Purchase Help: M1 Macbook vs i5 (2019)
John Lovell replied to John Lovell's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Thanks for all the info and sharing experiences. My partner is after an new laptop and she loves the design. I'm a PC guy so have limited expirences in the Mac space, but sounds like my concerns around the performance / thermal issues with the i5 will be there even under light load. M1 has been order and ready for collection today! -
Purchase Help: M1 Macbook vs i5 (2019)
John Lovell replied to John Lovell's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
UK taxes unfortunately. This is the regular pricing we get over here. -
Hi All, looking for some purchasing advice. Torn between the new M1 Macbook Air: 8-Core 7-GPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB for £940 (~$1300) Or 2019 i5 Macbook Air: 2c/4t, 16GB RAM, 512GB for £550 (~$760) Both are new devices. It will be used for web browsing, Netflix, productivity, etc. so doesn't need high end performance. My concerns are the thermal issues with the Intel models and the future support for OSX on Intel with the push to M1 / Apple Silicon. Are the Cons of the i5 model outweighed by the big savings? Any help would be great!

Hi Guys, I have just upgraded to a 3800x on an Asus ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING motherboard, and I am a little concerned with some of the temperatures being reported. For cooling I have a Corsair H110i GTX and in Corsair Link (and HWMonitor), one of the Motherboard sensors is reporting temps of 80-90C at idle. I have checked the thermal paste and remounted the cooler to ensure there is good contact, but the issue is still then. Previously on my 6700k, the temps were provided on a per core basis, but that does not seem to be the case here. Instead, it just groups all readings from the MoBo. Has anyone else got experience with this motherboard that could offer some insight into what this may be? Some Googling makes me think it could just be the MoBo reporting the VRM temps. I also have package temps in the Mid 40s, low 50s at idle. Is this normal? I have read that with 7nm the chips can heat up very quickly before it can be dissipated by the IHS / Cooler. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I am having problems launching the virtual desktop application in steam for my HTC Vive. Every time that I try, it just throws the following error "The invocation of the construct on type 'VirtualDesktop.Engine.DynamicSettings' that matches the specified binding constraints threw an exception" (see picture). When I try to report the error to the developer it fails to do so. I have searched online for a solution but have been unable to find anything. Has anyone else had this problem and know of a way to fix it?

LG PF1000U Ultra Short Throw Projector Giveaway
John Lovell replied to CPotter's topic in LTT Releases
Damn! I get 90" from a few feet away with my current projector but that's incredible. -
Hi fellow LTTers, I am currently trying to set up a RAID 1 array using the onboard controller on my ASUS A88xm-plus motherboard. I have managed to create the array however I am now receiving an error on boot from windows stating 'INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE'. I believe that this issue is as a result of changing the SATA settings from AHCI to RAID and windows not being able to read the boot drive properly (NOTE: the boot drive is not included in the array I am creating). I have tried a number of solutions online however none of the seem to work. My question is, has anyone set up a RAID 1 array on this motherboard or just knows their stuff and can give me advice on how to get it to work. If there isn't a fix for this, would a RAID card present me with the same issues or is there a software RAID solution that would work? Help me LTT forum, you are my only hope!
