  1. If you have a 2nd device available that has a gigabit ethernet port, you can try seeing if that device has the same issue. If the issue is still present, it is most likely an issue with the network. If the issue goes away, it is most likely an issue related to the device itself. Just a way of isolating variables.
  2. It is a bit warm, but I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I use the stock cooler on mine and it idles around 50c. I personally never had any issues with my setup.
  3. Sometimes I am just too darn lazy to remove the plastic. But usually it doesn't matter. Like other have said, it can make things look ugly.
  4. I would assume that someone wouldn't put the box in a highly visible area of the house. I would also hope that it would take more than sixty seconds for someone to find it. There is probably some backend stuff too with the system as well for disconnections and stuff. I thought that ADT still uses a landline
  5. I was thinking that earlier. I think that using an actual router would probably still be best.
  6. +1 Ive used so much enterprise hardware that I sometimes struggle to figure out how to use some consumer network devices. If only I do a sh ru on consumer hardware.
  7. Definitely worth contacting your ISP. Or at least reporting to them that the speed of your internet service is sub-optimal.
  8. It might actually be better to get a network+ since they are not primarily using Cisco hardware.
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in LTT gets a CCNA or a comptia cert at somepoint.
  10. @mynameisjuan Thanks for the explanation. I really only have experience using Cisco hardware when creating and configuring "large" networks with multiple routers and switches. I have used pfSense as a router/firewall, but I haven't used it to create networks that use VLANs or other routing protocols (like OSPF or VRRP as an example).
  11. I have personally seen worse. This seems pretty mild. Interesting. That seems like some pretty extreme system requirements. Do you have any sort of sources for where I can read more about this.
  12. Not elitist. It was cringy when they didn't understand some of the network fundamentals. In this situation I would have probably used a router with some modules. It probably would have been a good idea for them to contract out the work.
  13. I plan on getting the i7 variant. It will probably see most of its use running vmware products, illustrator and microsoft office. I don't think I will be doing much editing on it.
  14. I don't think it can run any hotter than my 2011 15" MBP? The base model 15" looks nice. Not sure if its worth getting a larger ssd with it though.
