Sun lit hardware looks sexy

Now to repaste with conductonaut and reseal

i actually kinda wonder what the difference would be between a repaste and running without the IHS and just direct mount the cooler.

@manikyath Highly depends on the cooler from my experience. Its also a massive pain to mount.

@iamdarkyoshi lets say you're a noctual D9L guy, going for quietness, would getting rid of the lid make things enough more efficient to click down the fan a few steps as well.

also, i'd dare to mount using kapton tape layered to the height of the die, to act as a spacer.

Yeah the spacer is totally needed. I had identical performance with direct die VS repasted on an i5 750 using a noctua cooler with a 4500mhz OC.

  5. manikyath

    manikyath

so identical performance with and without lid...

makes me wonder why some idiots grind down the lid on their soldered processors... (yes, that's a thing..)

  6. iamdarkyoshi

    iamdarkyoshi

    Yeah lapping helps

The reason I got identical performance was likely because the die's heat was only really under like half the heatpipes, with no heatspreaded

IIRC liquid coolers do much better with direct die

    manikyath

well.. there's the lid block linus reviewed, ofcourse... if you wanna go stupid..

    lol

    Stupid is good
