Nub question

TheEpicMap

Is there any way to increase internet speed by getting a better ethernet cord?

or by getting a network adapter( http://www.ncix.com/detail/tp-link-tg-3468-10-100-1000mbps-gigabit-pcie-7a-41779.htm )?

Testmy.net  says i and 2 mbps down and 87 kbps up, but i know i have more than that.

Could my hardware be slowing it down?

Sorry for the extreme noob question.

Your limit is based on what you pay for. Call your ISP or check your bill to find out what you should be getting

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

Simply, no, unless you have a defective cable. However at that speed I doubt it is. As the last person said, verify what you pay for. Then if you are slower bypass all of ypur network devices and plug directly into the modem. If you your speeds goes up router. If the speed is still lower then call your ISP. These are very vague steps but can get you to a resolution.
