How has programming and software development changed over time?

Dobbsjr

This is just out of curiosity, but how has it change? I know C was like this huge milestone in programming and that the introduction of OOP and Java with its bytecode was also a big milestone, but are there any other events that the average programmer should know about or any other huge paradigm shifts besides OOP?

nothing as great as that really AFAIK. asides from new languages and a really easy to use python.

but the Page Rank Equation is  revolutionary it's not a change in programming but with this simple equation google made the internet easier and better to browse and search for content.

I think that is in a way revolutionary in the software side of things

This talk has a pretty interesting view on it.

Basically he talks about how tons of ways of programming were invented in the 60's, but we're somehow still stuck with languages like C and C++.
