Rye Cribby Tree's Achievements

  1. It is a tie between the power supply and the cooler. They are both sick!
  2. Tonight I went to class like any other night and about an hour into the class our professor started showing videos on what we would cover. One of the videos he pulled up was a Tech Quickie video on codecs. So for the first time in my college career I was able to talk to everyone about how great Linus is without seeming creepy. Have any of you had any experience like this in school? For anyone interested the class is Fundamentals of Communications and Networking.
  3. MX100 all day every day, I bought one a month or two back and I LOVE it.
  4. Why must Linus mess with what I believe? He just keeps saying it is real leather. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORE!
  5. The drive was also really full, I had about 200GB free after maybe 20 minutes of running the utilization would go down and spike randomly though. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if it starts acting up again but for now the SSD has solved the problem.
  6. My SSD came in today and here are some bechmarks from HD tune. I think the issue was because of the IDE setting.
  7. I think I may have figured out what my problem was. My mobo was set to IDE, not AHCI. I ordered an SSD and when it gets here I will reformat this drive and run some benchmarks to see if that was in fact the issue.
  8. I think I figured it out, my mobo was set to IDE instead of AHCI but I did make a thread on this in case you'd like to take a look at what problem I was having. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/217104-crazy-harddrive/
  9. Is it better than some newer options at a similar price point? Seeing as it's a 2 year old drive.
  10. I'm buying my first SSD soon, I will mainly be using it as a boot drive with a WD black as mass storage. I know the budget kingston drives use cheap asynchronous nand and are slow so what other drive should I buy? I was looking at this PNY SSD but honestly I don't know if I should get it or a sandisk SSD. http://www.amazon.com/PNY-120GB-6Gbps-2-5-Inch-SSD9SC120GMDF-RB/dp/B007WT9SU0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411277008&sr=8-1&keywords=pny+ssd
  11. Any suggestions on an SSD in the $70-$100 price range?
  12. I ran the error scan on HD tune and it didn't have any errors.
  13. Alright, so the general consensus is an SSD boot drive now comes the question of how much storage do I realistically need for something that will only have my OS and one or two programs on it. I found a 240 gig in my price range but it's a pny SSD.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178720&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= Should I get a better ssd at a lower capacity?
  14. My WD black has been giving me some problems with slow access speeds and weird drive utilization so I'm in the market for a new storage solution. Now with this in mind I can see going one of two ways, buying an SSHD to migrate my OS to from the slow drive and using both as storage for my steam library; Or I could get an SSD to put my OS on and keep my games or other less frequently used programs on my hard drive. I've picked out an SSHD http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Desktop-Solid-Hybrid-ST1000DX001/dp/B00EIQTOFY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1411157673&sr=8-2&keywords=seagate+sshd but I'd like to know what you guys think about just using an SSD boot drive.
