That's the price I paid for my 1TB Evo.  It's in my MacBook Pro and kicking ass.  I suggest working one of those into your budget.  :D

Won't the CPU bottleneck the GPU?

Depends on the game. i3s have better single core performance than the AMD X4 860K.

It might clear the top of the drive cage. I would get an N200, its better for gaming.

Some things will go down in price, others won't. Look for G3258/motherboard combos for under 80 dollars, 500W+ modular power supply for under 50 dollars, 8gb of ram for less than 60 dollars, and an R9-280 for about 160-180 dollars.

A CX430 can't run a 280 unless you're gonna be using PCI-e adapters and even though I completely forgot about the clearance lol, using the case you suggested over mine is just $5 more, that can work and fit in the budget and still have the strongest GPU for him recommended here. I wouldn't recommend the Pentiums anymore though, no matter how much it overclocks, 4 threads are better than 2 and games for some odd reason games are now trying to make the leap in not even starting up on 2 threaded CPUs

Hey just wondering but the GPU clearance for the case says 9.06 inches. The GPU you put on the list is 11 inches.

Here you go regarding the clearance, what you would do to make it work is the mount the HDD at a lower point from where the GPU will be for the clearance

Its an interesting sacrifice. Sacrificing RAM to get higher than the 280X. While I personally prolly wudnt do that, I can't ignore the 30% performance jump of the 290. Well done

PcPartPicker Notes: Some Intel H81 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

I would prefer not having to do a BIOS update. Your thoughts on this Note from PCpartPicker?

Haha I really like how you managed to squeeze in a R9 290 for only $500 dollars. Unfortunately, this computer is going to need 8 GB's of RAM. I forgot what I was doing. But one time Windows 8.1 actually forcibly shut down a program I was about to open up saying I didn't have enough RAM for it. Which I found really weird.

This is an interesting phenomenon that I didn't know existed on the Haswell chips. The only way then we can assess if you will avoid a BIOS update is to check this motherboard with its default BIOS what CPUs is it compatible with. As soon as I find out I'll let you know

That is the CPU compatibility list but unfortunately, if the motherboard does not come with an updated BIOS of version 1.4 and above, the i3 4150 will require a BIOS update. Easiest fix is to change to a different motherboard, pricier fix is to change the CPU to like a i3 4130 which I have no clue if its on sale right now

I like how you managed to fit in an SSD,but unfortunately it's not as essential as a better GPU which will be used for gaming.

This is an old plan I had laying around, so take out the OS and just up the GPU..

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!
