  1. friend is looking to buy a new laptop budget is $1000 CDN including taxes / shipping looking to play starcraft 2 any recommendations? post links * * * * UPDATE * * * * * doesnt have to be a "Gaming Laptop" just a laptop with a decent gpu
  2. hey man i finalized my build to these parts. any comments? im still a bit unsure about having a HDD for storage. im working on converting a lot of paperwork into digital files for my boss and figure it would be nice to have larger capacity storage With that said i suppose i should just wait until i truly need that space in hopes that HDD prices will go down even further. Also i have a 2x2gb kit with me thats rated for 1866mhz so ill be throwing that in here
  3. - do need a copy of windows. but i can probably scavange a free copy somewhere - already have peripherals, just need to replace the PC - I considered APU but ive seen a lot of productivity benchmarks where the core i3 comes ahead of even the new FX quadcores. ive never worked with APUs so thats why im a little afraid of the performance results. kind of sticking to what i know. but if you guys can put it into budget and/or save me a few bucks i will gladly consider the alternatives
  4. budget is $500-$700 CDN with taxes included small home based business needs to run a few accounting applications current pc is dying was thinking core i3 and any microATX mobo, already have 2x2gb ram no need for video card if there is room for it in the budget i would also prefer a raid1 setup. HDD doesnt need to be big. currently using an ancient 80gb hdd with winXP can someone else help me fill out the rest This new PC will probably be on 24x7 needs a reliable HDD and in a microATX form factor thanks
  5. The mouse spinning as in it stuck turning my player right . so my player keep spinning and i cant walk in a straight line or even aim down my sights. and i saw this post a few hours too late =[ ended up re installing from scratch... AND IT STILL KEEPS SPINNING !!?@?#!?#!
  6. My system is all AMD and no Aimbots lol *sigh* i was hoping that would be the last final attempt BF3 is a 34GB game with all the DLCs :( I can save about 8GB since i have it on DVD.... but here goes nothing....
  7. yup re installed the drivers....still same problem
  8. my G9x gaming software? Software Version 8.46 Firmware Version 76.1 So...yes? As a matter of fact i'll reinstall the software just for the sake of trouble shooting
  9. Since about 3 weeks ago this problem showed up I launch a game/join a server move around a bit. and my mouse just constantly starts spinning.... the only way to make it stop is to launch the in-game chat or Console OR stay in a vehicle the whole game I only have 3 USB devices on my computer. 1. Logitech G9x Mouse 2. Generic Logitech Keyboard 3. my asus wifi dongle at first i thought maybe there was some crap on the actual laser on my mouse. but the mouse works fine in all my other games and apps. ONLY In bf3 does it act up ive tried to replug everything restart a whole bunch of times and i just cant figure out what it is. Ive looked around on the internet and most people have some issue because of the controller they had plugged in. but i dont have anything else SO WHATS THE DEAL !?@#
  10. Is there any way I can enable my 5870 to work with the Mercury Playback Engine ? (gpu acceleration) (other pc specs listed below)
  11. I understand you need a Quadro card for your work applications Would you happen to know if current high end Geforce cards can also help you out? in terms of CUDA and OpenCL (im thinking GTX 570 and higher) I know most Adobe application support GPU acceleration Only bringing this up in case you want to save some bucks and also since your quadro wont help you in terms of playing games
  12. thanks folks. Yeah if i could afford it i would definitely purchase an ssd however i need a higher capacity drive because i actually am going to be working with large files I shoot in (18MP) RAW and usually end up storing the files on my laptop for a while before i get around to edting also the SSHD is only about 90 bucks for 500gb
  13. My Current laptop has been working great for about 4 years now. only real thing that is slow is the 5400rpm Sata2 500gb HDD Specs: (Core 2 Duo T6600, 4GB ram, Geforce G210m) I use this laptop for Office 2010, Lightroom 3,3, and a few Steam games like TF2 and L4D2 I have had my eye on the Seagate 500gb HSSD however i am not able to find any benchmarks for Sata2 HDD vs. Seagate HSSD and if the sata 2 interface is going to bottleneck the performance for this new drive
  14. exactly what im trying to tell these people This person is clearly not an audiophile and he doesnt need to spend that much money for a good set of speakers that will last him a long time but people quoted me and chose to ignore that part "5 years ago and are still solid" people please, if you want to give good consumer advice stop making people spend so much money when they dontt need to.
  15. youre clearly new to 2.1 so you dont need to spend more than $120-ish I spent $30 on my Logitech X-230 5 years ago and they have been solid unfortunately they dont make anything that great for that price anymore. so thats why i say $120 max since you have a higher budget As a finance graduate i highly recommend you use the savings and invest in your future (LOL seriously though)
  16. Canon T2i Only have the kit lens and 50mm 1.8 to go with it but i always manage to get the job done I've dont astro-timelapses with thes kit lens and it came out awesome For weddings and other paid gigs/events i usually rent cameras and lenses from vistek
  17. I would take the minimum for part-time I would gladly shoot some b-roll footage as well as some product stills Simple setup with simple editing
  18. I agree with this choice of SSD as well Also, Spend about $20 more for a better air cooler for your cpu
  19. Samsung 840 SSD is more than fine.... If you are an SSD virgin like myself it will be light-years ahead of anything youve ever used before Also, considering its a boot drive there's no real reason to be turned away from "slower" write speeds It is priced very well and is good value
  20. VLC is a media player.... As mentioned earlier.... Its like saying "WE ARE GOING TO BAN SAMSUNG FROM MAKING MONITORS, THAT WILL STOP PEOPLE FROM WATCHING TORRENTED MATERIAL ON THERE" lol just silly
  21. could be a fan or HDD that hasnt been tightened down properly? Again i suggest opening up the pc and sticking your head in there to figure out which part it is, that would be my scientific way of figuring it out lol
