A 19-year-old made a free robot lawyer that has appealed $3 million in parking tickets

    • depending on case and lawyer, a legal process to argue out of paying a fine can cost between $400 to $900 in most situations

    • british programmer Joshua Browder created a robot that handles questions about parking-ticket appeals in the UK

      • programmed robot based on a conversation algorithm

      • the more people use the robot, the more intelligent it becomes

    • since launching in late 2015, it has successfully appealed $3 million worth of tickets

    • it asks questions to generate an appeal letter, which you then mail to the court

    • can also help with delayed or canceled flights on payment-protection insurance (PPI) claims

    • Browder is working to program US city laws into the bot, starting with New York

    • Browder doesn’t think robots will be debating in US Supreme Court anytime soon, he says fewer lawyers will do mundane tasks

Playstation VR “60% Faster than Equally Specced PC”

    Source 1: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/554823-playstation-vr-6 OP: DocSwag

    Source 2: http://wccftech.com/ps-vr-presentation-console-effectively-60-powerful-eq

    Sony Presentation Video (30:49 Long)

    • During the AR/VR Vision Summit Feb 10-11, Sony’s Richard Marks held a presentation about Playstation VR

      • presentation provides an overview of PlayStation VR and basic development process

    • <18ms super low latency, thanks to fixed hardware

    • 100 degree FOV

    • console effectively 60% more powerful than same-spec PC

      • this point was reported by middleware providers, NOT Sony

      • has also been confirmed by a VR developer on Reddit

      • “PSVR is extremely close to being on par with Vive and the Rift w/ a gtx970 based on the tests I’ve done”

      • “If your app runs at 90Hz on a PC with a gtx970 then you should be very close to 60 on the ps4. And with the 120Hz reproduction applied it’s glassy smooth”

    • PSVR only required about 1/4th of the render target size that the Vive requires

    • PS4 has hardly any driver overhead compared to Windows

      • draw calls on the PS4 are faster than with dx11 on a pc

    • comparing PSVR at 60Hz>120Hz to the Vive at 90Hz:

    Vive = 457 million pixels/sec (1512x1680x2x90)

    PSVR = ~100 million (1920x1080x60 - ~20%*)

*The ~20% is accounting for some additional (classified) techniques that further reduce the render target size

Am I the only one who notices Linus uses Comic Sans for some of the text in the WAN show doc? Or is that Colton?

  2.

    Audio recorder requirements:

    • Good battery life 1-2 hours
    • Mic jack (I already have clip on mics)
    • Not easy to accidentally stop the recording (I don't want to start recording, put it in my back pocket, start recording, and at the end of the video realize I accidentally stopped the audio recording)
    • Costs under 40 USD

If you want to record on your phone, get a rode SC3 adapter and get Cinema FV5 for Android or Filmic Pro for iOS. Then it is tethered to your phone http://www.rode.com/accessories/sc3

  3. I did a speedtest today on my laptop hooked up via Ethernet and managed to get 20 down 40 up (weird right?). I go on my main PC whihc is hooked up via Wi-Fi (specifically the TPLink AC600) and will get less than 10Mbps down and up. I realise I'm using wifi but this is a 802.11AC card, and also my router is N300, which should be plenty to get a signal. Also I'm fairly close to the router. So is it the Wifi card or do I need to tinker some more?

  4. Theoretically, yes you should be able to upload lets plays as long as you don't monetize since you're not making money off of it.  Keep in mind though Nintendo is notorious for just taking shit down though.  I would either in the beginning of your videos or in the description put the fair use clause and explain how its not for profit.  Even then they still might get ya though.

Alright. Well when I start making more of these LPs I'll sign up for the Creators Program

  5. Honestly, if someone doesn't mind playing at under 1080p, and don't have the budget, they can go ahead. What us gamers (and especially the PC enthusiasts) need to know is that graphics doesn't make a game 10x better. This is why Nintendo had success with the Wii and DS, sure the graphics were nothing mind blowing, but the games were fun on them (besides the shovelware). However, i believe that you need a playable frame rate to actually enjoy and play the game. Personally I think for modern games it detracts from the experience.

  6. What bloody great thing to be greeted by after coming back from holidays! Went to go play a game or two of BF4, to find my dell monitor is stuck in a constant loop of "monitor entering power saving mode" and i've done bloody everything, and i can't fix it, like everything and i've been to all dell sites etc. I don't really blame it considering it was my dad's ex work monitor and had been on everyday for 3 years, and then everyday for 1 1/2 years when i got my hands on it, it's gone pretty good.

Anyway, i have $300 at the most, would prefer to spend less like $250 but $300 is my max. I would like 1080p, with the biggest size (25"+ if possible in the price range) and to have displayport, if no display port it's fine. Any brand, just as long as the base is very sturdy and wont shake much and would be good to have some height adjustability if possible. I've been looking at some BenQ's and they seem pretty good. Here's one i have my eye on: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/32460

Also, i like the look of this one if i could stretch a bit more (im selling my bicycle and mangos soon) so i wouldn't mind this also: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/32460

Any store as long as it's computer alliance, mwave and PCCG.

    ~Elias

  8. Have you considered the Sony A6000 as a starting kit instead of Canon. The reason I mention this is that the Sony will have more user friendly video-centric software compared to the Canon. For beginners it won't necessarily matter, the canon will probably be easier to learn because of the simple functionality it offers, but if you want to go further the Sony will have more options such as a log profile, zerbas/peaking and higher bit rate recording.

Just a thought to make it more complex.

I need a mic jack so I cant go with the A6000 and I prefer not having to sync audio
