  1. I get pretty obsessed when buying this kind of gear, having my own mini music studio in my house, outboard sound card, monitors etc. Tired of overpriced, or breaking too easily, I went looking... then researching and finally.. Soundmagic E10C's What hi-fi winners in "best earbuds under €50/£50"... ...5 years in a row (They got narrowly beaten this year). Seen quite a few different video and written reviews on them and many say they sound like they cost hundreds of €/£/$. I got a pair for €40 on Amazon 2 weeks ago and I am not disappointed. Bass was a bit too punchy for me (had to set me EQ to neutral) but apart from that really good. Here ya go..
  2. I have a little experience in this as I also have (for many years now) an EMU 0404 USB out board soundcard with a mic and Triton LE attached to it. But my understanding is that just the USB will suffice on this novation. From SOS: Full article Hope this helps..
  3. Bad Linus! MakeMKV and Handbrake. Thanks. Good Linus! There are a metric crap ton of reasons you would do this (Long time and happy Plex user here). Here is one of mine. My Kids have sometimes 3 versions of the same DVD/BR. They are all scratched to hell, because kids. The multiple versions are because previous version got scratched and started skipping/stuttering in the player. So I made them their own library. New films get ripped, transcoded and sent to storage box #38 (It's actually on top of a cupboard) to remain pristine. End of story and no more scratched disks. The interesting point here is that although I am a brit, I live in Belgium and my kids mother tongue is French. So all the MKV files I make contain English, French and Dutch audio as well as subtitles. MKV is perfect for this as a couple of years back, no other formats seemed to support BR PGS subtitles properly. I have no ethical or moral problems with this, I'm fed up of having 2-3 versions of the same film on disks and none that work! On a side note (this is a little off topic); Ever had a BR/DVD player that, after a couple of years of use starts not wanting to read perfectly good disks anymore ("no disk" syndrome)? About 3 years ago, I went round the internet trying to find out why because it was driving me crazy. There was a lot of "disk dirty mate", "firmware update?", "laser head is dirty" and "It's broke". But when I finally got to the bottom of it, I managed to recuperate 2 out of 3 units that where sitting on a shelf. It's spindle slip. The motors that bring a disk up to speed have huge torque when they start up (well the units I have anyway). If the rubber grommets that clamp on to the disk get gunked up/oily or both, they fail to clasp the disc properly and it fails to get to speed for the hardwares liking which equals "no disk". Cleaning the rubber grommets that clamp the disk with denatured alcohol cured the problem in 2 or the 3 players I had. </Soapbox> Cheers!
  4. Hi LMG crew. I don't know if this has been covered before (sorry if yes) - but I would like to see a tech quickie on video frame interpolation on consumer goods as well as SVP I am in no way affiliated with SVP, but I am unsure how many people realize you can watch 60 fps versions of any film you have on your PC..for free. SVP really makes watching movies different from what you've experienced before. Some find it odd or uncomfortable, personally, I think it's brillo. Cheers!

  8. Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I am also involved, in the sense that I also have a 9 month old Yamakasi Sparta 301 and it also failed. I wanted to update the post if anyone ever does the same searches as me ;-) I wouldn't be too concerned about your graphics cards and the ASUS monitor. When my 301 failed I also plugged my old monitor back in and it didn't like the signal coming out the DVI port my 301 was on (go figure?). I switched DVI port and it came on fine. To be more precise, I put it down to the power supplies... ....supplied with these Korean monitors, I had heard they were shoddy, still bought my monitor and after 6 months, fail. I was worried at first my monitor was dead, but after a little exploring (disassembling the power brick), I found that one solder point on the main capacitor had just fallen off/burnt away. I have also seen reports of just plain blown capacitors after a few months (i.e. poor quality components). There is stuff to fix this on youtube if you have the DIY skills and are comfortable with a soldering iron. Symptoms: Green LED on power supply was on, but pulsed off for 14.9 seconds of every 15 seconds. Plugged in, the LED on the monitor was on. Occasionally, I could see the image on my 301 for a brief, 0.5 seconds, like it was trying desperately to be on. My opinion: The brick was (is!) kaput, it was getting enough juice to keep standby mode power up, hence the power LED on the 301 being on, but not enough juice to power the entire LCD/LED matrix of the screen. I could be wrong though. I did try to fix my brick (OK soldering skills) and successfully re soldered the lead capacitor. However, I botched it after one of my kids poked me.. ahem... (Maybe not so good soldering skills), and made me spill solder over something I shouldn't have. I'll never know if my theory was correct 8( The power plug on these things according to wiki is a kycon 4 pin Best next alternative imho. Pricey, but then looking around, 24V 7A is always going to be - it's a 168W brick. Hope this helps someone down the line. XOR42
