Two people that kinda got under my skin
OP: I need a new case.
Commenter: *makes 3 posts, provides 1 suggestion followed by two separate posts clarifying stuff instead of editing his first post*
Me: *Provides nine-ish examples with some clarifications to some of my suggestions all in one post*
Commenter: "Whoa, stop the flood lol"
OP (who asks a lot of repeat questions): "Need a new case *provides extra info about websites they can buy from*
Me: *Provides cases from those sites*
OP: Thanks
-one day later-
OP: Actually I think you should go out and buy a lot of cheap cases and put fans in them and tell me what your results are and what you think
Me: I dont have the time, money nor patience for that
OP: Ok well when you have time you can finish it

Some people just take the Case Lord for granted.. praise be to the almighty Case Lord. Btw I bought neither the Fractal C mini nor the Corsair Spec 06 due to what I mentioned in my own status update (wife not wanting the PC atm). I will keep looking for sales since both of those sales ended. I will come back to you to annoy you once more in a few months

That's why the most people will get out of me about build suggestions these days is a PCP list.
The only people I actually try helping anymore are those who are actually having issues like their PC won't boot or something else specific is happening as at least they will try what I say and report back as they want their PC to work.

Oh, thank god neither of them are me.
But I might just become one...while we're discussing cases though I've been looking for something like the Lian Li PC-Q26 but to my knowledge they are no longer manufactured. Know of any similar ones? My goal is, small as possible while maintaining eight 3.5" bays or more.

@Windows7ge damn thats one hell of a case.
The Silverstone DS380 comes close but doesnt have as many bays. The Node 804 is slightly larger but can hold 8 3.5" drives. Computex 2018 also released the micro ATX Silverstone CS381
-
The silverstone DS380 says it supports eight 3.5" (hot swap too. That's a perk) which would suffice fine. It's wider than a normal tower but makes up for that in height (quite shorter). What ruins it as an option is I require a standard ATX PSU. I need the SATA power connectors and I need the amps.
I did look at the Node 804 but yes, the footprint is a problem. This is going to be an offsite server. I need it to be out of the way.
micro ATX Silverstone CS381, again the footprint.
I appreciate your ideas but those aren't going to work.
-
You're not the only one, apparently there were a lot of people over the years (2015+) trying to find replacements and those were the suggested alternatives (save for the CS381, that one was mine) I didnt look into any dedicated NAS storage cases, those are usually more expensive and come with controllers/motherboard IIRC. I cant say I'm an expert in those.

If they come out with a Fortnite themed case I'm retiring

Cases designed for servers from Dell or HP for small business are usually standard (no backplane, plug in your own drives). More higher-end towers may have an integrated backplane. This is particularly true with much older gen IBM mainframes w/ sleds. I don't know if they still do this practice (probably do).
Once you get into rack mount chassis's you'll see DIY on the lower end. On the higher-end you'll see backplanes or even SAS expander backplanes where it takes a single SAS2/SATAIII link (that would normally go to 1 drive) and breaks it into four 1.5Gbit links for 4 drives (which is find for a mechanical HDD).
I'll keep looking around. I'll let you know if I find something I think is good. It's always possible I'll find someone selling that original case on eBay. I wouldn't mind a couple scuff marks. It just needs to hold and protect the parts.

Oh god...this is even worse...
Spoilerthe virus is spreading...
-
does that count tvwazhere? if it's true, we both have to retire
-
@LordOTaco That's been out for a while. It doesnt bother me too much since it's streamer themed (even though he mostly plays that game). There's also a Nuka Cola edition.
-
@TVwazhere to be fair it is a clean design just...ninja...lol
-
First one is a regular PC that was jsut marketed as "can play fortnite" (Which BTW, the 1070 is better than a 580, why are they saying the GPU is best in the lower priced build?)
Second is entirely custom (not just the case). If anything, I give respect to the level of custom watercooling
I'm talking something like this but fortnite themed

I mean you can't really blame SI's as they're just shifting their focus to where the money is. Does it look tacky and ridiculous, of course. Is it any different than people who do other game themed PCs, not really.
