  1. The fact that you think people shouldn't be payed for their work is sad.
  2. Usually for lightweight distros everyone says lubuntu so try that and see if it covers your needs. I don't think it will be that bad. If you have a common sense and a good virus protection software then I think you will be fine, but for my granddad I wouldn't leave him on XP.
  3. True. I use Linux and have about 40 games out of my 50 game library on steam, but it would be nice to see some Linux love from AAA publishers
  4. You could put more fans in it or even watercool the GPUs
  5. Why not try a free, light Linux distro?
  6. I use Ubuntu 12.04 and have done so for the last 2 years. Don't try it in a VM. It's much more fun in dual booting and you get the full experience.
  7. I'm pretty sure that .govs can only be issued by the government so it'll have to be a legit, government site to have a .gov. Also anyone can buy a .org so they can be as wrong as .coms
  8. I think that they would prefer to do folding. It helps the overall rank of the team and also it calculates real word problems (If I remember correctly)
  9. Ohh well I'm sorry but I used to watch it regularly but PhillyD is my man now
  10. Also check out the arch wiki. It's really the best linux wiki around and good even if you're not running arch.
  11. uhh no? this link shows that the performance is the same. and also I have a 2GB 660Ti and why would they make a 2GB version if it can only use 1.5 of that?
  12. What seems to be the problem? Maybe PM me if you're interested
  13. He did say 720p lowest settings though. That could stretch it out a bit couldn't it?
  14. Wow looks like you have everything sorted out but I'll add my two cents. First off the 1TB drive. I was going to get a 1TB and then the salesman let me know that for an extra $20 I could a 2TB drive. and the 760. I have a 660Ti which is pretty much the same as a 760 and I'm not sure if I would keep this card for another 6 years, but maybe if you put everything on lowest settings then you could. I think lowest settings you could go about 3 years and then maybe another year or two after that depending on the game. And that's about all I can comment on.
  15. Learning Linux then mint. I use Ubuntu myself and have for two years but I know that debian is not aimed at new Linux users. so yeah try Mint and see how it goes for you.
  16. Sorry but our meaning of open are not the same then.
  17. I use Ubuntu but Mint users will prefer it over Ubuntu. Also elementary is a nice clean looking distro too. Honestly it's all about personal opinion download the ISOs for each distro I mention and give each of them a spin and see what you like the most.
  18. You say that it's not locked down and just as open as Windows yet about 3 sentances before you mention a hackintosh site. Windows will run on all consumer PC's, OSX will run on all Apple PC's and Linux will run ALL. The fact that you say that Linus would have to go out of his way to get the right parts just show's that it is not open at all.
  19. Hmmm maybe you need a newer kernel version. Have you tried Ubuntu 13.10?
  20. First off if you're laptop doesn't have much horsepower which most of these xp machines will have, then you will need to go for a light distro. Xubuntu and Lubuntu are generally really light but if they are not useable then I suggest you go even lighter. Maybe check out damn small linux
  21. My console for some reason wasn't connecting
