It's possible. Would need the exact RAM and motherboard model to determine if it's on the QVL. But plenty of RAM will run that's not on the QVL.

    • The 3700X doesn't have integrated graphics, so you'll need to test with a discreet GPU
    • One stick of RAM should only be tried in DIMM A2
      • No need to test in the other DIMMS
    • You can try reseating the CPU
    • Is this inside a case?
      • If it is, pull everything out of the case and try it sitting on a non-conductive surface like a cardboard box
    • Try holding down the power button for a minute or so with the whole thing unplugged

I’ll go grab some different ram tomorrow and retest, hopefully that’s it

I have it outside of the case, with nothing but the esssentials

  3. Msi b550 and 3700X will not post, debug leds act as it is in a post loop, boot led flashes, then vram, then repeat. No display. Brand new kit of vengeance pro. So far I have tried:

one stick of ram (tried in each slot)

    cleared cmos and replaced battery

    two psus

    two gpus

    reflash bios to latest

ya its nice. but i had to clean it. un decided if ill ise the cpu block as there junk in it. i can take out the jet plate but i dont no.

i love nical plated copper thow. the nb black has it and a bit of elbo geese and it clean right up.

this is one that i wanted but they guy never shipped it... oh well maybe when i see a back one for ok price ill get it.

For newer systems the fun is all in ram overclocking since you can still do some insane overclocks, all you need is a stick with good ram ics like hma81gu6jdr8n and you are good to go, bare pcbs is the cheapest and best way of getting good ics since you can use their model number or straight up look at the ram ic itself directly, decent hynix djrs id expect 5200+ out of em if you arent being a sissy with voltage (>1.7v vdimm, scales to around 1.9v)

Btw the ram that i used to get to those speeds is just this meekly transcend stick

    IMG_20230911_224721.thumb.jpg.379cc68bfe609ff98230d22a993b9c45.jpg

I was looking for good ics at the time mainly elpidas or pscs but stumbled upon these transcends that just so happened to have the pscs i was looking for so yes i absolutely stand by buying bare pcbs as theyre cheaper and outright faster than buying xmp 3200c16/3600c18 with a simple lazy overclock to 3800-4000, 8gb double sided sticks in particular are pretty good since good ones like m378a1g43eb1 or hma41gu6afr8n can run <300 trfc

These pscs are kinda meh though with the best stick only doing 3200 bios 3000 windows worst not even being able to post >2700 but works well as a dummy stick to overclock my samsung g die which wont run at 16/18 ram multi without a second stick in the second channel

ill give an update when i fully test these g die sticks, for now ive only got 3000 to post

As for that cpu mobo and ram you just set cpu multi to 43 or whatevers max multi and keep raising bclk till it stops posting, usually you know when youve hit a bclk wall when it doesnt try to post and the postcode on the board displays 00, you simply back it off by .2-.5 bclk or however much you need to back off on bclk till p95 largeffts/smallestffts stable

For the rams send a thaiphoon burner screenshot or if theyre bare pcb no heatspreader send a pic of the black squares (ics) with the text visible alongside a pic of the ram sticker with the ram specs and model number, also details for config (4x4 or 2x8) ill probs be able to come up with something but i doubt itll hit 3000 or atleast be stable at 3000, asus ram oc on their 60 boards is pretty shit topping out at a mere 2200 except for the gene but idk if the 2800 hwbot sub for it is a hardwall or not, i mean the highest ram freq sub for the x58a ud3r is only 2750 with a 980x and i blew right past that with a nehalem on air

You have made me want to mess with some oc on my systems

    Why?

Pretty pointless upgrading the psu if you dont have to

    neat

a non k 3770 seems kinda odd though you can simply just raise the multiplier by 4 since theres limited unlock where you can raise multi by 4 on sandy and ivy then add abit of bclk ontop, usually 105 is acheivable but you may have a good cpu thats capable of >108 on air

Imo if you build on an old platform like that youd probs wanna fully max it out with some absolutely ridicolous overclocks

    IMG_20230911_224556.thumb.jpg.f9b238e9dea360098f389a577913d9d3.jpgIMG_20230911_225609.thumb.jpg.ff42c9c0abe93ec3ad57c3d6ba5d6a44.jpgIMG_20230911_223324.thumb.jpg.484dd7e94f5657e7beeda12300fe4662.jpg

when i started getting into pcs around 2018 for whatever reason my dream system was x58, maybe its something to do with being able to run pretty good ocs on it or just the charm of an old system being a ryzen killer

2022 finally got my first taste of 1366 with a p6t deluxe v2 and x5660, sold as broken got for 20$ but turns out the main pcie x16 slot was dirty hence no display, can tell that it posted simply because i have a pci debug card that displays postcodes, obligatory boot into bios at 5ghz within 2 hours of getting the thing =p, dissapointed with the xeon though because 3rd core is a flaming pile of garbage and the imc is complete dogshit (doesnt run over 2200 ddr3) so after awhile just got bored of it and when i had the chance to sell it off i sold it off for 24$ + a crappy msi h55 and x3440

After getting a broken x58a ud3r that needs its bios resoldered (which i havent done yet still) alongside a dud p6x58d-e that wont bclk properly i recently got this x58a ud3r for 25$ (x58 depreciated a ton since 2022) and just for shits and giggles and cause im too lazy to take that x5650 out of the p6x58de decided to put an i7 950 for testing, i figured that i probs couldnt get it to run >2000 ddr3 cause of that 1:2 memclk uncore bullshit but apparently thats just something asus boards force, giga ignores that rule and welp i can clock rams, i wasnt expecting much more than 2600 but boy it hit 2900 before hardwalling

put in a spare i7 930 to test see if its amobo or cpu hardwall turns out it was a cpu hardwall and i managed to boot 3000 in windows and rarely post 3200 in bios, my crappy green pcb transcend 1gb 1333 psc based sticks have topped out and it seems like this imc is capable of quite abit over 3200 ddr3 so ive got some samsung m378b2873gb0 1gb g die as ive heard that theyre good for stupid high freq so now im aiming for even higher freqs, maybe 3400-3600 post in windows, so far got 3000 to post but need to do more testing once i get home, for whatever reason doesnt post with 16 or 18 ram multi without a dummy stick in the 2nd channel (just put my crappiest transcend psc on there that doesnt even do 2700 ddr3)

That is awesome, I do want to mess with that platform as well,  I would love to get an Evga x58 ftw3.

as for the oc, I have never done one but I do want to learn and mess with that, both the cpu and gpu, the non k was just included with mobo but if my local shop gets a k I will snag it (he sells em for $20)

I absolutely love seeing people still using, pushing, and enjoying this older hardware today. For me it is far more interesting and fun to mess with than new stuff, my Ryzen system is great but I don’t love it, I don’t want to keep messing with it like I do with these.

Yeah, don't go SLI route. It's dead af. Also x79 will be hella slow in modern games due to lower IPC count. Or, shall I say, not much faster than 3770. Don't waste your money, go for Ryzen 2nd gen and 3060 (it's close to 2080 while may cost the same or even less).

The fun of it is messing with these old systems, I do not wish to build another Ryzen system as I have one. (5800x/6700xt)

Oh so you're not looking for upgrade advice

No problem. You're relatively new so one of the mods should move it shortly

Yeah mainly just having fun messing with hardware lol, love the 1155 and 2011 platforms,  I have 3 total as of now

what's your budget for the whole upgrade (not including the case cost since you've already ordered it)

No real budget just picking away at it, finding whatever catches my interest. Once it’s done I’d like to be all ssd storage, 4tb at least, maybe x79, two 1080s or a 2080, for fun this system itself is more of a hobby than using it honestly.

  10. when I first got into pcs z68 was new, at the time I was young and couldn’t afford to play with it, so here I am now building and modding this system.

    The build so far;

    -Maximus IV gene-z/gen3 Z68

    -i7 3770

    -EVGA 1080

    -16gb patriot ram

    -250gb crucial ssd

    -2tb wd black

    -Noctua NH-L12S

    -EVGA 650W psu

    -currently in a Lenovo case

I do plan to make some changes.

    -Fractal meshify C mini

    -EVGA 1000W

    -storage may change

    -may swap to x79 eventually

pc is running very well, and handling starfield low at 1080.

will continue to update this as it progresses, not a lot of people interested in Z68/Z77 anymore

As far as Cable modems go. The first thing to do is determine if your ISP has a list of approved modems that they know will work. Secondly Cable Modems use Channel bonding. Thats how they get faster speeds. For example my cable modem has 8 down stream channels and 4 upstream channels or its known as an 8x4 modem. The more channels you have the faster the speeds. Only Docsis 3.1 modems will do Gigabit in most cases, so if you have a Gigabit connection you need a Docsis 3.1 modem. The next thing is most cable operators use Gateways and not standard modems. Gateways have a modem and router built in, Gateways are hot garbage and should be avoided. Always choose a separate modem from router.

Bluetooth is a low range low power wireless standard. I would imagine if the wood is thick/dense enough that it could block the signal. Keep in mind as well that Bluetooth works on 2.4 Ghz which is also used by WiFi. So the two can conflict with each other.

Super helpful reply thank you, the modem I was looking at did have a router built in I’ll get ones that are separate then I’ll be able to get the router I wanted originally

  12. Am fairly new to this, always lived with my parents who had fiber, I now have a cable modem from my isp, I been considering a netgear nighthawk DOCSIS any input on those? Also possible for the wood to be interfering with Bluetooth? Wireless keyboard and Xbox controllers seem to be struggling unless they are close to the system

  13. Anyone have a core 2 build still? Have some parts to start on one, I want to do a retro-mod style build, rgb fans and cooler, new case but an force board core 2 quad and 3x gtx 285s. Not for anything specific just for fun and to play some older titles like fallout 3 and far cry 2

  14. First new build since my 3770k, happy to be back into it, was looking to get a 3080ti but couldn’t find one. Here’s the build so far I’ll be updating it as I evolve my whole setup.

    gaming on a Samsung 86” class 8

    Corsair 4000D

Strix B550F- gaming (chosen mostly for its looks)

    Ryzen 7 5800x

16gb Corsair vengeance (adding 16 more)

    Sapphire 6700XT nitro+ (placeholder for when I get a 3080ti ftw3)

500gb Samsung m.2 drive (forgot the model)

Be quiet pure rock 2 (temp cooler)

    corsair rm750

    cablemod pro series cables

these are coming not yet in:

1tb Samsung m.2 of the same model

    2x 16tb seagates

2x 1tb sata ssd (unsure what ones yet)

    3080ti ftw3

    swapping the 750 for a 1000

    Most likely an ekwb aio

will add pictures of the tv setup shortly

Hahaha, no I don't have the cover plate. I left it to the guy I built it for if he wanted to get that aswell. This is how I solved it for me ^^

Interesting Idea, this case without RGB, my latest built was a 0 RGB BeQuiet built, completely in black as well. Looks pretty sweet too. But I usually only publish the builds when I'm done with the Video on it :)

ill be posting my build log soon mobo and cooler are here just to make sure itll work :) looks like its going to i ordered a cover just to find out after it shipped that they come with them now lol guessi have two! nicely done on this build!
