard I got was bent and wobbled when on my desk. I ended up sending it to corsair and they replaced it with no problems. A few weeks after getting the replacement, the LEDs on the 2nd keyboard started dying. After a few months a quarter of them were dead. After spending $100+ on a keyboard I thought that it was unacceptable for stuff to already be dying. I contacted Corsair again, and they were happy to replace my defective keyboard. They actually upgraded me to a K95 because that had been released by the time I filed a support ticket. So I got the K95, and it worked fine for a while. And then LEDs started dying again. By this time I was pretty pissed, and sent them a pretty angry sounding email about my problems with their products. Again they apologized and offered me a replacement. This time they said they will replace the K95 I had with a K95 RGB. So I will be getting the K95 RGB from them in a week or two and I wanted to know if people were still having problems with the LEDs dying on the new model with the RGB LEDs. If people are still having problems, I am thinking of just selling the keyboard I get back and purchasing something by another manufacturer. I love the design and features of the Corsair keyboards, but I just think a keyboard that costs $100+ should not be having these problems. Yeah, I know its just LEDs and its pretty superficial, but hey, lots of us spend huge amounts of money to make our setups looks good and a keyboard with half the LEDs gone does not look good. Anyway TLDR; K95 RGB, do the LEDs work fine over time.
