  1. I believe it's telling me the ends are all there, but I will re-crimp it tomorrow. I have already crimped other cables around the house that had no ends on them and are using the same CAT5E and I am getting full gigabit on those connections, so my guess is the ends here are bad.
  2. I do have a tester (Klein Tools VDV500-705). I tried it just now and it ran through all the wires with it connected at both end and I got a green light on each, which I think means it is good, right?
  3. So, I recently bought a house which happens to already have CAT5E run to most rooms. Working on getting my network setup but I have ran into a small issue. I have a router in the basement where my Verizon ONT is, then from one of the ethernet ports on the router I have a CAT6 cable running up through the floor to a small under stairs closet. In that closet I then have a gigabit POE switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005P V2) that the CAT6 is connected to. Then from one of the ports on that switch it goes through the already installed CAT5E in the house to my living room, where it is connected to my access point (TP-Link EAP235-Wall). All of these devices support gigabit, however the access point says it's only connected at 100Mbps FD and the light on my switch is yellow meaning it is only at 100Mbps. What is the deal with this? The wire run through the house appears to be intact, with all the conductors connected at each end? Is this a A vs B wiring issue? I tested with a short wire between the switch and the AP and I DID get a full gigbit connection, so it's a wiring issue? Maybe wiring length?
  4. https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-and-decode-gpu-support-matrix-new 1050Ti can do up to 5 encoding sessions at once, and supports H264, H265 and HEVC. Those should be pretty cheap these days and don't need external power.
  5. Why is the 9900k still $300? Are people really paying that much for them?

I was about to ask whether this is on brand new market or not.

My question was quickly answered, and i answer back with harrowed yells.

  6. Sounds like a good place to start for realtek drivers.
  7. get another computer and a flash drive. Download drivers on that computer, place them in flash drive, place flash drive in new computer.
  8. I recently started using Unraid and I see why so many people like it. I would recommend giving it a shot. Since the default setup is JBOD you can always add another drive whenever you want. It's really easy to add a parity drive, and a cache drive. VM and app management has been really good as well. I had previously been using Xpenology for a few years and Unraid is miles better IMO.
  9. What day did the forums officially go up, the 4th? I guess I never realized I had joined the second day the forums were open.
  10. Yeah I have a very similar one I bought on Amazon. Pretty good, but it gets warm pretty quick if you have any of the smaller nozzles on it. Puts out a lot of air though. Extremely loud too.
  11. Yeah I have tried with a few different chargers, one OEM Lenovo branded charger, and two chargers with an adapter to Lenovo's square plug, doesn't make a difference.
  12. Alright, so I bought a Lenovo Y545 real cheap on eBay because it was marked as broken, and what do you know, it's actually broken. Typically these broken laptops aren't too bad to fix but I'm having real issues with this one. It took me days of trying, but I was finally able to get it from a state where it would constantly bluescreen on boot up no matter what (or kernel panic if booting into Linux) and managed to get the BIOS updated to the latest version, and now it will boot consistently. However, it will only boot consistently with the power cable not plugged in. If I try to boot with the power cable plugged in it BSOD's, if I boot into windows and log in without it connected it works, but will BSOD within a minute or less if I plug the cable in. Typically the BSOD message is saying it has some problem with ACPI.sys, and SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Is it possible the BIOS is still corrupt? Am I dealing with hardware damage?
  13. No I don't believe I do. I don't think I've ever used that on any network.
  14. The only one I have is a garage door opener, no smart bulbs or plugs anywhere else. I saw my garage door opener on my list of connected devices so I know it wasn't that. Kind of creepy, and my router did identify it as a camera which is even creepier. Haven't had the issue since blocking this device from my network.
  15. I think the rouge DHCP server just gained some more merit. My desktop was doing this again today so I decided to do a network audit. Ran AngryIP and found a device on my network that had a web server running that I couldn't access. It had no name in the router table and when I looked up the MAC it was some Shenzen Trolink company. I went through a mental list of all my network devices and couldn't figure out what that could be so I blocked it from accessing the network at all. After doing that I ran a /release /renew on my desktop and was able to grab the correct IP. I think that maybe fixed it?
  16. Yeah correct, it's just the ONT in my basement/garage. I don't rent any equipment from Verizon. Seems like maybe their could be some rouge DHCP device but I don't know, wouldn't I be double NAT'ed or something if that was the case?
  17. Here's an update. It has to be some kind of DHCP issue. I tried restarting my phone several times, restarting the router, forgetting the network on my phone, using device MAC or randomized MAC. None of this changed anything. Then I forgot the network settings, and used a static IP when connecting and it can connect to the internet fine that way. How do I even solve DHCP issue like this? The router doesn't seem to think it's doing anything wrong.
  18. The WAN side of the router is connected to my Fios gateway in my basement/garage. This is not the router that they try to sell you, it's just outside the fiber termination box, so I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's part of the media conversion from fiber to copper/ethernet. My TP-Link router is an AC1750
  19. Hi All, I have a decently new TP-Link router that has been working fine, however I have recently started noticing on my desktop, my phone, and my girlfriends phone, that I will occasionally not be able to connect. The strange thing is when I check what my device is doing when it won't connect is it's getting an IP address of 192.168.230.XX where as my normal DHCP range is 192.168.0.100-249. I am typically able to resolve the issue on my desktop by unplugging the ethernet cable a few times until it connects again. On my phone over Wifi it just seems to start working again after a certain amount of time and nothing I do resolves it. Anyone know why my router would be doing this? At least from what my phone is saying it claims to be connected to the router, but it can't connect to the internet. When this happens on my desktop I can't ping the router unless I go and manually set my IP to something on the 192.168.0.xx subnet (which makes sense)
  20. Yeah really sucks about Notebookreview forums shutting down. Someone was able to snag an archive of the forum though so you might be able to try searching it for any answers, not perfect though: https://www.nbrchive.net/
  21. If your GPU is power limited when on AC only I'm guessing that at times the total power consumption of the laptop is greater than what the charger could supply on it's on. Razer programmed the board to be able to draw from the charger and the battery at the same time to meet these maximum power demands. I'm guessing they figure these types of power loads are infrequent enough to not diminish the average user's experience, and by slightly undersizing the power adapter they both save a little money on it and can keep it as small and compact as possible. This is something that's almost inevitable with modern thin and light design and an example of trying to push the limits on power and size. A lot of enthusiast would argue that it's just flat out bad design (me included) however it's a corner Razer (and some other companies) have been willing to make in order to appeal to the masses.
  22. I mean, you can run a minecraft server on a raspberry pi. That CPU is pretty damn old at this point, but its probably worth trying just to have some fun.
  23. You can't buy PC hardware at the same cost of PS5 / Xbox MSRP due to those being sold at a loss, but Sony and Microsoft make it up on the other end through software sales. PC component manufacturers can't sell their hardware at a loss.
