    rule of thumb for freenass is for every 1tb of hdd space its 1gb of ram if i am correct. im going to be doing a freenass build with a athlon 5350 (2ghz quad core) thats like 50$ and like a 70$ motherboard CAD with 4x4tb hdds and 16gb ram but a lot of people are sugesting the i3's i just think the way im planing is more cost efective i also plan on using a node 304

    thanks do you just use single gig eath? or do you have a duel card as ill have to use the pci-e slot for sata ports i will have to run a single eath

    thanks for the info man i dont know much about doing vm and server's basicly just use vm to test sketchy programs and to fool around with os's

    the 5350 is a 25 tdp so less power and yeah i was tihnking of doing a plex possibly on it but for now just basicle file server

    true i remember doing simmiler with a am2 board with a phenom II 955 didnt suport the tdp but was able to get a chipset bios that suported the chip was not the offical bios for the mobo and gave me a bios warnign but worked fine in windows for 3 years before i sold it

    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A88TI_Deluxe/ its socket am3 but i beleve it will suprot am3+ with a bios flash the 880g chipset has been found on am3+ board wich is what this mobo uses

    okay ive just herd of people using old c2 parts and athalon x2 am2 stuff thought this would be around eqivelent to them

    its only gonna be for a meada server so ones everytihng is copyed on mainly just playback just dont got a lot of money and no need to upgrade my other computers yet well cpu mobo

    That back of mine is always a mess due to adding hardware and taking it out I need to be able to access my cables without them being zap strapped down. Oh he front side is fairly clean for non modular

    ive had a 4tb drive in mny main rig for over a year now going solid. and out of the 6 thermaltake tr2's ive used 500 and 600w only 1 has died and was from folding 24/7 for over a year

    its not a ture raid card it uses softraid its basicly a sata controler on a pci-e interfaces will work with freenas and zfs. i was told zfs is kind of cpu intensive thats the part that worries me . and yeah the 2 8gb sticks slightly cheaper then a 16gb kit.
