    Win 10 vs 11

Couple of things. Windows 10 is no longer getting feature updates. So yeah, it might be a bit more stable based on the fact its pretty much never getting anything new added. Also Windows 10 has been out a lot longer than WIndows 11, they have had time to polish it. Windows 11 they are in active development on. Meaning things are changing all the time. As far as your performance issues go, it could be a Windows issue or it could be driver related. Maybe see if you can download some older drivers or make sure you have the newest drivers. I know that drivers can effect performance. That being said I have not tried Windows 11 yet, my friend has tried it and said it felt pretty solid. The "Upgrade" I would say is any of the new features it has to offer. I haven't upgraded because my PC does not currently meet the requirements. Technically the hardware can do it, but I need to enable TPM and a few other things to install it. If WIndows 11 doesn provide what you need then go back to 10. Just bare in mind few are a couple years out from it being unsupported. BUT rumors of WIndows 12 are on the horizon. So who knows what the future will hold.
  2. Assuming everyone has an electric dryer. Lots of people here in the US use natural gas. Our Dryer, hot water heater, furnace, and stove are all gas. We dont have a single 220v appliance and we dont have space in our electrical panel for one. The reason we use gas is because its cheaper than using electricity for everything. Yes but they are here right now. And before cars we had horses who just required food and water. Horses are no longer a prefered method of transportation for most. Instead of pushing EV's when the infrastructure isn't ready, you make the infrastructure ready. You upgrade the power grid, you install charging stations, you mandate that new homes have the ability to install a level 2 charger. You let the market decide when its time to change over, you dont force it, < redacted by moderation, politics >
  3. Everything I have read says you get 40 miles of range over night on 120v. Generally the places that are affordable to live in and the places that pay well are no in the same area. My dad drove 50 miles a day for work. I drive like 26 miles a day, but then you add the trip to the grocery store once a week. Might have to go out and get dinner one night. Add possible a 42 miles trip to my sisters. Thats 40 miles of range each night is a very limiting factor. It would be different if we had public transits but that doesn't exist in Michgian at large. So a Level 2 charger is the only way, because I dont want to be counting my miles driven like I have to count the data we use thru Comcast each month. I can fill up my car in less than 5 minutes with gas. There are gas stations on like every corner. Thats assuming you charge to 100%. Again from what I have read, overnight at 120v is about 40 miles of range. Last I checked the goverment doesn't operate the grid, corporations do. So its more like corporate greed. But it still doesn't change the fact that if the grid cant handle it EV's are USELESS. You can't push a solution down everyone's throats that limit's what they can do. Sorry but EV's limit people. Until EV's have the support like ICE cars do they wont be accepted by everyone. Which is why I stated all those things have to improve. I know of only maybe 1 person who owns an EV. All the others are not considering one. Most Americans are also keeping their cars longer, meaning ICE is hear to stay for a long time. Hydrogen is not practical. We can get enough of it cleanly. The only way to produce a large amount of it is with Natural Gas. Unless Japan can figure out how to get a large amount of Hydrogen cleanly, its never going to be practical.
  4. It's not people being stubborn it is that EV's are not practical for a large amount of people. Due to limitations with charging. The amount of time it takes to charge. Or like me they live in a cold climate and current battery tech doesn't like cold climates (reduced range). For EV's to be more practical we need better charging, better battery tech and a better grid. BTW Detroit Edison charges double between the hours of 3pm and 7pm, which is the time where people come home from work and would plug in their cars. I think they are trying to deter from charging their cars when they get home. This is why Hybrids in my opinion are a better idea. Which we should have been pushing for the last decade.
  5. Id stroke out from that amount of caffeine in that bad boy.
  6. Generally most will recommend at least two cables per drop. You should also consider how many devices at each location and considering running more cabling if necessary. While you can use switches at these locations remember that one cable linking you back to your network all the devices connected to the switch will be sharing that one cable. Most of the time is a non issue but you could still issues with that. Id try to go for just one centralized switch if you can. Modems, Routers and Switches that are consumer grade tend to be passively cooled. Though if they do get too hot then can have issues. So yeah Id suggest some type of air circulation. Unless you are running IP security cameras I think this is unnecessary. Id recommend Cat6 cabling then. It's rated for 10 Gbps up to 55m and 5 Gbps up to its 100m max length. So as long as your runs are below 55m you should be good to upgrade to 10 gig or just use 2.5 for now and upgrade to faster speeds when you need. Stay away of CCA (copper clad aluminum) Ethernet cables, they are of low quality. Now if you have runs more than 55 meters and intend to do 10 Gig on those devices then you need Cat6a cabling. I think for most home users 55m is probably going to be the most a run is going to be.
  7. I mean gaming headsets generally dont sound great. Hell in some cases I feel my Sennheiser bluetooth headphones sound better than my Corsair Void gaming headset. It just I cant do bluetooth with Windows so I bought a gaming headset for gaming and use my Bluetooths on my Mac.
  8. One thing Id like to add. The Sony headphones are bluetooth. Bluetooth sucks in Windows. I used to use Bluetooth headphones with Windows and it was never a great experience. Ive read tons of threads that suggest it hasn't gotten that much better in Windows 11. The Steelseries most likely use a proprietary wireless standard. Which is why it will work on Windows.
  9. My first smartphone was a Samsung Moment. I have 4 replacements in 6 months. The GPS never worked on any of them. After the 4 phone I just gave up on features working. Once I replaced that device I basically just avoid Samsung phones like the plague. Due to your bad experience Id probably wouldn't buy a Google phone. All you can do is vote with your wallet. There are other phone manufactures out there.
  10. I dont keep up on the current Intel chip generations. And most sane people would say I have a 3rd gen or a 10th gen or provide a model number of the cpu and not just say 3 gen old. Just saying.
  11. Based on the specs you shared Im guessing its "Unsupported" hardware. Meaning you can make it work, but officially in Microsoft's eyes the hardware is not supported, Windows is not tested on that hardware and at any time something could break or you might lose support for things. Personally Id just downgrade to Windows 10. Its been out for a while, it should be well polished and will work fine until 2025. After that you will either have to use an unsupported OS or switch to some kind of Linux distro.
  12. They fall under light duty trucks. Light duty trucks are generally used for commercial purposes. But somehow they convinced regulators to put pickup trucks and SUV's in the same category.
  13. Most likely a ductless system. As that would also have zone control vs a force air system.
  14. Because that's what Americans are buying. The auto industry lied to Americans telling them that trucks and SUV's were safer, when technically they are not. Now that being said, I find its a lot easier to get in to my Nissan Rouge then it was to get in to the Ford Focus I used to own. Also with with the Nissan being more lifted, it makes it easier to go thru snow in the winter, used to get stuck with my Ford Focus.
  15. Are you putting in that cabinet in the first picture? If so Id be concerned about airflow. High end PC parts push out lots of heat and it can heat up a confined space very easily. Which can cause the PC and other equipment in the cabinet to overheat. But my advice is look at Mini ITX cases. Im sure you will be able to find something. There are cases that are not much bigger than a 4 or 5 bay NAS. Just understand building in one of these cases will likely suck, especially if you have big meat sticks hanging off your hands like I do. Im not sure on this. I know Bluetooth has a max of like 30 ft I think. Which the xbox controller can use. But Im not sure how well it will work with walls and such. I read somewhere that the first party Xbox dongle from Microsoft uses some proprietary wireless standard for the controller part and bluetooth for the audio part. My experience with Bluetooth on WIndows has not been good. While it worked OK ish (heavy on the ish) in Windows 7, upgrading to WIndows 10 pretty much forced me to buy a gaming Headset and just use my Bluetooth one with my Mac. Connected to my mac, I can walk down the stairs to our dinning room and kitchen and still be connected. But those rooms are directly under mine. Moving to the other end of the house I lose connection. So Im not sure how well it will work for you. How are you connecting other peripherals like a Keyboard and mouse? Last I checked using a controller for Windows navigation was not an easy task and sucked. Would it be possible to route a cable from where the computer is going to be to your theater room? Because if you can get a USB cable there and maybe use a Hub, you should be able to install any Wireless dongles the perferals might need in the same room. The only thing Im unsure of here is at what length you need active cables, because like all copper cables USB does have length limitations. At a certain point you need active cables. That's the only way you will get the best quality. Because most streaming services will punish you for using a browser with a lower resolution.
  16. My aunt has like a 2010 Toyota Prius. Its a reliable car but the thing is it is more complicated. My aunt recently had to have the 12 volt battery replaced, it was like $350 because it was one of those new AGM batteries and I guess they cost a bit. If you have to replace the big battery it can get costly. I think you can get the cells for like $2k but installing it is a bit involved. ChrisFix did two videos on replacing the battery is a Toyota Prius. Furthermore you still have the gas powered components and the wear and tear those can have. You still have things like Oil changes for example, though you can probably push those to yearly depending on how you drive. Some people have suggested plug in hybrids and thats definitely an option. I recall the 8bitguy has on. I remember he stated that he keeps very little gas in it because well gas goes bad. Something to think about. To be deciding between Gas, Diesel, Hybrid, Plug in Hybrid or Full electric depends on where you live. How you drive and how far you are generally going to travel. For example around where I live, we dont have much infrastructure for EV's. Diesel is over $4 a gallon. We dont have a good way to plug in a car charger outside. Plus while I generally only drive 26 miles a day for work and maybe 5 to go to the store, my sister lives 35 miles away and we like to visit her and the kids. On top of all of that the current EV batteries dont do well in cold climates and Michigan is artic for 6 months out of the year or so. So that leaves gas or hybrid for me anyway.
  17. I dont know the exact system but Im pretty sure he has radiant heat. I recall he has electronic valves that provide zone control or something to that nature.
  18. OR they can offer a standalone version that gets x amount of support for x number a years and offer a subscription that is just a rolling release. Sorta what Microsoft used to do with Office and Office 365.
  19. Jellyfin fails at Live TV. They dont provide guide data and dont really help users with getting guide data. From what I have read. Plex grabs it automatically. So it really depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go I guess.
  20. I dont think you understood what I wrote. I was saying they could keep the main channels unencrypted and use the sub channels to offer paid content. Thats how they could make extra money. Maybe offer premium channels like HBO or content from Stream providers like Disney+. Piracy is going to always exist. DVD and Blurays both have encryption built on the disk. How long did it take before it was broken? Games have DRM built in, how long does it take before its cracked? They are in a battle they cant win. It just like The Pirate Bay, they have taken it down soooooo many times but it just pops back up. Fucking over the average person is how you lose. Because most people are willing to do things the legal way as long as its not a big hassle and takes away from what they have been doing all along.
  21. Im already selective about what I subscribe to. The issue is, prices keep going up. Things that shouldn't have subscriptions have subscriptions. Like cars have subscriptions. Software of all types now has subscription's when a few years ago you just bought the new version when you needed the newer features. Not everything needs a subscription or needs to have a subscription only option. Which is my point. Also when people dont feel there is value in the subscriptions they will get the content others ways. WHen all the content was on Netflix for example piracy actually dropped. Now these services all got greedy, piracy is going to make a comeback. Sure there are the people who will pirate to just pirate. But then there are those who either cant afford the subscription or those who feel there's not enough value in the subscription. Youtube Premium for example I feel at $11.99 it doesn't have enough value. At $5.99 I feel there's more value there. My friend subscribes to Youtube TV, why isn't a premium sub included? Because of greed. Companies are pricing themselves out of business. Its kinda like how GPU sales have dropped, because people A) Dont want to support the greed. B) Dont see the value in the new products. C) Dont have the money due to inflation.
  22. Not many exist. The FCC even pointed that out themselves. The industry has been slow to deploy this new tech. The only thing ATSC 3.0 has that I want is multipath interference doesn't effect you the way it dose with 1.0, and in fact it can make the singal a bit better. How is this different then someone sharing a movie or music? Those industries use the courts and the DMCA like they are suppose to. Someone puts content up you send them a DMCA letter. They keep doing it, you sue the pants off of them. If its a business doing it you slap them with an injunction. Then you have to courts tell them to stop. All encryption does is make law abiding people consider piracy or they stop using the product or service. Either way they would be out money. The fact also is the FCC does allow them to offer paid channels as long as they provide the .1 channels for free. So ABC for example could theoretically offer Disney+ content on a paid channel for those people without good internet service.
  23. Last time I was at the Walmart in Belleville Michigan for a tire rotation they did have a few TV shows on sale. However they are currently remodeling the store so its in a disarray current. Amazon I know sells TV shows as well might be a better place to look. I have the MX Anywhere 3 mouse and it does Bluetooth and has its own dongle. I use the dongle with my Mac and it works pretty good. On a secondary note, Ive always wondered about trackball. I was considering buying one for the bed setup but went with the Anywhere 3 instead.
  24. I disagree. I use Bluetooth with my Macbook and it works good. I used to use them with my gaming machine during the Windows 7 days and it worked well. Windows 10 not so much. I even use a bluetooth keyboard with my Mac. Now I will say there is a lot of latency, but Im not gaming on my Mac. Id say depending on your expectations Bluetooth can be fine. Yeah a lot of wall street guys are telling CBS to kill the service. I mean they do have some good content, but with the increasing competition is becoming harder to compete. Star Trek and NCIS are two franchisees that are big. Even some of the Paramount Plus exclusive content is good, like Tulsa King. Halo was a mixed bag, not really the best but for a SciFi series Ill take it. I do agree with how these services are going physical media might make a come back. Ive considered myself buying like a 16 TB drive, and chucking it in my NAS just for Plex. Buying a portable Blu-ray drive and just ripp all the media. Had our Maytag unit PCB replaced twice and the tech said it will fail again. It did so just outside the warranty. We ripped that fucker out and bought a used Microwave for $20 at a yardsale. We had issues with similar things with the Maytag dishwasher. Ripped that guy out and brought out old one that we luckily kept in our shed back in, come to find out it needs a repair as well. The fridge and stove are the only things that have stayed working.
  25. The issue is there are too many streaming platforms. Not to mention everyone and their dog wants to make a product or service a subscription. Eventually people will become subscription poor.
