  1. The SP120s are "meh" at best. They're not loud unless they're at 100%. I'd go with the Vardars. (I went Noctua Industrial as I hate the goofy beige/brown)
  2. I see we've got a cheesemaker in the house!
  3. You could do either way, really. The fans that come on it should be PWM (4-pin) so they Noctua fans SHOULD hook up the same way. Or you could just bypass that and use the PWM headers on your motherboard with the splitter and have the motherboard monitor and control your fan speeds.
  4. I wish I'd have researched fans more. I really don't care for these Corsair SP-140 fans on my radiator. Even with 2 push/pull, they're not as good as the failing single stock fan on the H90. I'm pretty sick of the red LEDs, too.
  5. This is the correct answer. They revised the PCB on later model cards for some reason.
  6. 1. You might be doing it wrong. Make sure you're not. 2. Washers could help take up the slack if you've somehow got a really thin mobo? Never heard of that, though.
  7. There's a tiny bit of air in all the Corsair systems I've put my hands on. Put the radiator above the pump and it will eventually silence itself.
  8. That's about what I was thinking, too. Thanks guys/gals.
  9. So I'm thinking about selling my old system to a friend here at work. I don't want to rip him off, but at the same time I can't just give it away, either. Core2Duo E8400 Asus P5Q Pro motherboard Some gigantic OCZ air cooler 8GB Corsair RAM - DDR2 1066 EVGA GTX650 Ti Antec Three Hundred case Rosewill or Corsair (I forget) 650W PSU Buncha fans and whatnot. The only thing he'd need is a HDD, and it would be ready to rock. Thanks!
  10. So you've got it set up for pull right now? If so, you should be good.
  11. http://www.techpowerup.com/206522/be-quiet-announces-the-pure-rock-entry-level-cpu-cooler.html Click the first picture. Hopefully that helps!
  12. The reason I did a AIO watercooler is to get the heat from the CPU out of my case, without having to move a ton of air and create a lot of noise. The problem with air coolers is that they dissipate the heat from the processor into your case, which will build up over time, unless you tun a ton of fans at high speeds to exhaust the air from the case. With an AIO watercooler, I only need 2 inlet fans, and one single exhaust, and never ramp them up over 1200 RPM, so they're virtually silent. These pretty much just exhaust the heat from the video card and northbridge.
  13. On my Corsair H90, I have the pump plugged into the PWR_FAN which runs at 100%. If it detects a dip below a predefined value, it will initiate a shutdown. The fan I have plugged into CPU_FAN and have it set as such: <40 degrees C = 50% >60 degrees C = 100% And just a steady ramp in between. Works great for me, and is silent unless I'm really working the CPU for extended periods of time.
  14. I have a 4670K overclocked to 4.6ghz, 1.325 volts on my H90, which is a 140mm vs your 120. I see temps of about 70C when it's maxed in Aida, so your approx 30% smaller cooler is pretty close to what I'm seeing, honestly.
  15. yes, just make sure you run sysprep as the last step before pulling the HDD out of the old machine.
  16. I have an R5. Love this case. All my inlet fans are filtered! 4670K overclocked to 4.6GHz, and cooled by a Corsair H90. Ran this same setup when I was using the stock cooler, just not as overclocked. I have the stock two fans that came with the case on the inlet in the front, 2 120mm fans (leftovers from last case) as inlets on the bottom in front of the PSU. The bottom is your friend! It's filtered, too. And then I have the H90 blowing straight out of the back. Temps on my CPU never get above 70 C. I don't have any top "modu-vent" things open, as I set stuff on the top of my case. I have the PSU with the inlet fan on the BOTTOM, pulling in fresh air, and exhausting it externally--not in the case. Give me a shout if you have any questions, or want a picture.
  17. I really like my Corsair. I have an RM, but I'd go with AX or AXi.
  18. Yeah, it's kinda something that during the install, Windows checks for updates. Then an hour later Windows Update is installing more updates!
  19. I've got supposedly "loud" fans in my R5, and I can't hear them at all. Corsair SP 140mm. That being said, I run them off my motherboard fan headers, and not 100% all the time. People will always leg-hump the Noctua fans, but the new Fractal Design venturi fans are supposed to be super high quality, as well.
  20. Spindle speeds don't mean much unless you're booting from the drive, or reading a lot of small files. If it's for storing large files, the performance will be about the same, honestly.
  21. You found a secret hack on how to overclock your SSD! Awesome!
  22. I ran out of drive bays in my home server, so my OS SSD is being held to the case by a cable management "spring" piece of metal. No issues almost a year later! haha
  23. I have the HyperX Cloud II headset, and the only reason I could see someone wanting to use an AMP or DAC is to possibly enhance the bass response. I don't use either.
  24. I went HGST drives. They're formally Hitachi, but now they're owned by WD, but have less failure rates than WD or Seagate. I've got 5 of them in my server with no issues yet. I've always run Hitachi drives and never had an issue.
