No, using dedicated graphics card. Everything works if I put the i3 back in.

I purchased a used i7 4790 to upgrade the i3 4170 in my ASRock H97 MITX motherboard. With the i7 installed, my system will not post, but the lights/fans will come on. I have updated the BIOS to the latest revision, and cleared the CMOS. I assume that if the 4790 was bad, the system wouldn't even power on. Am I missing something, or do I need to return the CPU?

I've read that if you don't swap the IC, then it will spin up but not be readable. Does cloning work at a deeper level than that, and still be able to copy data in that state?

I need the data though.

Long story, but a confusion with modular PSU Cables from different PSU brands led to a toasted PCB, a strong burnt smell, and a drive that does not spin up. The Drive is a 5 year old Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 with irreplaceable data. There is a burn mark at the top right near the SATA power connector. I have attached a picture. I have heard that on Seagate Drives, you can simply swap the PCB and the BIOS IC and it will work, I've also heard that you can't do that. Should I try to solder over the burnt connections, or just cough up $30 for a new board?

I'm considering that, but that's a last resort.

I have a 4 year old Seagate Barracuda 500Gb drive that came from an OEM PC. There are 230 free Gb's, I need to create an OS-sized partition (I'm reinstalling the OS while trying to keep all the files on the same drive), but it won't let me shrink the C volume by more than 2Gb, and gave some sort of message about it not being able to shrink it if there are unmovable files. I tried to defrag the drive, but every time I open the defrag program, it gives me some message about partitioning has already been enabled by another program, and I can't get into the program. I know that this is an unreliable drive, could there be so many bad sectors and it is about to die?

If you copied it for your personal use, yes that's illegal, but I can pretty much guarantee they won't bother to prosecute you for it unless you're distributing it to others. Besides, how will they catch you if it's only going to stay in your house/car?

I always just download the WAN show so I can listen in the car.
