  2. While it looks like you would be able to do this, all it seems to do is change what audio setting you alter, but the sound all still comes through the same device as before.
  3. Hi all, I have been trying to figure this out for a while now and have looked around without success so far. I have a USB headset (Plantronics 780) and some fairly basic desktop speakers which connect through the single green Aux port. The problem I have been having is that since I installed the Plantronics headset, even if I unplug it, I can't get sound to come through my speakers any more. I have a MSI G45 Motherboard and I have realtek HD Audio manager installed, and nothing I do seems to allow the sound out of the speakers any more. What I ideally want is to be able to choose if the sound was to come through the headset or through the speakers (without unplugging and plugging back in) which I didn't think would be complicated. I have a feeling that I might need a dedicated soundcard for this, but wanted to check first. If I do, any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks Skitz
  4. More than just picking 1 champ you like, focus on a role (i.e. Top, Jungle, Mid, ADC or Support) that you want to focus on (and get a strong rune set up for that role). Unless your main is support, also practice support for when you don't get your preference. As well as this, play during free week all champions you have little or no experience with. You will then learn what abilities they have, as well as strengths and weaknesses they have. This will make countering much easier. Don't play ranked with these characters, as this will just damage your elo, but you also never know who you may really enjoy. I know that it is what everyone says, but FARM! make sure your farm in what ever role (excluding support) is your number 1 priortiy in non ranked games (for practice). Kills are fun, but the amount of gold many lower elo players miss by focusing on poking / kiting while minions are dying can be the difference between winning and losing. Don't be afraid of spending mana by using abilities while farming. If you can push your lane, or clear jungle faster than the other guy, your life will be much easier. I say this for non-ranked games so that it is automatic in ranked games. You don't want to have to think about farm, it will just happen if you are a pro last hitter, as you know the timing of abilities and attack animations of your champs. I am no pro, and am still fairly new (only about 100 normal wins & now ranked Silver 4), but I watch and listen to what a lot of pro's do, and by focusing on just these things, and doing them well, you will gradually rise through the rankings.
  5. Hey guys, A good friend of mine is about to purchase a new laptop, but is concerned as he purchased a SSD not long ago for his current laptop and wants to know if he can install it in his new laptop (replace the HDD). I googled it, but every site is just saying how to install a NEW SSD into an EXISTING Laptop. I just wanted to know if there are any issues that I should be aware of, and what needs to happen with installing the laptops' standard software (e.g. the webcam, blu-ray player, other drivers, windows). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Skitz
  6. Hi guys, With my new PC I am building, I was wondering if it is possible to have both windows 8 and Unix (or other Linux based OS) as I will predominantly game, but with some of the coding I will be doing in C++, my lecturer suggested using a Linux based OS or getting a windows addon (he mentioned one but I can't remember the name) that works like linux. Not really sure why, but it was in the first lecture, and I thought as I am building a PC anyway, is there anyway I can install both, and just switch from one to the other when needed, or should I just stick with Windows 8 and get the addon. Thanks
  7. Thanks for that, could you suggest any PSU to have with a 780 GPU with a haswell i5 4670k?
  8. Using the consoles as a bit of a guide, the advancement in gaming graphics is slightly limited enough that I would be surprised if in 3 years you wouldn't be able to play almost everything on High or Max using a 780, the ram on the card being the only question IMO. The 780 is expected to be able to run a 4k monitor well, so I think that 1440 isn't going to push it too far. possibly if you ran a 3d surround 3X monitor set up it might push it past it's limits. Also what fps do you consider reasonable for these settings. i.e. you might be able to run high setting on 30fps, but that fps might be too low for what you are talking about.
  9. Thanks for that, I appreciate the advice. What do you find chews up the majority of your RAM?
  10. across 3 is something I was thinking of doing, but as the screens are widescreen, not sure how that would look/work.
  11. I game a fair bit, everything from LoL to Battlefield to TitanFall (can't wait). as for programming, I am not exactly sure what I will end up doing mainly, for now I am doing C++, SQL, HTML5, CSS, and some Java. Budget is around $2k I've just updated prices next to each item
  12. Hey guys, Just wanted your feedback on this potential build. I will be using it for programming (I am studying software engineering), as well as a lot of document preparation and database work (for my part time job writing financial plans for financial advisers). 2 X LG 23" IPS Thin Bezel monitors (EA63v) - I am considering getting 3 for gaming, but not sure yet... - $418 ($209 each) Case - Coolermaster Storm Scout 2 (as I will occasionally LAN) - $109 GPU - GTX 780 (not sure which one, what ever I can get my hands on at the time) - $750 CPU - Intel i5 3570k (can't see any real reason to go for the haswell yet) - $259 MB - MSI Z77 MPower Motherboard - $190 SSD - Samsung 840 Pro 128gb - $150 HDD - WD 1TB Black - $95 RAM - Corsair Vengence 1600 8gb - $95 PSU - Silverstone Strider 550W Gold - $140 Optical - LG Bluray combo (DVD & Bluray) drive - $60 OS - Windows 7 - $50 Cooler - I have not decided yet, needs to go with red and black theme costing around $50 ~$2,300 Let me know any changes you recommend. This is my first build! I am open to any suggestions for any and all components if there is a good reason. I initially wanted a HAF X case but decided against it as I LAN about once a month. Already have a good keyboard and mouse. I eventually want to do a full custom mod build, but potentially use these components, just individually sleeve cables, and get a case to heavily mod, and probably custom water cool. Thanks all
  13. I didn't, I am building with intel, Iceman asked about AMD Any recommendations? I have heard they are not great in the past
  14. Hey all, I am planning a gaming build for around $1800, and trying to decide on a Motherboard. I would prefer one with built in wifi purely for aesthetics over having an additional card in the case. Unfortunately I can't run a Ethernet cable from the modem to my PC, as mine is not the main PC in the house, and I would require a 10 metre cable and it would look rubbish, and involve lots of holes in walls etc. I am thinking a Z77 or Z87 board, as I haven't decided between a haswell CPU or just go with an Ivy bridge as from what I can tell, neither is going to make much difference either in price or performance. Budget is probably max $250, and am currently thinking of the MSI M-Power Z77. I don't want to spend too much on the MB as I am trying to budget in a 780. Cheers
