motherboard and RAM

Hi i was watching one of linus tech tips build guides when i noticed that he used 2133mhz memory on a asus sabertooth mark 1. and when i looked at the specs of the board is said it could only take up too 1866 mhz, can you put more than the recomended amount of ram om a board or does this board take more than just 1866mhz ram?

Thank you!

some boards may support OCing

otherwise your RAM will just run at the max supported speeds

The speed on the RAM stick is the just a rating for the highest speed it will run at. The speed of RAM is controlled in BIOS, which means if you use RAM with a higher rated clock than the motherboard can support it will only work at the lower clock speed the motherboard allows.

Hopefully it is the ram that makes and in sabertooth enabling XMP activates the default overclock.
