How to add two hexadecimal numbers?

FE+05 = 0103

But how?

I know in binary it's 1111 1110 + 0000 0101 = 0000 0011?

I am having a major brain fart, I learned this like 3 years ago and can't remember.

FE = 15x(16) + 14x(1)

05 = 0x(16) + 5x(1)

 

Add five 1's to FE.

 

FE + 1 = FF

+1 = 100

+1 = 101

+1 = 102

+1 = 103

If you forget you could always convert them to decimal, add, then back to hexadecimal.

 

If not, it's just like adding decimal numbers but instead of 'carrying a one' when you get to 10, you do it when you get to 16.
